Constance Peterson was nominated by her county's economic development director, Helene Caseltine.

It's very apparent that Ms. Peterson adores her students, especially her eighth-graders transitioning into high school. She is very well-connected with the local business community. She prioritizes getting her students thinking about and preparing for life after high school, particularly future jobs and careers.

"As the Economic Development Director for our county, I've had the pleasure of working with Ms. Peterson over the years, introducing her to our business leaders, primarily those in the manufacturing industry," said Caseltine. "She has participated in numerous industry tours we've coordinated for our counselors and CTE instructors so she can bring back information to her students about the various manufacturing jobs available locally. This information gives her students a 'leg up' when deciding which classes to select once they enter high school in preparation for these jobs."

As we have seen, today's job market is ever-changing, and the jobs of the future might not be created or even considered as yet. However, today's students must be prepared, as they are our future workforce. Developing that "pipeline" of future workers is critical to a community's sustainability and growth. Ms. Peterson plays a huge role in accomplishing this in her local area.

Recently, Ms. Peterson coordinated a Career Fair for her 8th-grade students, with participation from 47 employers in her county, including banks, manufacturers, hospitality reps, non-profits, and local law enforcement. It was a huge success!

"Connie is the embodiment of this Award, giving her heart and soul to her students, ultimately making our community even better," said Caseltine.
