Mariah Watts was nominated by an anonymous member of the community.

"Ms. Watts is a fabulous, enthusiastic, and talented teacher. I have watched for the past few years as she works her 'teacher magic' to turn students who are reluctant learners into avid readers and mathematicians. Ms. Watts takes time beyond the school day to get to know her students, and I believe that is where her magic comes from," explains her nominator.

Whether she's stopping by a student's cheerleading event or rooting on a student at a football game, there is no doubt you will see Ms. Watts in the community throughout the year. Her effort in building student relationships, coupled with her steadfast encouragement and didactic teaching strategies, has turned even the most timid students into life-long learners.

Furthermore, Ms. Watts worked diligently to lead a team through the application process of a Disney Musicals in Schools grant. Through this, she was able to begin a cost-free musical program at her school. While there's no doubt she's a star in the classroom, she brings that stardom to another level when she's working after school with students on stage. Even during the pandemic, Ms. Watts has been able to produce popular musicals such as The Lion King and Aladdin. Watching students come into their own, find a creative outlet, and perform in front of huge, socially-distanced audiences has been the most touching experience.

"Mariah goes the extra mile and hasn't let a pandemic darken her light. Our students are so lucky to have her as their teacher and acting coach," said her nominator.

Having spent a great deal of time in this profession, I can with certainy say that Ms. Watts is one of a kind lifechanger. Not only is she an excellent teacher, she is one of the most consistent colleagues I have every had the pleasure of working with! Her classroom door is "open" to you at any time - whether for a question about contracts or teaching, requesting her help in support of a student, or someone to share a laugh or chuckle with. Mariah is always willing to help and is your fiercest defender when in support of meeting student and staff needs. I am glad that I have had the opportunity to meet and work alongside the lifechanging teacher.

Ms. Watts is an excellent caring teacher. I have spent a lot of time in her classroom. I see the interest and excitement for learning in her students daily. Her students are very trusting of her, they know that she is not only educating them, but she cares for each and everyone of them. Ms. Watts is helping them see the world out side of the classroom. The students are being taught even at their young ages they have the ability to positively or negetively affect the world in which they live! Well done Ms. Watts.

This nomination is so well deserved! Ms. Watts is a phenomenal teacher, who also goes above and beyond in planning school events and engaging families outside of the classroom. Mariah is an amazing teacher who I've had the honor of working with. Watching her is inspiring, mind-opening and and motivating. I have learned a lot from her as a fellow educator and as a friend. She is a true life changer!
