Bob Williams was nominated by a parent of a student, Jairol Gonzalez.

Gonzalez's son has Asperger's, and school has always been a challenge for him. Over fifteen weeks working with Professor Williams as his teacher, Gonzales's son has made tremendous progress.

"Professor Williams has not only gone the extra mile to help my son improve - he has gone the extra two miles," Gonzalez said. "My son quickly joined his classmates because of Professor Williams' assistance."

In previous school years, Gonzalez's son did not like school, but things are much different today. His son truly enjoys going to school every day and has had a perfect attendance record during the first trimester.

"The patience and dedication that Professor Williams has for his students has made a beneficial difference in the development of my son," Gonzalez said. "My son is now successful in school."

Mr. Williams creates a two-way communication system with parents to keep them informed and involved.

"Professor Williams has established procedures for my son to walk into the classroom every day and be consistent," Gonzalez said. "At dismissal, Professor Williams puts a checklist on my son's classroom desk to help him remember to put his homework in his backpack and clean his desk at a certain time so that he is ready to leave school."

Mr. Williams created a writing journal with different topics in it for Gonzalez's son to take home. Each night, Gonzalez works with his son, discussing the topic and then helping him write two paragraphs. Mr. Williams reads the writing journal aloud to the class the next day, and provides praise to Gonzalez's son.

"Professor Williams has really made a difference in my son's life," Gonzalez said.
