April Price was nominated by her colleague, Elizabeth Hilliard.

"April demonstrates the true meaning of being a LifeChanger! She has been the school nurse at Pocomoke High School for 15 years," explains Hilliard.

Pocomoke is a very small community located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and has a majority of students who live below the poverty line. As the nurse, Ms. Price has tended to way more than many nurses have to do in their school nursing career, whether it be a medical need, personal need, or just a listening ear. She is always there for students and cares for them as if they were her own children. She makes sure the students at PHS are healthy, both physically and mentally. Ms. Price has a great rapport with students. They trust her, especially if they find themselves struggling to find a caring adult.

"Not only does April care for the students, but she also helps many of the adults at Pocomoke High School," explains Hilliard. "I have personally been a benefactor of her nursing skills. I had a heart attack in 2014, and April made certain that I went to the doctor. She also provided follow-up care while I was at home for six weeks. She is always on hand to help the administration at our school with extra activities for the students."

Throughout the last two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Price has helped establish appropriate protocols to lower the number of students and staff who have been affected by COVID. She has continued to coordinate with the local health department and the Board of Education to ensure the safety of every individual in her building, as well as outreach to community members, all while still doing the many tasks required of a school nurse.

"The Pocomoke community and Pocomoke High School are very appreciative and grateful for all that April does every single day," said Hilliard. "April is a true LifeChanger!"

April is such a warm and beautiful person. I rely on her when I have questions. She has helped me in many different ways. She is true and transparent. Most times she is the calm during a storm. Her calm voice and demeanor is enough to ease anyone’s anxieties.

April is a blessing and a Life Changer for our Pocomoke High Schools students and staff! She is proactive and reactive when needed. She educates, supports and is an encouragement to all. Having April Price as our nurse gives me a sense of comfort and peace, not only as a parent of PHS but as an educator as well. #LCOY

April has truly been a life changer! She recognized that I was in labor before I did and insisted that I go to the hospital. Because of her insistence on going to the doctor - my baby was able to get the medical care needed and is alive today! There was another, time two years later, when she supported me and helped me when I had a miscarriage at school. She is a friend and a person that I can rely on when I need her. Thank you April - you mean so much!

April is so deserving of this nomination because she is one of the most caring and compassionate people I know. She is a mentor to our students and a friend to her co-workers. Although Covid-19 created extra stress some days, April stayed up to date on our guidelines which helped keep our school Covid free as much as possible. She cares so much about each student and staff member at Pocomoke High School! She is always ready to listen to your concerns and offer her most caring advice. I love that about her!! Our students love talking to her and I personally know how much she loves them because I have heard her say it on many occasions. The students and staff at Pocomoke High School are very fortunate to have April as our nurse, mentor and friend!#LCOY

Nurse Price is truly deserving of this recognition. April works tirelessly behind the scenes caring for our students at Pocomoke High School. All of our lives changed over the last two years with COVID, and April has been instrumental in coordinating health care for students above and beyond her typical daily duties. She coordinated efforts between the health department, board of education and families to ensure the health and well being of our school family. She worked with our athletic trainer to coordinate testing for our student-athletes as well. April is a team player whose first response when asked is always, How can I help? April treats our students as if they were her own. She is caring, and a true advocate for our kids who need her. Congratulations April! You truly are a Life Changer and we certainly appreciate you more than you realize!????
