Music that Describes Brandon

Brandon Warren's nominator would like to remain anonymous.

Mr. Warren is a five-star educator who gives one hundred percent to his students, school, and community. He is more than just an outstanding teacher. Mr. Warren is an ambassador for change, a researcher, a leader, and a great colleague and friend. He integrates high-quality content into daily lessons giving his students a decided advantage for the future. His attention to vocabulary development and foundational reading skills prepare students for the complex texts they encounter in the higher elementary grades. Although he teaches first grade, the students study a wide range of topics, from Egyptian mummies to the workings of the human body. Their vocabulary knowledge at the end of first grade includes words like sarcophagus and digestive system.

"Regardless of their challenges, these students are exposed to rigorous content. We have been fortunate to watch students respond in an overwhelmingly positive way," said the nominator.

Mr. Warren is skilled in teaching foundational reading skills. He works with students tirelessly on decoding, blending, and word recognition. He also tries to pinpoint the difficulty a student may have and uses the school's Response to Intervention program to place the appropriate interventions in place. A student's success in reading is important to Mr. Warren, as it is one of the most influential skills a student can have. His goal is to have 95% of his students reading by the end of each year. He views teaching reading as a means to help produce literate members of society and break generational cycles of poverty that can come with a lack of education. Mr. Warren has found his passion and his gift as a teacher.

Mr. Warren is eager and willing to share his knowledge with his colleagues. His principal regularly calls on him to lead professional development meetings. Mr. Warren works tirelessly to create the perfect presentation that not only gets educators to self-reflect, but provides them with realistic ways to put new information into practice inside the classroom. Mr. Warren doesn't stop there, though. He works with struggling students after school through the Gator All-Star Academy program. In his work with these students, he expands the students' knowledge of scientific concepts and science vocabulary. This content acceleration has countless researched advantages for the students included in this outreach. Students can take the skills they acquire in the afternoon program back into the classroom, which helps them succeed in reaching new academic heights! Outside of school, Mr. Warren volunteers for his community with CASA as a court-appointed special advocate for children in the foster care system. This organization advocates for the well-being of abused or neglected children to ensure they have the safe and loving home environment they deserve.

It is easy to see that Mr. Warren is an exemplary educator. He is dedicated to perfecting his teaching and constantly studies the research to ensure he uses the most effective practices to move students toward academic success. His dedication to teaching is matched by his dedication to his family. A father of five and a loving husband to his wife, Jenna, he balances his family's needs with the needs of his classroom and school. He is reflective and always eager to improve and grow as an educator.

"As you can see, he is a LifeChanger already, and he is a positive influence on all of us lucky enough to know him," said the nominator. "It is truly an honor to nominate Mr. Warren for this achievement, and I could not think of anyone more deserving of the title, 'LifeChanger.'"

Mr. Warren is a terrific educator & even more than that a great person and coworker! He’s the type of teacher that supports his students, while also supporting his fellow team members. He always has a smile on his face and is ready to take on a new day! I’ll never forget how much he helped me with my biggest assignment while finishing my education degree. He was a wealth of information and made me feel at ease about it!

My youngest son Liam was in his class 2 years ago, he was his first "real teacher" after returning back to live learning vs virtual. Can I please say how dearly loved Mr. Warren is. He is still Liams "favorite teacher". When Liam would finish his class work early he would give him work that was a little more advanced to keep him occupied, and in the words of Liam "he actually made learning fun". Thank you Mr. Warren for being someone who my child will cherish all his school days into adulthood. There is always that one teacher who will always stand out in a child's mind and heart and you sir are that teacher.

BJ Warren is definitely a life changer! He is such a positive person, always encouraging those around him. I have never seen him in a bad mood, although I'm sure it happens, but he is intentional about bringing his best self to every interaction. His students love him! They know he cares about each one of them, and they know they are safe when they are in his care. My son is a student of his currently, and he loves school and often asks if he can stay after school for a bit just to hang out with Mr. Warren a little bit longer. He has a heart of gold, volunteering with causes in our community. I think his heart is happiest when he's helping children, but he makes the whole world a much brighter place.

I am always excited when I hear that Mr. Warren is conducting a training session. He always offers refreshing and practical ideas and strategies to use in the classroom and adaptive ways to use across all grade levels. He is a realist and understands how to specifically meet the needs of students across all socioeconomic statuses and demographics. I have had the pleasure of working with him in a co-teaching environment, and his classroom offers each child a warm and inviting atmosphere, with ongoing opportunities for success and encouragement. Mr. Warren is a team player, not only among his grade level, but on any committee or group task he is a part of. he is truly an asset to center Elementary and ware County School District.

Mr. Warren is a leader among his colleagues at Center Elementary. He is in a continual state of learning and seeking to acquire more knowledge about the Science of Reading and teaching strategies that will help his first-grade students learn to read! He knows the importance of the five pillars of reading and has made it his mission to integrate all of his research about effective teaching strategies and core knowledge into his daily schedule! He not only puts all that he is learning into practice, but he leads our teachers at Center Elementary in professional learning to support our school's literacy goal. To say it simpler, he makes learning fun for his students, and many times, they just think they are having fun (not learning and working)!

B.J -“ Mr. Warren” - As your Mom, I am so proud of you and the achievements you have accomplished!! Your spirit has always shown bright as a gift from God and so special. You are the child, who even when no longer needing daycare would beg me to call “Mrs Sherry “ to see if you could “go see the babies”, which meant you wanted to help care for them. Your connection to children has always been obvious !!! Love you ,proud of you , and all the things you have over come and accomplished. I love you Mom

BJ (Brandon) is much deserving of this award!!!

Clista Williams Posted over a year ago

BJ is one of those educators that truly makes a monumental difference in the lives of the children he teaches. He doesn’t bombard the students with nonsense “busy” work and he uses so many strategies to help his students reach the standards. Briggs knew 75 site words prior to starting first grade. He had a terrible kindergarten year and missed lots of learning time during the onset of the pandemic. In addition to the challenges all students faced, Briggs also had some eye problems and possible slight Dyslexia. Bj has bridged the gap for my son and made such an impact on his life. I’m not sure of what his oral reading fluency is now or how many site words he knows to date, but I can tell you that my baby can sound out unknown words and is reading! He’s reading everywhere we go. Bj some how finds a way to read with Briggs daily, even with 20 other kids. He treats Briggs like one of his own and his impact will be life long. Additionally, he’s patient beyond words and is always available to the parents. It sometimes makes me emotional because to think about the role he’s played in the life of my child. When I asked Briggs his favorite thing about BJ he said: I just love him and he protects me when I’m scared. ??
