Music that Describes Sandi

Sandi Helm was nominated by Julie West, her colleague.

"In our world that is beginning to celebrate strong, astonishing women, today is the day to stop and celebrate a special one, Sandi," said West. "Sandi is a one-of-a-kind counselor. The phrase, 'you have a friend in me,' comes to mind. She is truly a friend to all she meets."

In the education field, it is sometimes rare to find one who intensively listens to students and teachers without rushing. Ms. Helm finds time to slow down and hear the person with which she is conversing. She travels to solutions quickly and finds the positive in others. She arrives early and stays late to complete a plate full of paperwork and focus on students and their needs.

"Our Title I district has some heartbreaking SEL children," said West. "They require so much support. Often it is a basic need of hunger, clothing, or just a simple hug that makes the difference in her work. Sandi focuses on the task at hand daily. I notice she even asks to support more in areas of need."

Although she sometimes might have some difficulties in her personal life, she exudes non-stop joy in her work.

"Sandi's smile never fades and is contagious to others. One will never see Sandi without a smile on her face," said West.

She has a heart for children and people in general. One example that comes to mind is checking on kids in the morning and throughout the day. Ms. Helm supports and listens to problems before the day begins. Many school counselors find the day daunting and full of heaviness. Ms. Helm's servant heart is mission-oriented at Terrell ISD. Her light shines so brightly daily. Ms. Helm knows her focus is on students, but she also cares deeply about each teacher. She finds time to often check on them as well as ways in which to celebrate accomplishments.

"She is that ear that listens and the heart that is full of love every day," explains West. "There is no task that is too big or too small for Sandi to accomplish. She will never realize the daily impact of her never leaving people in need of support. She is just an overall genuine person. Qualities of loyalty, trustworthiness, and dedication are just some of the ideal counselors' qualities. Sandi has every one of these qualities and more. Her dream has always been to be a counselor, and she is one amazing woman. It is an honor to nominate such a valuable educator."

Ms. Helm is one of a kind. You can feel her love for you before she says it. She is a blessing to ALL of those who she cross path with. She is an excellent listener. When she embraces you, you can feel those things you were carrying just fade away. Ms. Helm is a woman of many hats and she wears them very well.

few people are born with the innate talent that she possesses, the way she does it day by day is indescribable, unquestionably she is the best, we thank the universe and goodbye for this great woman who blesses our days with her great smile and support... There are not enough kind things to say about Sandi Helm. She is the personification of sunshine and makes the world a better place. As a co-worker she is there no matter what the need is. She will support you, cheer you on, cry with you, and laugh with you. Her presence in the school is felt daily by staff and students. She brings a warmth to the building. As a friend, Sandi is the only person I want or need in my corner. She makes you feel like you matter. I adore Ms. Helm and I believe she is a lifechanger for sure.

Sandi is the best of the best! She is a genuine and joyful person. She is intentional in her relationships with students, teachers, and staff. She consistently shows up to check on people and listens to each person's needs. She sees each person's needs and fights to get them what they need. She is a true gem and a blessing to all.
