Music that Describes Jody

Jody Allison was nominated by her principal, Nicky Andrews.

"Jody is amazing!"

"Jody has so many strategies that are so useful. Her Kung Fu is very strong!”

"Jody encourages me."

"I appreciate her perspective. She equips us to be a better version of ourselves."

These are a few descriptions of Ms. Allison. She possesses many traits that make her an outstanding employee and a LifeChanger. She is truly an exceptional and loyal employee who not only strives to strengthen and improve her skill set, but to leave her school community a better and more joyous place to learn and work. Ms. Allison is positive, enthusiastic, and committed; a tireless worker; a team player; and above all, dedicated to serving the teachers, students, and staff at Greenville Middle Academy.

Ms. Allison demonstrates a keen knowledge of the teaching and learning process. She is a natural teacher, an enthusiastic learner, and a supportive leader. As the instructional coach, she shares her knowledge of teaching practices and engages with teachers to help them engage, challenge, and support all students in their classrooms. For example, Ms. Allison has adeptly initiated coaching cycles with teachers at her school. In doing so, her fellow teachers have not only reflected on data, but have also discussed ways to better address student needs. This monumental task can only be done by establishing trusted relationships with teachers throughout the school. Conversations have led to more robust instructional practices in the classroom that directly relate to engaging students with content in innovative ways. Students are growing and making strides academically. In fact, for the 2022 school year, Greenville Middle Academy has been rated Excellent on the South Carolina School Report Card.

Additionally, Ms. Allison has volunteered to serve as a mentor to new instructional coaches in her school district. She allows others to observe her as she engages in coaching cycles with other teachers. During these cycles, participants observe firsthand Ms. Allison's genuine rapport and collaboration with reviewing benchmark data and planning for next steps. The participants all commented on how skillful Ms. Allison is with her questioning and support of teachers.

These relationships are further captured in the comments shared about Jody by staff:

"Jody Allison is an amazing instructional coach, mentor, and friend. She wears many hats. Jody is the schedule guru for everything related to state testing. She is the fill-in teacher for all subjects when there is a last-minute absence. Jody is the constant encouragement in the hallway for administration, students, and teachers. She is IT support for teachers when we have no idea how to work technology. Jody is the patient support in meetings when teachers ask silly questions. She constantly worries about others before herself. Jody is worthy of all acknowledgments because she acknowledges others before herself. That is why she is the best of the best."

-Katie West, ELA Teacher, English/Language Arts Department Chair, 2022 Emerging Teacher of the Year

"Jody Allison is a world-class, phenomenal instructional coach because, at her core, she is a fantastic teacher. She nurtures relationships with staff and students, and while this makes her a great IC, she does it because she genuinely cares about everyone in our building. Jody can single-handedly turn a bad around because of her enthusiastic, sunny disposition. She is knowledgeable about data and pedagogy, and she stays current with best practices. Our school is a better, brighter place because of Jody Allison!"

-Dr. Anna Hasenkamp, ELA Teacher, Team Leader

"Jody Allison is a breath of fresh air. Her enthusiasm for learning and sharing her knowledge is contagious. Jody brings a unique talent to curriculum design with her enthusiasm, positive energy, and attentiveness to the teachers' needs. She takes the time to create relevant, fun, and engaging professional development for each grade level and content area. She is always available to assist with anything from developing a grading rubric to discussing Gamecock football. But Jody is not just focused on instruction and curriculum development. She cares about the overall well-being of the teachers. Jody takes the time to get to know us and what we need to be successful in the classroom and life. There is so much I could say about Jody, but the main thing is she's the foundation of our school. Without her, we would be on shaky ground."

-Teka Bowens, Related Arts Department Chair

"Jody Allison is a wonderful human being; some might say she's a superhero. She exemplifies kindness and a willingness to go above and beyond. Jody's the educator I hope to become someday. Jody challenges me to think outside of the box, and she pushes me to become better every single day. Jody motivates and inspires through her actions and is one of the hardest-working people I have ever met. Simply put, she sets the standard. Our school and community are blessed to have someone who cares deeply and passionately about her craft."

-Ben Sinnett, Science Teacher, Team Leader, MAEd, NBCT, and PAEMST

Ms. Allison continually demonstrates through her actions and words that she is a collaborator, supporter, teacher's teacher, and coach. She truly cares about the teachers, students, and staff at GMA and is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure teachers and staff feel heard, supported, and encouraged to do their best.

"Her support has been invaluable to me as we challenge our staff to support a culture of learning, one focused on improving our practice so we directly impact student learning," said Andrews. "Our school community is better because of Jody Allison's passion, commitment, support, and guidance."

Ms. Allison has been instrumental in creating and orchestrating Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) at her school. She has structured weekly meetings to support teachers with professional learning. Her meetings include learning from others in the building, looking at data from Mastery Connect, developing next steps in response to data through Goal Check-ins, and assisting with planning sessions that provide peers time to plan intentionally. Her meetings ensure standards are addressed and students have opportunities to engage with learning in various ways.

Her creativity shines through in planning engaging professional development, such as the Tech Tools Rams Run 5K. As part of this session, she worked with the Discovery Education consultant to provide teachers with various opportunities to engage with tools such as Plickers, Flipgrid, Google Keep, and Flippity so that teachers could immediately implement them in their classrooms with their students. Teachers could see this implementation immediately from teachers who attended PD that day. After participating in the 5K, the teachers received a 5K medal.

"Jody's positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning have contributed to our school community in so many positive ways. We are incredibly fortunate to have Jody Allison as our instructional coach at Greenville Middle Academy. It is my honor to nominate Jody Allison for the LifeChanger of the Year award," said Andrews.

This is my first year teaching with Jody Allison as my Instructional Coach. In the short time I have known Jody she has already impacted my life in countless positive ways. Professionally, Jody listens when I have questions, whether they be regarding how to best meet the needs of individual students to the smallest details of how to use new technology, and always responds with patience and compassion. In addition to her vast experience and knowledge, Jody's caring and enthusiastic personality shine through in each task she tackles. I feel confident knowing that if have a question or concern, Jody will know how to advise me. Personally, I have felt exceptionally welcomed to the school this year by Jody. When Jody asks, "How are you doing today?" you know she truly cares about your answer. Not only has she ensured that I have the materials and information to teach my students, but Jody went above and beyond the first week of school when she offered me her office to use as a classroom so I did not have to be a science teacher floating among various classrooms. In a matter of hours Jody had her room emptied and ready for me to move in so I could have a permanent space to teach my students the following school day. Having this space has made a world of difference for my students and me. Jody have provided numerous opportunities for me to learn and grow as a teacher and whole-heartedly recommend her for the Lifechanger of the Year award.

Jody is the best stepmom ever!! When she came into my life in middle school I didn’t know what to think. “She isn’t my mom” “She doesn’t know me and what my family has gone through” “but she makes my dad happy” were some of the thoughts running through my mind. She quickly made me realize how awesome she was and how much she made my dad smile. After my parents divorce, my dad was pretty down and you could tell. He wanted to do everything that was best for my brother and I, but never had time to fix himself. Once Jody came into our life, he lit up, Jody was the spark in my dads life. She has constantly supported us and love our family more than anything. She even accepted us in to her massive family and we are so thankful for it. I quickly realized how Jody became my second mother and how she loved me like her own. She is so selfless, caring, and always wants what is best for everyone else. Jody constantly loves others before herself. She is so amazing and wouldn’t change her for the world. She has changed my dad’s life for the better and changed mine as well. Thank you Jody!!

Jody is a rockstar! She supports teachers and students like no other. She works tirelessly and selflessly, and she has a smile and genuine kind spirit that lights up a tired teacher’s soul. She also feeds a teachers soul with her knowledge and her creative ways of sharing that knowledge. She also literally feeds us food sometimes, too. Though I am now retired, her impact lives on in my life. I often find myself thinking of her and channeling my inner “Jody” as I strive to be a more like her: a creative thinker, problem solver, and kindness warrior. She is a life changer!!

Even though I do not work at Greenville Middle Academy, Jody has changed my educator life. Jody is my Instructional Coach mentor, and she has done so much for me in just 11 short weeks. She is always willing to listen to me and she will respond to my questions (even if it is at a crazy time of day!). In a job like instructional coaching, it can be very overwhelming. Jody keeps her cool, and is always encouraging me to do the best I can. She always has creative solutions to problems. She shares all of her knowledge with me that I then share with my staff, making my staff better because of Jody as well. In our interactions together, she clearly cares about her staff and the students at Greenville Middle. As far as I am concerned, Jody is the LifeChanger of the Year winner. The nomination is well deserved.

Jody is the best ! She constantly cares about the students and teachers at her school. When she leaves work, her job is never done. She always tries to find new ways to present fun lessons or ideas for presentations that the teachers can use. At night she spends countless hours on the phone advising and encouraging teachers or just listening when they need a sounding board about their ideas or how to solve issues in the classroom. Jody is one of the most selfless people I have ever met. She constantly cares and worries about others before attempting anything on her own personal agenda. She is also the best mother any kid could have! I realized how amazing she was years ago and I was smart enough to marry her ! I have been involved in education for over 35 years and I have never met someone who is so enthusiastic about education , teaching strategies and methods and how teachers can implement them to help the children in the classroom. Jody has changed many lives including mine. It is fantastic she is getting this recognition as she is the last person on earth who would want to be identified, it is not why she does what she does . It is awesome to see her get embarrassed about being noticed as she will try and deflect all the credit . Jody is indeed a life changer !

Jody makes the teachers she works with feel like they mean something. In today's world, that goes a long way. Thank you Jody for your help and encouragement.

Ms. Allison makes everyone feel special and valued. She does not make anyone feel as though their questions are not important or that their needs do not matter. As a new teacher at GMA, Ms. Allison takes time to check in on me, to ask my input about topics and to lift me up when I am feeling a bit down. Ms. Allison has a spring in her step, an amazing smile and uses interactive activities at meetings to keep us engaged. I appreciate all that she does for our school and our community!

There are not adequate words to describe the impact Jody has made on my life. Professionally, she is always available when we need her. She goes out of her way to make sure that I, my team, and my students feel supported and valued. When she hears positive news, she is the first to come by and provide praise to whomever has earned it. Personally, Jody can be the calm in a storm. She is always one of the first people to notice when something isn't quite right. She reaches out and cares for others, even when her own life isn't exactly solid. I have encouraging post cards from her both at home and in my classroom that she has sent me over the years. Overall, Jody is the most amazing and deserving person I know!

Jody is amazing, kind, positive, and reliable! She is a quiet supporter and the loudest cheerleader. Making teacher professional development fun is not an easy task, but Jody manages it, giving us flexibility, choice, a wide range of activities, and support throughout the process. Jody was a supportive mentor for me as a first year teacher, and had the perfect balance between checking I was ok and being supported, and giving me the space to teach and build my Chorus program. Jody is always genuinely concerned for our wellbeing as teachers, and will do anything to help us be the best that we can be. Jody Allison Rocks!

Jody is one of kind...truly! She has a smile on her face every single day, no matter in how many directions she is pulled. She checks in on teachers and students regurlary and offers support to every teacher. She finds the positive in every situation and can be counted on whenever she is called upon. Jody makes our required professional developments fun, engaging and relevant to what we teach. She is an exceptional colleague, an incredible mentor, and an irreplacable friend. I don't know how she does it all with such grace, but she makes it look easy. I have learned so much from Jody and look forward to learning even more in upcoming years. Jody, no one deserves this award more, You have changed so many lives in ways you don't even realize and we are so blessed to have you as our instructional coach. Keep SHINING!!!
