Music that Describes Tonya
Tonya Lloyd was nominated by her principal, Lisa Hamblen.
For over 30 years, children have had the pleasure of learning "There are no mistakes in art!" from Ms. Lloyd. Twenty-five of those years have been dedicated to serving the children of Havard Elementary in Galena Park ISD. As an art educator, Ms. Lloyd uplifts the students in her classroom to be the best they can be. She has significantly impacted countless students and their families by providing quality art education. In fact, some of her current students' parents were students of hers, as well.
"She is one of the most passionate, hard-working, thoughtful, and child-centered teachers I have ever met, and she is truly an asset to our school community," said Hamblen.
As an educator, her highest priority is serving her students' needs. Each area of her classroom space is designed to accommodate her students' artistic needs and wishes and encourage meaningful art-making. Instead of seeing the challenges of the ever-transitioning educational system as frustrating or obstacles, she embraces them, learns from them, and adapts her curriculum and instructional methods without compromising her values and students' needs. As a result, students have received numerous awards for their art. Ms. Lloyd is a remarkable and inspiring individual who deserves recognition for her dedication to her students, her passion for art education, and her creative ability to find the beauty in all art that makes us all feel like Picasso.
At Havard, Ms. Lloyd has consistently shown strong leadership qualities. Her pleasant demeanor and sunny personality make her a joy to be around. She serves on numerous committees and works to improve all facets of her school.
"Tonya is also one of the most supportive colleagues I have encountered in my profession," said Hamblen. "She is consistently willing to sacrifice her time to help and support her colleagues when needed. She is a role model, not just for me, but for an untold number of my colleagues and countless children who have had the honor of being in her classroom."
"Even though Ms. Lloyd is one of the most committed teachers I have ever met, she is also an amazing wife and mother to three boys," said Hamblen. "Her dedication to education is nothing compared to her love for her family. When she is not at school, she can be found at football games, softball games, and other events cheering for her children."
"One rarely meets a person who has made such a lasting impact on the lives of others, but Ms. Lloyd is clearly one of them. She is truly a LifeChanger," said Hamblen.
Mrs. Lloyd has been an amazing art teacher from teaching myself and now my child!! She has truly shown love for teaching for what she loves best!! Her smile and cheerful attitude has been unnoticeable for years!!!! Mrs. Lloyd is simply the best!!!!!!

Mrs.Lloyd is an amazing educator. I've had the pleasure of working with her for four years. Her energy is felt throughout the entire campus. She's so creative in many ways and because of that her students believe that they can achieve at their highest. My students are so excited and enthusiastic to go to Mrs.Lloyd's art class.It's also amazing on how she instructs in ways that enhance the visual arts.

Tonya / Mrs Lloyd is a person I consider to be a perfect example of what Jesus instructed us to be as humans. She has a heart of Gold and lights up any room with her gorgeous smile. I remember my students were thrilled on days they had art because she knew exactly how to make learning fun. It was an honor to have her teach and love my own kids as well. She has and will continue to make a posit difference in everyone she meets. She is a true hero in her own home and in the educational aspect.
Tonya was one of the first people I met when I started my first year of teaching and we were classroom neighbors. I can still see her wearing a pair of overalls, pregnant with her 3rd child and setting up her room for the school year. I could tell immediately from her warm and welcoming personality that she was a woman of great character and someone that would be a role model for me. Throughout my 6 years of teaching, Tonya was a constant source of support with invaluable advice for me as a sister in Christ, a new wife, a new mom, and an educator. I was honored to be taken under her wing and to learn many lessons from her even though we taught different ages and subjects. Life isn’t easy, but Tonya handles every trial as a way to let her faith shine. I’m so thrilled that although we haven’t taught together for many years, we still keep in touch and I look up to her with the upmost respect. I am so blessed by her friendship. She has definitely changed my life, and I know she has changed the lives of countless students, colleagues, and friends for the better.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Tonya for 22 years and she always has a smile and such a positive attitude. She is an amazing teacher and friend to everyone. All of her students and coworkers are so lucky to have her. I personally am so grateful because she goes above and beyond to help me with Bilingual projects and gives it all her dedication and time! She simply has the kindest heart and is genuinely loving!
Ms. Lloyd is not only a great teacher, but a beautiful person inside and out. I have never crossed her path without receiving a genuine smile and considerate conversation from her. Ms. Tonya Lloyd is an extraodinary educator inside and out. She is very attentive to details, shows fondness for her students, and creates a deep love for her subject material. Ms. Lloyd is truly a life changer in our community. The joy students receive when finding out they are going to art for the day is really something special. Ms. Lloyd gives students the encouragement and courage to try new things in their art and always makes every student feel unique and special. As a coworker I can always count on Ms. Lloyd to smile and build her coworkers up with positive comments and encouragement. Ms. Lloyd is someone who gives 110%, no matter the situation, because she holds so much value to her role as an educator and the students she interacts with daily. I continue to learn so much from her and I feel blessed to be able to work along side with her at Havard Elementary.

Ms. Lloyd is a great teacher who brings the best out her students. I was amazed at some of the art work the students did and would win art competitions. I know for sure some will grow to be great artists. My children did enjoy being in her class and do miss her. I still have the art work they did still hanging on my walls. Ms. Loyd is such an amazing teacher. She inspires her students day in and out. She is a wonderful art teacher and she does amazing things with the students. They all love her and every time they come back to class they are excited after art and full of artistic juices flowing. I love to see their creations and they love to show them to me. Ms. Loyd is a great educator and mentor as well.
There is no better person to have in your corner than Tonya Lloyd. She has been a wonderful mentor and colleague for as long as I have known her. The transition from freelance musician to elementary classroom teacher was a sudden and jarring one for me that came at a very difficult time in my life. I felt alone, thoroughly confused, and had no idea where to even begin. By the grace of G-d, I was assigned Tonya Lloyd as my mentor teacher in my first year of teaching. I immediately observed her firm, but gentle, nature with the students. When confronted with matters amongst colleagues, she was very to the point, honest, and always remained neutral and professional. As a result, she maintains a great rapport with everyone. With her mentorship, I was able to find pathways that would help link my career as a teacher along with my career as a freelance musician. This greatly helped me facilitate my ability to become an effective educator. She has built my confidence with her constant support and encouragement. On the rare occasion that she’s not been able to answer my questions, she has always sought out the proper channels to find answers and keep me informed. Because she is an effective communicator, I have a clear understanding of my role as a special enrichment teacher. Mrs. Lloyd has even taken time outside of school to help when my car wouldn’t start, as well as advising me on other personal matters that I was unsure of how to resolve. I truly believe I would not have managed my first year so successfully without her mentorship, empathy, and friendship. She isn't just a life changer, she's a life saver and I'm eternally grateful to have her influence in my life.

I have had the opportunity to work with Mrs. Lloyd for a number of years and I have never seen her passion and commitment to our students wane in the least. She has helped hundreds if not thousands of students throughout her teaching career, develop an appreciation and talent for art. It is her passion, and it is undeniable. She is an amazing teacher and an awesome person!

Over the last 11 years I have observed what an amazing impact Mrs. Lloyd has created for both the Havard Community and at home. There are things that she has had to deal with that nobody should have to face and she has overcome those extreme difficulties. Year after year, her students win those Rodeo Art Awards. Her students have also garnered other awards. Additionally, she has a poignant ability to understand how to reach students with special needs. She has been at Havard Elementary since its beginning. I wish that when I had gone to school that Mrs. Lloyd could have been my Art Teacher!
Ms. Lloyd and I met when our school, Havard Elementary, was built and are a part of the original staff. She made our school feel like a special place for kids by painting pictures in all the halls, the cafeteria, and the office. Her artwork still puts a smile on our faces every day!
The kids absolutely love art class. They proudly show me their creations while Ms. Lloyd praises their different styles. My own daughters have fond memories of art with Ms. Lloyd too (15+ years later!)
Mrs. Lloyd has always been such a kind, spirited leader at Havard. My twins love having her as an art teacher and she has inspired my daughter to start painting and creating her own art. We are so grateful to know her
