Music that Describes Doug

Doug Strong was nominated by a colleague, Ed Dunkelblau.

Dr. Strong has served the special education population of District 225 for over 25 years, first as a teacher and then as Director of the Off-Campus Special Education school. While under his direction, the Off-Campus program has earned a stellar reputation for academic excellence and support for the district's most challenging students. Dr. Strong has advocated rigor, innovation, and expertise in programming for academic success, and he has pioneered programming to meet his students' social and emotional needs. He gives his time and knowledge selflessly, often working with staff and students far beyond the hours of the typical school day.

"I have personally been both impressed and moved by his vigilant attention to the well-being of his staff and their students," said Dunkelblau. "He is sensitive to their unique needs and encourages state-of-the-art programming for all who attend. His caring, concern, and commitment certainly deserve to be recognized. He has been a LifeChanger for hundreds of students who have come to his programming."

Doug has been a compassionate, empathic leader who always listens patiently and kindly to students and staff. He has helped reach some of the tougher students and has allowed students to spend hours in his office when they have been struggling. He has helped out many alumni who have come back to get assistance, even when it is no longer his job to assist them. He demonstrates patience and fairness with all, even in those toughest of situations. He has dedicated his career to helping support the toughest kids in the district. He has navigated GBOC as a leader, even during the toughest of situations. Well-deserved nomination.
