Laurencio Saenz was nominated by his colleague, Pamala Bethke.

"Mr. Larry, as all the students in the FAC/FCC units call him, is the kindest man I have ever met," said Bethke. "He is the apex of an excellent paraprofessional. His compassion and empathy are beyond my ability as a Special Education teacher. He is very patient and works with some of the neediest students with behavioral issues at Stony Point High School."

Mr. Larry helps the students run the coffee cart. Mr. Larry teaches them to clean the coffee urns, make the coffee, set up the cart, and stock the coffee cart. Then, he takes students around his large school, selling hot and iced coffee, hot chocolate, and tea. Mr. Larry helps the students learn to count money, make change, and punch prepaid purchase cards. He has taught the students proper communication, like asking teachers if they want things from the cart. They have learned to take turns, ask politely, and say please and thank you. Under Mr. Larry's supervision, the students get the ordered items and give them to the teachers.

"I like to visit the FAC classroom, and when I do, Mr. Larry is constantly working with students," said Bethke. "His voice is calming and kind; all the students listen intently, even those with difficulty listening or participating. He encourages them, teaches them, and genuinely cares about the students. We have about 40 FAC students, and he works with them all. Mr. Larry is such an essential part of the educational team. He deserves recognition for being the incredible teacher he is!"

What can I say that hasn't already be said about Larry. It's hard to believe he was a high ranking officer with the DPS. He is the most kindest hard working co-worker I have met. I don't think I have ever seen him not smiling and the patience he has with his students is amazing. You are alway organized with your tablet and getting the students on the buses. It is my honor to be able to say he is a great co-worker and friend. Thank you for all you do. Congratulations!

Mr. Saenz (known affectionately around here as Mr. Larry) works so well with the students, especially those experiencing difficulties, that it's hard to put into words how valuable he is to this team. I've said it on more than one occasion--if he decided to do something else with his life, the impact of his loss would be immense and beyond measure. I wholeheartedly endorse him as a lifechanger; he is the real thing.

Craig Shaw Posted over a year ago

To Whom It May Concern: I've had the prviledge of working with Larry Saenz for the past 4 and a half years. There has never been a time where Larry doesn't show me nothing but positive energy. He loves working with our kids in FAC and he always has the time to tell the kids to say hello to me and to fist bump me. I applaud him for all the affection he gives of himself for our children. Even though his department has been short-handed for the last couple of months, it still does not deter him from giving all of himself. I wish there was someway we could clone this man. I truly believe this world would be a better place! Sincerely, Johnny Silvas Educational Assistant III Stony Point High School

Laurencio Saenz is an amazing paraprofessional. He works 1:1 with several students to help them regulate their emotions, he is always volunteering to do extra things with the students like playing sports and making fun crafts. Because of his experience as a leader in the police force, Mr. Larry doesn’t only help with hands on activities with the students, but he also helps with the planning of activities for our students as well as staffing logistics. It has been a blessing for me to work with him.

Terry Lewinski Posted over a year ago

Mr. Larry is an outstanding LifeChanger every day at SPHS in so many ways! He has excellent skills from his previous job that he retired from that are very beneficial to our students and staff. He is very professional in how he works. He is dependable each day in fulfilling all his many responsibilities. He is always calm and wise in how he works with students and they respond to his teaching very well. His leadership skills are invaluable to all those he works with, helping with the arrival and dismissal of students with maintaining a bus/car riders log to help with our attendance records, as well. He is very experienced in his job and is able to take our students off campus to work in a program called CBVI (Community Based Vocational Instruction) on B-Days during 5th and 6th period. He is very respected, positive, fun and most of all he is cares so much and wants the best for each student to be successful. He is also supportive of all staff members. He makes such a wonderful, life-long impact in the lives of our students and staff members and he is greatly appreciated for all he does. I am very thankful for him and all he does at SPHS.

Noel Breger Posted over a year ago

I wait every morning for the sound of the coffee cart rolling down the hallway at Stony Point HS. I get coffee or tea daily - without fail - to make sure our amazing FAC students continue to grow as students and people. Larry is the key to that .... patient, happy, and kind. I agree with the comments of Pam B. He is deserved of the title of life changer - he has changed the lives of the FAC students and the lives of all who come in contact with them.

MV Posted over a year ago

It takes a patient and observant individual to teach the most simplistic forms of life skills. Qualities that come natural to Laurencio. I have no doubt that he is deserving of this honor.
