Music that Describes Donald

Donald Wesley was nominated by his colleague and assistant principal, Nikki Robinson.

"I have known Mr. Wesley for well over 25 years, both professionally and personally," said Robinson. "Everything is in order, from his office to how he conducts himself in the school. But with that said, I have not seen a more dedicated man to his calling of husband, father, mentor, friend, and educator."

Mr. Wesley is a 1990 graduate of Navasota High and a four-sport letter winner. He is the father of two fine young men, Jhealan and Trajan Wesley. Mr. Wesley gives all of himself to his work because he feels the calling to give back to the community that gave so much to him. Every day, Mr. Wesley wears the professional hats of associate principal, campus behavior coordinator, truancy officer, and mentor in the office. He works with kids to make sure they are the best they can be.

He works with organizations to help with local scholarships, such as organizing participants in fundraisers. Mr. Wesley also gets others to donate time and money to the senior citizens' homes to give them socks, plus love and attention. He can often be seen at local little league games and the little dribblers program, again going back to what got him started on his education path.

"There are countless things that I can say, but he is so private that I will respect his privacy. But I can say that regardless of his personal struggles and hardships, he has always been there for the students and teachers of Navasota High school. Mr. Wesley has made me and countless others better because of his dedication and professionalism. Navasota High school is what it is, and the community of Navasota is better because of Mr. Donald Wesley being here and being an example to countless youth. It is my honor and pleasure to nominate Mr. Donald Ray Wesley for this LifeChanger of the Year award because he changes lives every day," said Robinson.

Donald Wesley was my favorite off season coach when I was playing Basketball for the Lady Rattlers JV Team. He also inspired me as a student to never give up on my dreams and he even help me reach my full potential in finishing high school and also his words of encouragement motivated me to go back to school during COVID. Coach Wesley Is the epitome of what a life changer should be and he definitely deserves this award because he is still changing lives for the better..

Donald Wesley was my student, my peer as a teacher and coach at Navasota and ended up being my principal. Through all these stages his character never changed. Kind, caring to all, disciplined, I could always depend on him to do the right thing. He also strove to be the best and held that same high standard for those around him. He was a leader, participating and lettering in 4 sports at Navasota High School, then returned to his alma mater to lead the students by example as their coach, teacher, principal and mentor. I know firsthand - spanning 30 years- that Donald Wesley is most deserving of the Lifechanger award and there are hundreds of students to back this belief up.

I am so proud of you nephew. TASSP Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year 2022. You are so selfless and has given back in so many ways over the years both inside of your profession with the Monica Wesley Memorial Scholarship and outside of your profession through community services such as Feed the Homeless, Houston Food Bank, Keep Grimes County Beautiful, and Mentorship with Unleashing Potential, Inc. There are many other things that I can mention but I am just so glad that your work is not going unnoticed. Again, I’m so proud of you.

I was a few years behind Donald in school, and my dad was his high school coach. Donald is a guy you never heard a single person say anything negative about. Salt of the earth. He worked hard at everything he did, he had a great attitude, he was a great teammate and leader, he was always solid and dependable, and he was just the best guy on and off the field/court. I loved that he went back to his hometown after getting his degree because he wanted to give back to the community that raised him. He's a guy who has always risen above any circumstance. He's been a great model for as long as I've known him and has impacted countless lives.

R-remind everyone in their everyday life, that life can be challenging but you have the power to change lives for yourself and others. I’ve known Donald Wesley for close to 40 years. The thing that is so incredible about Donald is that he never let circumstances define him. I could tell countless stories of perseverance from being on the B team in JH to losing his wife to cancer as an adult. He has never allowed and negative circumstances to define him. He is the best example in Navasota of just keep doing the right thing and eventually everything will work itself out. Donald is such a good role model for all.

It's been a Blessing to have Donald Ray as my Baby Brother. His attributes were clear to me from childhood. He was small in statue but his determination, drive and leadership skills along with his God given athletic abilities were undeniable.I am and will always be Proud of him and Anyone who has met him and had a conversation with him would tell you that he's Genuine. In the face of adversary, losing his wife, Monica, with the help of his Family, he raised his two sons with such Grace and Dignity. Being in Education along with his winning Personality, he would be successful wherever he went but to chose to stay in the community where he was raised speaks volumes about his character. In these times where Our Teachers are under paid and sometimes under Appreciated I am Proud to see him nominated for this award recognizing him as the Life Changer that he is. As a Veteran, I Salute My Brother and all Teachers for your dedication to see that Our most Precious resource,Our kids, receive an Education.

I came to know Mr. Westley while, I was attending my daughter’s volleyball game in Navasota, High school 6 years ago. We were on opposite team each other. As an educator myself, What stood out about Mr. Westley he encourages and support not only Navasota student’s but other local students from surrounding areas of Brazos Valley. He’s a great mentor, wonderful man that has influence children to take the right rode regardless who they are, where they come from. I’m proud to cast my vote for Mr. Westley. “What God has for you, it’s for you.”

Charlene Woodard Posted over a year ago

I had the opportunity to have Mr. Wesley as my coach in high school for basketball and track. He was well respected then as he is now because of the his work ethic and all he does for his students and community. Now, my daughter is in High School going into her Sophomore year. Well, I have had many opportunities to talk with Mr. Wesley about her and each time; he was very professional, honest and supportive. When winter break was over, it was felt nice to get a compliment about how much her behavior has changed and he was very proud of her. He always encouraged her to do her best, see her full potential and told her she can do anything she sets her mind on to do. I always told her, you can always tell the teachers/principles that are there for the students by the way they teach you and those thelat constantly are encouraging you to do your best. Mr. Wesley has done just that and I think him!!

I have had the pleasure of working with / along side Donald for the past three years. Without a doubt, he is one of the most mindful and compassionate people that I know. His heart is for the kids of our school and community. While he holds high standards and expectations for them, he goes above and beyond to see that they are successful, first in life as well as in academics. I can’t say enough that I don’t know anyone more deserving of this recognition and hope that he receives the due diligence he so much deserves.

My name is Ruth Mooney and I’ am another Aunt of Ray Wesley. I’m so proud of him and how he’s lived his life. He was always serious about his classes. As he was growing up he was always pleasant and just a good child. He fell in love with sports, especially football and excelled in the game. Ray became a single parent at an early age. He’s raised to boys by himself that are just like him. I want to wish him well as he continues to go forward in his life.

What an awesome nomination! I find it hard to call Mr. Wesley anything other than Coach because he was one of my High School track coaches. He had such an impact on our training, development and successes in not just our own individual events, but as a truly bonded team that succeeded far above the expectations the community had for us. It has been amazing to see the things he has accomplished on his journey and the good he has brought to the community in the past 25 years.

He was married to my daughter Monica Wesley who passed away in 2007. They have two young men and a granddaughter who he takes great pride in making sure they are traveling down the right path and his favorite message to them as well as other children is, “It’s ok not to know all the answers. They will come to you when you least expect it”. He’s always helping people out even if he don’t know them. He loves his family as well as his job! Thank you for being a Super Hero!

I have known Donald since he was a student in elementary school. I have watched him grow and become the man that he is today. If someone asked me what is Donald’s identity? I could say he was a great athlete. I could say he was a hard worker. I could say he was a self made man. I could say he was a family man. I could say he was loved by so many. These would all be true, more importantly he is a man who is a Christian who possesses high morals and Christian values. When I coached at Navasota, Donald was not only the heart beat of the teams he played on, but of the entire athletic program. Countless young people wanted to be like him. He made a difference in so many lives as a high school athlete. He continued doing that as a coach, teacher, and school administrator. Today, Donald is a tremendous example and role model for the students at Navasota H.S. He is looked up to by not only students but teachers as well as administrators. Many young people have been inspired by Donald because Donald made it thru faith and hard work and they saw that. I love Donald Wesley. To me he represents all that is good in the human race. He deserves this award because as I have told him many times, “you are the man.”
