Music that Describes Jamesha

Jamesha Shelton was nominated by her colleague, Dinah Myrick.

"I am honored to nominate Ms. Jamesha Shelton as a Life Changer of the Year candidate," said Myrick.

Mrs. Shelton joined the Center Elementary team during the 21-22 school year. Of course, during this time, we were still in the trenches of a worldwide pandemic, resulting in teacher shortages, absences, and notable achievement gaps among students. As a special education professional with valuable training and certification in mental health, Mrs. Shelton was precisely what was needed to radiate glimmers of sunshine upon her students and colleagues.

Mrs. Shelton allows her actions to speak for her competency. When she sees a need, regardless of the area, she takes the initiative and offers her unwavering support. Students throughout the building view her as an ally, as she consistently advocates for the families on her caseload and among the student population.

"I specifically have had the pleasure of working with her in a grade-level environment in our summer school and after-school enrichment programs," said Myrick. "I could not have done it without her grade-level expertise and guidance. She offered innovative ideas and strategies to help me teach a grade and subject area that was foreign to me and do so successfully. She exemplifies the perfect medley of structure and flexibility that results in a masterpiece of excellence."

We all know being a distinguished educator requires dedication and can be very taxing. However, Mrs. Shelton does not become weary. She continues to carry the torch in her community, serving as an active graduate member of Zeta Phi Beta, Inc. and as an active member on her praise team at her church, Family Worship Center (Waycross, GA). Additionally, she is a devoted mother to a 2-year-old daughter and a ten-year-old son.

"I am confident that LifeChangers exist pervasively throughout every school and district in America. Yet, when we all get caught up in the ties of day-to-day responsibilities and obligations, we often forget to take a moment to recognize those who are consistently going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure success for the greater good," said Myrick. "Therefore, the dynamic and selfless servant leadership Ms. Shelton demonstrates should be noticed by others. It's my pleasure to seize this opportunity to highlight her integrity, expertise, and pleasant nature."
