On December 11th, 2017, Lori Meyers passed away from cancer. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to her family, students and colleagues during this difficult time. The following text comes from her nomination, which was submitted in November 2017.
Lori Meyers was nominated by a colleague who wishes to remain anonymous.
Ms. Meyers is the epitome of strength in the face of adversity. As a secretary, she greets staff, students, visitors, and families with a smile. People can tell the culture of the building within the first five minutes of them entering the school, because Ms. Meyers and her co-secretary ensure that everyone's needs are met.
Her smile is even more inspiring because she is a breast cancer survivor. Despite the chemotherapy, needles and treatments, she goes to work every day and never complains. She was recognized by her entire school in October 2017 during “I'm A Survivor" day. She was surprised by her fiancé, mother, daughter, and her sister circle of friends.
"Ms. Meyers is a hero who inspires us all to keep believing, keep hoping, and keep pressing to live our best life," the nominator said.
Lori was a true angel. She would come to her office visits and never complained. Lori brought a smile to everyone including myself. Lori taught me a lot of things. I would complain a lot, but once I’ve met her, I’ve looked at my life differently. Here’s a beautiful woman that’s fighting for her life and here I am, complaining about something irrelevant. I will always love Lori from the bottom of my heart. I will never forget her. Rest easy beautiful angel.
Lori was the epidome of a lady. Effervescent, courageous, congenial. She was an all round beautiful person, inside and out. I am confident that her children will shine as bright as she did and gone to share her heart. Our lives are made better because we’ve had a relationship with such a jewel. See you again some day friend.

Although, I never got to know you personally, I always heard nothing but wonderful things about Lori. How loving and fair she was. A pleasant angel of a person. Hers the only regret I have is not actually knowing you as a friend!
Lori was a one of a kind precious gem. Her strength, her faith in God, and her courage was unmeasureable. She inspired others that no matter what you are going through, just smile. Lori will truly be missed, especially her beautiful smile and kind words. Never a harsh word for anyone, just a one of a kind beautiful smile.
Lori was the one of the sweetest people I knew. I met a few years ago at the hair salon and we connected right off the back, I was so inspired by her my church honored Breast cancer survivor one year and she was one the ladies I chose. Lori you will truly be missed and not that she will even see this but others will read and I hope they can be inspired by the kind words. She always had a smile no matter what...
I feel fortunate to have known and worked with Lori during the time she worked at Joyce Kilmer Middle school.
Somehow, in a corner of my head, I am still hoping that this isn’t true. Losing Lori has created a void that could be never filled by another. She was like family to us all and was always there to help anyone who needed her. Let us all stay strong for her, her fiance and her family. Let’s never forget Lori and be comforted by the awesome memories of her.
Love always.
