Marvin Rice was nominated by an anonymous colleague.
"It is with great pleasure that I nominate Marvin Rice for the LifeChanger of the Year award," explains his nominator. "Mr. Rice is a fantastic educator. In a short period, he has impressed many staff members, especially our students. During this challenging time adjusting to the pandemic, we have observed Mr. Rice be patient, kind, and passionate about teaching our students how to self-advocate and give their best each day."
Mr. Rice is dedicated to teaching and learning. He leads by example by ensuring students do not sit idle when in the office. He tutors students every chance he gets. His track record of success is exemplified in his 16 years of classroom teaching and additional years as an instructional coach.
"We are grateful that Mr. Rice decided to return to the school where he spent most of his teaching career as a leader," said his nominator.
Mr. Rice demonstrates being a lifelong learner. He seeks out professional development opportunities, and he constantly researches and employs instructional methods that intrigue staff and inspire scholars. When supporting stakeholders, he offers sound advice and has unique ways to tune in to the families. Mr. Rice is proactive in gathering data and evidence of student learning to share in meetings.
"He takes the time to build a sense of community in our learning environment by helping to establish norms and routines. The students love Mr. Rice most because he acknowledges their individuality and purposefully addresses their needs. He is an exceptional educator that impacts your life like no other. We are wholeheartedly convinced that he deserves this honor," said the nominator.

Mr. Rice is a man of integrity. He speaks life into people. He's always rooting for you. I watched him for years before students walked into his classroom, quote an affirmation he taught them. Rice gives his all to the people he is called to lead. And whenever I'm around him, I am reminded that I can conquer my fears.

Mr. Rice!!! My fourth grade teacher, one I will NEVER forget! Over 20 years and I still remember his lessons, the way he noticed and cared for us all. I’m speaking for multiple people in that same fourth grade class. Whenever we got together and reminisced one teacher that we always talked about was Mr. Rice. He never judged, never looked down on us but always helped us and made sure we made it to the next level. The importance of education and staying in school always came up, even in the most difficult of times. I am so grateful to have encountered him and be taught by him. Mr. Rice is definitely one to always remember and is leaving a POWERFUL legacy. Thank you Mr. Rice ??
I met Marvin a little over ten years ago at the Leadership and Racism Institute. We were attending the three-day intensive workshop with teachers from all over St. Louis. I can't tell you exactly what it was that drew me to him immediately, but he stood out from everyone else. His smile is incredibly inviting, but there was a magical presence that went deeper. When he spoke, he commanded attention in a firm, yet gentle way. He is a natural orator and his wisdom is well beyond his years. Marvin and I both grew and learned together that weekend, and even though we don't get to see each other on a regular basis, I know we can still rely on each other for support. Out of the blue, on the most challenging days, I will get a message of inspiration from Marvin, just when I needed it most. It's as if he can sense that his friends are needing that push to keep on keeping on. He has taught me to be forgiving, open, and selfless. He has taught me that we are all a work in progress and we need to forgive ourselves and others. Marvin is the essence of leadership and grace. I always know I can rely on Marvin for support at the drop of a hat. We can bounce ideas off each other in a safe and honest way. Marvin is so deserving of this honor and I know that he has forever changed my life in the most honest and supportive way. I am grateful to my dear friend, Marvin Rice.

I met Mr. Rice a few years ago. He was one of the most influential staff members we had. He would stop by our classroom and speak every single day. It really made our day start off positively. Mr. Rice is also knowledgeable and data driven. He has a wealth of knowledge and resources and he shares them all. Our PLC meetings literally changed with his leadership and guidance. I am so proud of Mr. Rice’s nomination he deserves every rose he receives.

Mr. Rice, or Rice, as I call him, is a passionate, do whatever it takes, and dedidicated educator who loves children with all his heart. It has been a pleasure working with alongside him in educating our youth.
Marvin is an amazing and dedicated educational leader. He is focused on students receiving an excellent learning experience and supporting teachers in making that happen.
