Music that Describes Angelica
Ms. Angelica Lopez was nominated by an anonymous student.
"I am nominating my counselor Ms. Angie Lopez, school counselor at Jane Hambric School, for this LifeChanger recognition," explains her student. "I will begin by providing my story. I am a college student now majoring in Education with a goal to one day be a school counselor, just like Ms. Lopez. But this was not always the case. Middle school years are some of the toughest for any student, from hormones and identity issues to friendship conflicts and academics. Now you add a rough home life to this, and it creates the perfect cocktail for bigger issues. That was exactly what happened to me. My inner struggles as a middle school girl were very much present. I was trying to figure out who I was and whether I belonged anywhere. Friends turned on me because of my sexual preference, teachers gave up on me because I was failing, and family completely abandoned me because they were ashamed of the girl I was. I felt like my life was a waste of not only my time, but also a waste to everyone around me."
"I was sent to Ms. Lopez's office for the first time after getting into a huge fight at school," said the student. "I was cussing up a storm, angry at life...I remember when she took me into her office like it was yesterday. She sat with me, and I refused to speak to her. She patiently waited until I was calmer and said, 'I hate my life.' Her words to me were, "You can't hate a beautiful thing such as life." I spent two hours in her office that day. During those two hours, I felt the most love, safety, and comfort that I had ever felt in life, even from my so-called parents. Ms. Lopez opened up my eyes to so many things that day. The first thing I realized from that conversation was that I did not respect myself, and therefore others would not respect me until I believed in myself first."
"After I left her office that day, I met with Ms. Lopez almost every other day," said the student. "I felt I could trust someone for the first time in my life. I felt like someone genuinely cared about me. For the next two years of middle school, Ms. Lopez was truly an angel in my life. My mom did not wash my clothes, but Ms. Lopez did. My mom never helped me with my homework, but Ms. Lopez did. My mom did not hug me, but Ms. Lopez did. But what I value most is that when everyone around me did not believe in me, Ms. Lopez did. 100%. For that, I will forever be grateful to this woman. She is truly a LifeChanger. She changed my life in ways that I hope to be able to do for others when I become a counselor."
Ms. Lopez muchas gracias por todo lo que hace por nuestra comunidad de Hambric. Padres e hijos la aprecian con cariño y mucho agredecimiento. Bien merecido este reconocimiento.
First and foremost, congratulations on this nomination Mrs. López.
I don’t even know where to begin, Mrs. López was my first grade teacher approximately 21 years ago. I am a firm believer that every educator we encounter leaves a seed in our hearts and mind that makes us want to continue learning. Mrs. López did exactly that, however with her kindness she also planted the seed in my heart. When I first moved to El Paso, I didn’t speak any English, my mom did not speak English, my dad did but very very minimal. Mrs. López was my very first teacher to teach me how to speak English, I remember her being very kind and patient. She always made sure her classroom was a safe environment for each and every one of her students, everyone learned together and nobody was left behind. Mrs. López always found a way to help me feel comfortable in practicing my English, she always pushed us to not be embarrassed to ask small things such as asking to go to the restroom, and she would kindly correct us by saying “remember it’s may I go to the restroom, not can I”. Mrs. Lopez throughout the years has always been a part of all of my successes, and she will always remain one of the teachers that always believed in me, and pushed me to always be the best I could be. I will forever be grateful to have had such an amazing 1st grade teacher, mentor and forever friend. ??
We're incredibly proud of our dear friend and colleague Angelica Lopez on her nomination for the LifeChanger award. She rightfully deserves the recognition, though she herself would be the last person to seek the attention. As the spouse of one of Mrs. Lopez' co-workers whose children attend the same campus, I can attest to her professionalism, educational expertise, and the utmost respect she has earned from among all who work alongside her. It is easy to see just how beloved she is by all the children entrusted to her care. Our oldest daughter was fortunate enough to have Mrs. Lopez as a teacher in 1st grade, and to this day she recalls how much she loved and learned from Mrs. Lopez. In her role as counselor, Mrs. Lopez continues to be a central figure in the success of the school, from wide-ranging student concerns to interfacing with the community at large — I see this through the lens of her colleagues and as a positively-impacted parent. Jane Hambric School has earned a reputation in the district as a great campus to be part of, and Mrs. Lopez's 20+ year legacy there both confirms this and inspires everyone she works with. We wish her the very best in this well-deserved and amazing opportunity!
Thank you.
That is about all I can say to this kind counselor and woman. Ms. Lopez helped me and my daughter tremendously in so many ways. Ms. Lopez has the ability to make anyone feel comfortable and genuinly cared for. My daughter is a changed girl because of her. Truth be told, so am I. In my humble opinion Ms. Lopez deserves this.
Thank you Mrs. Lopez for always being there for all Hambric students, including my little one. You played a major role in helping her learn how to settle differences she had with one of her peers. You immediately helped her feel comfortable and safe. For that, I will always be grateful.
Not too long ago, I was in a very dark place. I tried dealing with everything on my own, but my life continued to spiral downward and out of control. Somehow, Angie was able to open my eyes and show me that life is beautiful. I began to believe in myself again and I was able to crawl out of the dark place I was in. She has a gift that enables her to see the good in every person that others overlook. Her outreach goes beyond her workplace. She is a role model and an amazing human being. She is highly deserving of this award. Angie, you truly are a life changer.
Congratulation on your nomination for the Life Changer Award, it is well deserved. Mrs Lopez is a dedicated counselor who has helped many children and teachers not just in school, but also in their personal lives. She will do whatever it takes to help. In 2014 she was selected as Teacher of the Year at her campus and a district Elite 8 nominee. In 2019, she was selected as her high school's Outstanding Alumni. She has also earned her campus the bronze, silver and gold Lone Star State School Counselors awards. She is an amazing and kind counselor who happens to be my Angel. It is no different in her personal life. She is always there for her children, her husband, her parents and all her family. May God bless our daughter.
I want to take this time to congratulate Mrs. Lopez for her kindness, dedication, and for always being attentive. I have had the privilage to work with her in many cases that required attention and confidentiality. She is always available when I need her and she is a great listener. She is a life changer in many ways, especially when she dedicates her time to the students needs.
First off, I want to say congratulations Angie!!! I am not surprised by this nomination you have received. Mrs. Lopez is such a sweet hearted person, who is always thoughtful and caring to others. Mrs. Lopez deserves this award because she has such grace when it comes to our students. She makes sure that all our students are safe. She always takes the time to listen and provide help no matter what. She will stop what she is doing to help out. I met Mrs. Lopez when I started working at Hambric. As time went on, I did not realize she and I went to high school together. Didn't hang with the same crowd haha and since then she has been nothing but a great friend to me. I to would go to Mrs. Lopez seeking advice or to vent and she never made me feel bad about what I was feeling. I knew that I could seek her help and trust my feelings and thoughts with her. Mrs. Lopez is someone who is trustworthy and our students see that. I want to thank Mrs. Lopez for being the great woman she is and always smiling with positivity.
I had the privilege to work alongside Angie as Counseling partners at Jane Hambric. Angie embodies everything that a school counselor should be. She is compassionate, caring, and selfless. Angie has the ability to create a safe space for anyone who needs her help and guidance. She listens without judgement, she empowers others to believe in their ability to find solutions within themselves, and she loves unconditionally. Quite simply, she represents the best in our profession.
What a great story! Definitely life changing. And I have no doubt that you do that everyday for any and all of your students. Congratulations , Angie. You are truly an inspiration ??
Now, in this world and this present time in life is hard to find beautiful and good hearted people. As hard as it might seem, there are still these kind of people out there. I would like to a moment to express a few words about one of those kind people now in my life. I truly consider Ms. Angie López one of the most genuine person, I have had the privilege to meet. She is one of the few valuable staff members in Jane A. Hambric. Ms. Lopez is the perfect example of how a school counselor should treat and support her scholars. Jane A. Hambric is lucky to have her as part of their staff. Ms. Angie López is one the most humble .., loving and sincere persons, I have ever met. Thank you, Ms. Angie Lopez for all you do. Thank you for all your time…, effort and patience you have for our scholars. May GOD bless you.. Always… !
Sincerely,
Guadalupe Asencio

I have had the privilege of knowing Mrs. Angie Lope for the past 20 years. I have worked with her in different capacities. Mrs. Lopez and I met at Jane Hambric as teachers. Instantly she befriended me no questions asked. I stayed at Hambric for 10 years where our relationship just continued to blossom by the year. I left to pursue other opportunities out side of the campus. 9 years later I return to Hambric as the Principal of the campus and she had been internally promoted as one of the school counselors. Upon my return, she welcomed be back with open arms, as if I had never left. Through our time together I have witness the relationships that she has build with her colleagues but most importantly how she is an amazing advocate for the students and how relationship with them. Our parents and community love her for her humbleness, affection, support to our Hawks and the relationships she has build with all through out the years. Mrs. Lopez is very deserving of this award and more as she is has been a Life Changer to with any one she crosses path with.
Congratulations Angie!! You are an amazing person and counselor!?
