Jack Altermatt was nominated by his friend, Phil Lewis.

"It is with great honor that I nominate Mr. Altermatt as a LifeChanger," said Lewis. "Mr. Altermatt is a gifted teacher and coach, but his greatest gift is his heart for his students. While teaching at Sarcoxie, Mr. Altermatt was a dynamic Special Education teacher and a Coach. He would encourage his Special Education students to be active and join a sport."

Mr. Altermatt was the Golf Coach and would find a set of clubs for his kids. He would teach them the fundamentals of golf as well as golf etiquette. When the students accomplished a goal, Mr. Altermatt would take them to eat barbeque. Food was especially popular with kids. The students had fun, gained confidence, and learned a lifelong activity.

Mr. Altermatt was also an Assistant Football coach for Sarcoxie. In the same way as golf, Mr. Altermatt encouraged his kids to try football. Once again, Mr. Altermatt had a vision that his students could be successful in ways they had no idea they could achieve with hard work and an opportunity. Mr. Altermatt knew that being a part of a team and developing successful habits would be powerful for his kids. Often these athletes would play JV, but that was like the Superbowl to them and Mr. Altermatt.

Finally, Mr. Altermatt is also a gifted musician. Mr. Altermatt would volunteer his time working with drummers in the band and share with them his love for percussion. He would set up lessons and teach kids everything about playing the drums.

"Mr. Altermatt, his lovely wife Amanda, and their son Miller have moved to Southeast Missouri, and we miss them," said Lewis. "But one thing I know for sure, Mr. Altermiatt is changing lives in Chaffee."
