Music that Describes Ann

Ann Sullivan was nominated by her colleague, Maxine Pare.

"Miss Sullivan's commitment to students in our school is present in many of the programs she has implemented and orchestrates," explains Pare.

Because of her desire to teach students self-regulation and boundaries, there is a My Body My Space program that provides age-appropriate components of personal space, personal safety, and internet safety.
Miss Sullivan also initiated her school's Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) and the Student Intervention Team (SIT). Both programs have contributed to students being successful at increasing their Emotional Quotient by improving their social skills and developing empathy, both of which build relationships.

Miss Sullivan has initiated food and clothing drives for students throughout the entire district. She frequently shops for incidentals for students needing hair brushes/combs, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, housing, transportation, and healthcare.

Miss Sullivan leads staff workshops to develop problem-solving skills for both district employees and students. She provides Safety Care Training, a de-escalation technique for out-of-control behaviors in students, and she encourages students to use critical thinking to resolve differences with their peers.

Miss Sullivan does not hesitate to contact Child Protective Services for students living in unsafe situations. She frequently visits parents to provide support, supplies, and training to improve parenting skills.

"Whether she is eating lunch with a group of students, mentoring a colleague, addressing social/emotional development, waiting out a child with a behavior issue (sometimes for hours), or training staff members, Miss Sullivan is outwardly calm," said Pare. "She sets the tone for the entire building."
