LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Jennifer Adams was nominated by her colleague, Rachelle Sears.

"It has been my privilege to work with Jennifer Adams, and I would love to see her be the LifeChanger of the Year," said Sears. "I met Jen a few years ago when we were on the same committee called, 'Child Study Team' or 'TAT' (Teacher Assisting Teachers). Later in 2021-22, Jen gave away much of her Kindergarten materials because she was moving on to teach first grade. I got to see what an amazing teacher Jen is, from being on a committee with her to being lucky to receive her teaching materials. While on the Child Study Team, she made clear, helpful PowerPoint slides explaining what the CST role is. This was very helpful and well done!  She provided support and useful suggestions to teachers looking for ways to help students. I admire her leadership on the committee."

"In addition, I learned a lot about Jen Adams when looking over all the teaching materials she gave me," said Sears. "I could see how great of a Kindergarten teacher she was with all of the phonemic awareness activities, which are her solid methods in teaching spelling. She had a variety of ways to support her students with learning sounds and mastering high frequency words. She must have spent a lot of her own money and time to make all of the activities for her students to use. I know they left her with the gift of reading and writing. One of the methods she used and still uses is the linguistic method, where words are taught in word families, or similar spelling patterns. She had tons of multi-sensory approach activities, too (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, tactile). Additionally, I loved her reading comprehension support activities.  Her students gained in-depth teaching in both math and reading. I loved using her colorful centers/stations activities.  Much of it I used while tutoring students.  Indirectly, she was making me a better teacher.  She is one of those teachers you come across once in a great while.  She is humble and hard-working.  Mrs. Adams has a great command of the tools teachers need to effectively teach.  Her math activities did not disappoint!"

"This year, I am fortunate to work with Jen Adams more, and I am enjoying watching her adherence to challenging students and providing meaningful guidance in their learning," said Sears.
