Music that Describes Kay

Kay Lancaster-Slay was nominated by her colleague, Arnold Cox.

"Kay oversees curriculum and instruction at CHS, to say the least. She came with me from a previous school where I was an assistant principal and she was the instructional coach," said Cox. "She did an outstanding job in that capacity, and I fully recognized her skill set and always told her I would take her with me when I got a principalship. Since we came to CHS, which was a struggling school, she has made great strides to put programs and interventions in place that will  increase student achievement."

Ms. Lancaster-Slay brought in ACT prep experts, boot camps, and after-school and weekend tutoring sessions. She's definitely changing lives in the two short years she has been at CHS! She has also put in a K-12 A+ College Ready curriculum in place for students in grades 6-8, and she'll be adding students in grades 9-12 during this school year.

"Finally she has assisted me in carrying out the Transformation Academy and Deep Dive from the Alabama State Department of Education in order to institute a school-wide initiative for teaching and learning along with providing high quality professional development for her faculty," said Cox.

Kay Lancaster-Slay is a hard working dedicated educator who has dedicated her life to what she enjoys. She never complain, she never give up. She is the problem solver of a problem when it appears to be no solution; she’s a way maker when it may seem as if there is no way. Lastly, she is a life changer who has made a difference in the lives of students and her collages.

Mrs. Slay deserves this 100%! She gives so much of her time with love to her staff and students. Anytime we need something she goes out of her way, no matter the challenges, to get it done. She is always on the move and helps out in all areas of the school. It is an honor to work for her.

Mrs. Slay has made a difference in changing atmosphere within this school. Brining in new technology to improve test scores. With her on this campus, there nowhere to go but UP.

Kay Lancaster-Slay is one of the hardest working people I have ever met and she truly has a heart for education. She cares about doing the right thing, always, and making sure students and staff alike feel supported. She is very deserving of this recognition!

Kay Lancaster-Slay is one of the hardest working educators I’ve worked with in my 17 years in education. Her willingness to find solutions in impossible situations are unmatched. She literally works around the clock at Chickasaw for the students and faculty. She loves her job and her commitment to excellence is unwavering.

I concur with Mr. Cox. She has done amazing things for the students, faculty, and staff. She works countless hours on everyone's behalf. We all often wonder if she ever eats or sleeps. Hardworking is an understatement for describing her drive and motivation for excellence. She is P.R.I.D.E., our school's acronym for success.
