Jill Bull was nominated by her colleague, Sandy Austin.
Ms. Bull personifies all that the LifeChanger of the Year Award represents! She goes above and beyond as a school counselor at Cimarron Middle School in Parker, CO through her ability to lead and empower others to be a part of the answer for meeting the needs of her students, families, staff, and community. For 33 years – nine years as a teacher and 24 years as a school counselor – Ms. Bull has left an indelible mark on her students, schools, and communities.
Ms. Bull is an extraordinary leader, which is evidenced by her district asking her to be on the team to open four schools and stay at each one to establish a solid foundation for success for those schools and communities. She has been the Summer School Coordinator, which means having the duties of "Principal" for summer school. She has also had many leadership positions in her school and district – including testing, 504s, crisis response, grading, and standards.
Ms. Bull also served on the Colorado School Counselor Association's Board of Directors. In her 33 years, she has won numerous awards as a counselor and leader in her district, including Middle School Counselor of the Year from the Colorado School Counselor Association. Her list of accolades is too long to list! However, the most significant evidence of her qualifications for LifeChanger of the Year is the lives she has changed as a result of her work!
When Ms. Bull sees a need, instead of meeting it herself, she will do everything she can to rally others to participate in the process. That way, they can experience a sense of satisfaction in seeing the difference they can make in their world. Fourteen years ago, after hearing about a school club, the B.I.O.N.I.C. Team (Believe It Or Not I Care), she decided with another counselor to start it at their school. Through the B.I.O.N.I.C. Team, they hoped to empower students to reach out to their peers to prevent them from falling through the cracks and let them know they are "seen," they "matter," and people care about them. In those 14 years, Jill has been the primary coordinator of B.I.O.N.I.C. Teams in several schools. The teams have reached out directly or indirectly to over 80,000 students, families, staff, and community members to create a more caring climate in the schools where each person knows they belong and are accepted.
At Cimarron, each counselor oversees a grade level B.I.O.N.I.C. Team. Besides a grade level, Ms. Bull leads the whole Cimarron B.I.O.N.I.C. Team.
Her B.I.O.N.I.C. Teams have reached out to other schools in the community that have experienced a student or staff member's death. Her B.I.O.N.I.C. members coordinate the signing of a 10-foot poster by putting it in the cafeteria for students and staff to sign. Ms. Bull or the other B.I.O.N.I.C. Advisors work with the kids to practice a speech to deliver the poster to the impacted school's principal and office staff.
Then, Ms. Bull and the principal load up their cars with students to drive to that school. She even went through the approval process with the district to transport students in her car. They deliver big platters of homemade chocolate chip cookies, the poster signed by students and staff, an encouraging note, and sometimes a basket of goodies for the counseling office/main office staff. For school tragedies in other schools in the state, they also reach out and mail a poster.
When Cimarron students return to school after being sick with extended illnesses, the B.I.O.N.I.C. Team reaches out with a stuffed school mascot, a mug filled with chocolates, and a card. They also coordinate with teachers to get missed homework assignments and help with tutoring that student. For students in the hospital, they deliver a card, a hoodie, and a stuffed school mascot.
When a student loses a loved one, the B.I.O.N.I.C. Team coordinates and delivers a homecooked meal to the family. Again, the students prepare and practice the speech they will give to the family with the meal. When a staff member loses a loved one, they provide peach cobbler to the staff member at school.
The B.I.O.N.I.C. New Student Welcome Committee meets with new students, gives them a little welcome bag of goodies, a planner, and a t-shirt, and then takes them on a school tour. They also go over the new student's schedule and other important information. B.I.O.N.I.C. also hosts a quarterly New Student Breakfast for all the new students to check in on them and connect them with other like-minded students.
The Cimarron B.I.O.N.I.C. Team also hosts 10/10 – I Care Day (sponsored by the international B.I.O.N.I.C. nonprofit) that encourages everyone to reach out to ten people on October 10th – one person each hour for ten hours – to make a difference in ten people's lives. They encourage each student and staff member to plan something to do for ten people throughout the day – a call to a grandparent, thank you notes for teachers, a flower for a secretary, a sweet treat for a friend, etc.
Group outreach is also done on 10/10. For example, the sixth-grade B.I.O.N.I.C. students collect items for activity bags for families with children in the hospital, and they deliver thank-you notes and carnations to the bus drivers at the end of the day. The seventh-grade B.I.O.N.I.C. members collect Giving Tree Stocking Stuffers, and during lunch, they give thank-you notes and chocolates to the cafeteria workers. They also do a Giving Tree for struggling families in the community during the holidays. The eighth-grade B.I.O.N.I.C. members bake chocolate chip cookies and read stories with the special needs students.
At the beginning of the year, the B.I.O.N.I.C. 8th graders train the new 6th-grade members. In the past, when their feeder school had a B.I.O.N.I.C. Team, too, they also trained them. To fund the B.I.O.N.I.C. outreach, Ms. Bull encourages the student leaders to create a budget and give speeches to the Parent Teacher Organization. She was always told that historically, the PTO would only fund 50% of requests. However, the kids do such an incredible job each year that all their requests have been funded.
"We have seen that the skills that B.I.O.N.I.C. Team members learn carry over into all areas of life," said Austin. "They become leaders because with every outreach they do, they see the impact immediately in the tears of grateful parents, hugs from impacted students, and words of thanks from staff and administrators. They learn speaking skills and the ability to express sympathy and concern for others going through tough times. That gives them the confidence to keep reaching out. They become leaders in other areas of life and earn awards and scholarships that set them apart from their peers. Ms. Bull is truly not just a LifeChanger, but a school changer, a community changer, and a world changer!"
I can’t think of a more deserving person than Jill to receive this award. She is kind, considerate and empathetic. Not only is she a great listener, but uses all her experience and training to make suggestions to whoever seeks her advice. However, she is not overbearing and understands that not everyone is ready to accept change. Jill follows through with all her commitments and does so with a smile and appropriate humor. She is a role model, fun to work with, fun to be with and I truly believe she is worthy of this award.
Jill is a very sweet person. She is very thoughtful to all my kitchen staff. She has made us feel very much appreciated. We love seeing her and appreciate her greeting us with her bubbly personality.
It is no surprise to me that Mrs. Bull has received this award. She has always changed the lives of her students in amazing ways. Her influence on me as my sixth grade teacher is unforgettable. I still tell people she was my favorite teacher. Her contagious smile, caring ways, and love for her students was just as evident then as it is now.

Jill is an amazing Middle School Counselor. She encouraged our daughter Breanna Summerlin to achieve her best performance. I believe it is Jill's commitment to excellence that helped us get through the middle school years. Breanna is now a Sophomore in college and I know her success has been because of the caring professionals like Jill Bull that encouraged her to be herself and do her best.

Your influence on her at a very young age, has left an impression so much so she's fashioned her academic studies at University of Colorado, Denver, desire to pursue post graduate work and dreams of a professional career I believe largely inspired by your relationship with her. Thank you for being a mentor. Thank you for being inclusive. Thank you for being supportive. You've reached her soul in a way that I couldn't as her mother, and for that I'm very grateful.
When I went to cimarron I was lucky enough to have Mrs. Bull as my counselor. As an 8th grader I was at a new school with no friends and had to start all over. Mrs. Bulls office was a safe space for me. I would come see her after school almost everyday and she always encouraged me to do my best as a student and as a person. I was so sad to only have her for one year but as a senior now at Legend High School I can say her kind words stills tick with me through my hardest days. She deserves this and so much more.
Mrs. Bull deserves this award as she actually changed my entire life and I am forever grateful. When I was in middle school, I went to Mrs. Bull to report my abusive home. I was so worried and scared of what was to come however she made me feel more comfortable. I wake up everyday thankful for my new life and none of it would have been possible without Mrs. Bull. Jill is an amazing person as a wife, mom friend and counselor. It was an honor to intern with Jill and be able to watch the way she works, to see her impact up close as I continue to work with her. I have been able to see the impact she makes daily in the lives of others over the past 11+ years. Jill has a gift to make others feel special and shred that with the students and staff she works with.
Jill Bull helped support me through my first couple years teaching and quickly became my favorite person to see at school. I watched her balance a thousand things a day with a smile on her face and no matter what she had going on, she made time to check in with me and say hello. Her spirit is so encouraging. She believed in me SO MUCH, which made me want to believe in myself and make her proud. She changed my self perception to being more positive just by her being herself and walking in the calling she has on her life. She is truly an outstanding woman who deserves to be recognized.

I met Jill Bull over 25 years ago when we opened Chaparral High School as teachers and I also had the privilege of being her assistant coach for the cheer team. We then moved to Sierra Middle School and I watched her transition into one of the most amazing counselors I have ever known. What she has done as a Life Changer in my life, I also have witnessed her do for others. Jill empowers people to find their own strength and to be the best person they can be. She does this for both the students and the adults that are blessed to know her. She taught me to be organized which allows more time for spontaneous fun. She taught me to find a reason to laugh and see the best in each moment and person. She taught me to provide opportunities for students to push themselves and see how much they can accomplish and have the feeling of pride in themselves. She taught me to be present in the moment and make others feel important, heard, supported, and loved. Overall, she teaches others to be kind, caring, loving, supportive, encouraging, authentic, honest, and funny through the actions that are just a natural and genuine part of the beautiful person she is. Although I am older than Jill, I want to be more like her when I grow up!

Jill Bull is a life changer. I have worked with Jill for the past 12 years at Cimarron Middle School. She was the person that I was able to learn from as an assistant principal for three years and a partner as I transitioned to be a principal for the last 9. Jill has changed my life by being a role model for myself and others on a daily basis. She is reliable, personable and a hard worker. She has dedicated her life to being a counselor and supporter of others.
I have seen her change the lives of students by the life long relationships she builds with them. The students that she is able to see come to her with serious life issues that they need support with. She helps and empowers students to be better problem solvers, students and kinder people. The amount of students that Jill has effected in positive ways over the years are countless.
Jill is equally there for staff members across the district and state. Not only has she mentored many counselors that have made a difference in other schools, she is a great support for leading her counseling department. Being innovative and having high quality standards has empowered her colleagues to do the same. The staff at Cimarron and around the district believe in her and applaud her for he difference she makes.
I would recommend Jill for the life long commitment for changing the lives of our students and staff. She truly makes a difference in our world!
Jill is an amazing mentor, her dedication to the profession of school counseling and the development of new counselors goes above and beyond what a mentor is. Jill allowed me to immediately get immersed with the students and counseling team, she truly made me feel welcome and comfortable during my practicum experience. She is completely dedicated to the success of the students on all levels and a supportive collaborator with all staff. I am honored to have had the opportunity to learn and grow under her supervision and hope to be the same caliber of school counselor that Jill is.
Jill Bull and I were colleagues in Douglas County School District as well as neighbors so I have multiple perspectives. Ms. Bull influenced her guidance counselor peers in may ways. She shared resources and how the support she provided 1:1, in small groups and for the staff truly makes a difference in the lives of many young people. Her ripple effect therefore goes beyond one middle school as she influenced and inspired her peers to try new strategies and connect more deeply with their students.
In our neighborhood, Jill was well-known by the gaggle of children growing up around us. My youngest child and her elementary-aged friends would stop their play to go check on Jill, her husband and their two children. They knew they were welcome and felt her loving support. Today my child still yearns to stay in contact with Jill and see how her family is thriving. She has recently transitioned to male gender and knows that he will be just as supported and accepted - no matter gender, sexual identification. Jill respects and shows compassion for all of humanity. We are very blessed to know Jill Bull and to remain friends a couple decades after meeting. She is truly a heart centered human being.
Middle school can be difficult for a lot of kids. I struggled with growing up and trying to find my place at school. From the first day I met Ms. Bull my experience changed. I was invited to be on the B.I.O.N.I.C team, and it gave me a purpose. Ms. Bull saw attributes in me that many adults throughout my life ignored because there were other, more interesting kids. Ms. Bull provided me with the opportunity to share my "big heart" with others in the outreach group. I also worked with Ms. Bull in the office as an aide, and I always knew I could talk to her if I needed help or someone to talk to. One of my favorite things to do during the week was talk to Ms. Bull. I always knew I had someone at school who truly wanted to know how I was doing. She wanted to understand and listen because she genuinely cared. To this day, as a junior in college, talking to Ms. Bull brings me so much joy. She is an incredible leader and a true LifeChanger. Ms. Bull had an influence on who I am and where I am today, and I am very grateful.
I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with Jill for many many years. She's the best counselor I've ever worked with during my 30+ years in education. Jill has changed countless students' lives, they know/feel that she truly has their best interests at heart. I can think of no one more deserving of this award/prize than Mrs. Bull!

Jill Bill has been nothing less than an instrumental factor in my career. This phenomenal woman impacted my career as a middle school teacher more than she will ever know. Her passion for counseling the “forgotten crew” of tweens is absolutely unmatched. I have witnessed firsthand her relentless path to make our humans greater than they knew they could ever be. I have known Jill since I was 13 years old. When I was in high school she was my coach and she pushed me to learn and grow everyday. I always felt like I mattered to Coach Bull and she was such a positive influence in my life. I am now lucky enough to work alongside Jill at Cimarron Middle School and she is still teaching, encouraging, and making students feel special every day. I am blessed to still learn and grow from Jill in my professional career and honored to call Jill a friend.
I have had the good fortune of working with Jill for over 20 years in the Douglas County School District. It is hard to capture all the contributions she brings to our students and our school community. Jill is a leader among our district’s counselors, serving on committees to improve the ways in which we support students, she has mentored colleagues, and supervised interns. But more importantly, Jill has an incredible capacity for connecting with people, in an authentic way that creates a trusting relationship with the students and families she works with. From there, she uses her professional skills and knowledge to guide, coach and support students through challenges that are typical and some challenges that are complex and traumatic. Day after day, month after month, Jill is the safe, trusted adult for her students. I am grateful she has chosen to work in DCSD.
Wow, I must say reading all of these notes is such an awesome experience. Jill has always been so influential in my life, but to see how she has impacted so many others is incredibly inspiring. My sister has always been a humble leader, with strong convictions, and the tenacity, intuition, and compassion to influence change around her. She has always lived her life with "service for others" as a core leading value, so while I did not know of most of these professional achievements, I am not surprised. I was adopted at 3 years old, as Jill was 17 and starting to make plans for her next phase in life. Certainly not an easy undertaking for a high school student, with all of her own driving aspirations, to take on new young family members in need. However, that is just what she did, putting others first as she always has. She gave me an immediate example of what nurture, compassion, love and family looked like. She loved unconditionally and with a purpose to make our lives better. In doing so, she altered the direction of my life and changed my story forever. There is no doubt, that without her, my life would not be the same. So, a "life changing" award seems very appropriate. There is no better example or mentor in my life that illustrates how to live your life positively, no matter the circumstances, and always lift up the people around you. We are all so lucky to have her in our lives.
Ms. Bull was someone who was constant and steadfast in my middle school experience. Even if I wasn’t in her office, she was always in the hallways during passing periods offering her glimmering smile and she would always ask how I was and if I was doing alright. But it wasn’t just me, she went out of her way to make everyone feel seen, heard, and remind them that they belong. The world needs more people like her.
LifeChanger indeed! Anyone and everyone who has had the privilege of working with Jill Bull knows that that is the perfect title to describe Jill’s impact! The ripple affect and life-saving impact that Jill has had on students, parents, families, colleagues, friends, and the community is truly immeasurable. Jill leads by example, sees a need, fills the void, and coaches others through it all. She has a beautiful and unique way of walking along side others in their journey while helping them navigate the challenges along the way. When others celebrate, she joins in the celebration and when others struggle, she is there.
I’ve had the privilege of working with Jill for many years….almost two decades, what a gift! It is amazing how she sees the best in all of us; students, parents, and colleagues. She has a gift for not only bringing out the best in others, but helping them see it in themselves.
In education, it is a often a testament to our impact when students come back into our lives years later. This happens for Jill all of the time. “Her kids” are forever “her kids.” Jill Bull is a LifeChanger and I am blessed to have called her colleague and forever a friend.
Jill Bull is one of the most genuine human beings I’ve ever met. She is ready to help anyone at any time- sometimes before they even know they need help. I have been blessed to work with Jill for many years and have seen time and time again the incredible impact she has on the lives of middle schoolers and her colleagues. Jill is the definition of “above and beyond”. I always know I can go to her with concerns I have about students and she will do whatever it takes to support that student. Jill is kind and caring. Ms. Bull is truly one of the reasons I am alive today. I had a rough go of it in middle school from family life, to bullying, to struggling with school work. I didn’t feel supported in the school I was in, EXCEPT for when it came to Ms. Bull. She continuously went out of the way to check in on me almost everyday. She got me help when at the time I didn’t know I needed it (I did). She also made me feel like I didn’t just have a friend, I had an idol and someone to aspire to become. She is a light in a system that can always use work, and she works at the highest level to make sure every student she can impact positively, she does. I never got the chance to thank her for pointing my life in the direction I was supposed to be going. As the tears stream down my face, this is my thank you to her, and my support for her being the ONLY person who deserves this award. Ms. Bull, you are an incredible human being, a remarkable educator, and someone the people on this earth are LUCKY to ever get the chance to come across. Jill Bill is an incredible person and a huge asset to our community and students. When my daughter was struggling with multiple health issues she really helped her so she could keep up with her work and was so encouraging and kind. Thanks for all she does!

Ms Bull is the person that calls to tell the parents something special. Or to cheer on an accomplishment. Or reaches out to her students during their day because she truly cares. She is very special and helped my triplets be successful throughout middle school.

I have had the pleasure of working with Jill Bull at two different middle schools over the past 20 years. Her great sense of humor combined with caring support and advocacy for the needs of adolescents helps provide a strong foundation for all learners. Her tireless work with Colt's Corral (a program to help students feel comfortable and get off to a strong in middle school) has set the tone for a positive middle school experience for so many students and parents. I had the privilege of working with Jill for eight years at Cimarron MS. She brings joy everywhere she goes! She has such a heart for kids, and it was inspirational to watch her connect with and change the lives of so many kids during our time working together. Jill Bull is a dedicated and caring counselor and is one of the most positive people I know. When Jill hears of a problem or situation that needs attention, she is quick to brainstorm solutions and recruits others to help her implement the solutions. Jill empowers students and parents to take charge of their own struggles and work toward progress. Jill is a master at conflict resolution and shares her knowledge with others. This experience makes you even more aware of what is needed in a school counselor. You have been a great to so many students and staff members through the years most recently at Cimarron Middle School where you have served in so many different roles as the counselor. My favorite was seeing the thoughtful ways you have recognized and supported various colleagues as they retired with your hilarious skits, personalized videos and clever gifts. Even though we haven’t worked directly together, after reading your nomination and all you have done for students in your 33 years in education, I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award. All too often the work educators do behind the scenes is overlooked. I am so excited that yours hasn’t been! What an inspiration you have been and continue to be! I have had the honor of working with Jill Bull at Cimarron for twelve years. She goes above and beyond in her work for students, teachers, and the community. She has a big heart and has touched so many lives including my daughter's when she was at Cimarron.
Through her encouragement and guidance, my daughter was a part of many groups and activities that Jill ran. She even reached out to her after she started High School to share more volunteer opportunities. Jill has a unique way with students that puts them at ease and gives them confidence. She does whatever it takes to support students so they can experience success! She is so deserving of this award!

I’m not sure if I would have made it though middle school without Jill. At 13, I had just moved with my dad 2 weeks before school started. He had no idea how to talk to me, parent me, or how to navigate this thing called middle school— but then, Jill.
I remember walking in the office him saying, “ I have no idea what to do here, can you help me”. And from then on, I’ve never known a life without Jill. I should add this was TWENTY years ago. Jill went above and beyond her counselor duties and helped me with so much but worth noting the school projects and late night talks. She chose to stand in the gap for me and became this teenage girls role model. Though life led me out of middle school, then out of high school and then college— we have always picked up where we left off. Jill traveled 1600 miles to attend my wedding in and even held my daughter during the ceremony, because out of all my people there, it’s Jill. I read these comments and every single one is true. None of us had to even think about what to write because the goodness of Jill flows out of us. We are all better because of knowing her, and I’m so excited to know she’s nominated for this. As the holidays are approaching, so is my yearly visit to Colorado, and I still see Jill every year when I visit home— She will always be home to me.
Jill was a great mentor and counselor while my child attended Cimmaron. She was able to talk with my child and with her skillset, she was able to reach my child and help my child during a difficult time. Because of people like Jill, her expertise help make parents' lives a little better and create a cohesive environment for communication that may not exist otherwise. Proud of you for this recognition Jill! You deserve it!
Jill Bull is an amazing person and has been a positive life changer for so many students, families and educators over her career. Personally, Jill was one of the key people that our two daughters looked to during their middle school years at Cimarron! She found ways to listen and encourage and helped with creating a schedule where our oldest could be in the Severe Needs Classroom as an aide and helped our youngest be in orchestra and Spanish so our daughters could advance their passions and interests during these pivotal years. Jill also always helped our daughters build their confidence in themselves to be their best and be resilient. Jill has done this for so many students and families over the years and the community trusts her because she has been so consistent in her actions to make a difference in the lives of others. The one and only Mrs. Jill Bull! Jill has changed many lives over her lifetime, but this is how she changed mine. Getting the opportunity to open Cimarron Middle School with Jill (woking on the original Core Team in 2007 while working at Sierra Middle School at the same time) she has inspired me to always work hard and give my best to our students and community. She is someone I look up to and look too for advise, and someone who leads by example. Jill has given so much of her time to students, parents, colleagues, and the communities she lives and the communities she has taught and worked in. Jill Bull was a pivotal mentor to me as a baby counselor. She prepared me to navigate the rewarding, but often challenging job of a School Counselor. She helped me to see myself more clearly and discover my strengths as an educator. Mrs bull was my councilor when I was in 8th grade. Mrs bull is a amazing person we clicked right away once we met I didn’t know her really Till my last year in middle school it makes me sad because I could of known her all those years but we clicked instantly. Mrs bull showed me what it meant to “have someone to talk to” she was always there with a listening ear and ready to talk. I loved seeing Mrs bull she made days so fun I also had tutoring with her so she helped me with school. Mrs bull is that person a lot of people need in life someone to talk to and laugh with she was definitely there when I needed her. I would take her phone and take pics of me so she didn’t forget about me when I went to hs. Mrs bull is still there for me till this day I wish I had her at my school because I don’t have the kinda realationship with any one in hs. She would make time to talk to me when others wouldn’t. I think of Mrs bull as family I honestly don’t know where I would be without her today. She showed me the kind of person I wanna be. A person that makes other people makes them feel good about themselves. I remember a talk I had with her and I was telling her about this boy and she said well does he treat u good? And I said yea she said “ like gold though? Not bronze not silver shiny GOLD” and I was like I think so she said “good because that’s how u should be treated” it made me think and be like yea she’s right I gotta keep those expectations high like “gold”. I can never thank mrs bull enough honestly. If your asking if Mrs bull is a life changer ima just tell you right now if you meet her you will ask yourself how you were living without her. Believe it or not, I was just talking about Jill Bull today and then I saw this awesome accolade that she’s been nominated for. Jill has made such an impact in both of my child’s lives! She listened to their needs and made them both feel loved and understood while at Cimarron! Trust me, she knows us well! She has supported me with parenting my children when I felt helpless. I cannot thank her enough for the support we, as a family, have received at middle school and beyond. Jill is truly a work of art and a force to reckoned with. Jill was my son’s 8th grade counselor during a difficult year where I was diagnosed with brain cancer. My husband and I always felt like he was in good hands with Ns Bull while he was at school. She went above and beyond to meet his needs in every way. We are so thankful for her and all her support. She is very deserving of this honor.

Hands down Jill is THE best school counselor I have ever worked with in my 25 years as an educator. It was a sad day when I left the school Jill was at. Jill Bull is truly deserving of this award. I was hired by Jill to work alongside her as a counselor 19 years ago. She has been an amazing life saver (literally) and helper to hundreds if not thousands of Middle School Students. She goes above and beyond to get the kids the help they need from outside counseling, to learning leadership, to food, to holiday gifts, to getting them back in school, to organization, to visiting them in hospitals or homes when there is a tragedy. She is also supportive of the parents and staff which helps to create such a positive work environment here at Cimarron Middle School. She always steps up when some one needs coverage or help with a project. She has always been a great department leader and cheers us on every step of the way. When they could not fill a counseling job in the building this year I offered to come back part time because of the team I would get to work with, which includes Jill. She makes work fun and it isn't like that everywhere in schools especially with such an emotionally taxing job as counselors. She is highly deserving of this award and quite possibly long overdue!!!!

I first met Jill about 15 years ago when she had to make me, as a parent, aware of a troubling situation with my child who was in middle school at the time. Jill truly is a Life Changer! She introduced me to my husband, a special education teacher, 28 years ago. Jill invited me to volunteer at Sierra Middle School in Parker CO during off days from my corporate job and I enjoyed it so much that I eventually pursued full time employment. Thanks to that guidance, I have worked in schools for 18 years and am now a DCSD middle school Registrar. And thanks to the fact that Jill also happens to be my little sister, she changed my life yet again when she made me an Aunt, twice over, by adopting sibling toddlers. Such a joyous life affirming occasion for all! Jill’s truly caring nature and desire to help others set themselves up for success is evidenced in her daily actions. Over 30 years ago Jill Bull married my son and has become a delightful daughter rather than in-law. She exemplifies love and caring with everyone and especially with her students. She loves her job. I had the pleasure of working with Jill Bill several years ago as a teacher at her school. Jill always approached every person, situation and circumstance with care and compassion. As a totally biased cousin, I could think of nobody more deserving of this award than Jill. First off she had great role-models in caring for children in her mom and dad who fostered kids of all shapes and sizes, colors and creeds as we were growing up. I’m pretty sure the experience of the foster kids imparted how a positive experience can impact a kids life. That Jill would go on to dedicate her life to working with kids is no surprise to me. And that she would want to bring a program like the Bionic program to her school and other schools in her orbit makes prefect sense also.
As I reflect on my own childhood experience in school, I was lucky to have lots of good teachers but there was one that I had in 8th grade that made a lasting impact on my life. Her name was Miss Dunn and she was my home room English teacher and she ran the school choir and theater club. As I look back on my experiences with Miss Dunn, I think the biggest thing she did for me was make me feel “part of” something. At that age (12-13), nurturing kids so they feel like they are part of something is huge.
I think Jill’s work, especially the work around the Bionic program has led to the same experience I had with Miss Dunn in 8th grade. I encourage you to choose my cousin Jill as a life changer of the year. Go Jill!
