LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Lonnie Davis  was nominated by Tiffany Lange, the parent of one of his students.

Mr. Davis has worked with Lange's daughter, Jordan, for several years in the dance world. She first took his class when she was ten years old, and she grew under his structured and serious tutelage. Mr. Davis is the one dance teacher that inspired and encouraged her to pursue dance as a profession.

At the age of ten, Jordan took his advice to go see Alvin Ailey Dance perform. As she left the performance, she said, 'Mom, that's why Mr. Lonnie pushes me so hard. He thinks I can do that.'"

Those lessons stuck with Jordan in the following years, until she was reunited with Mr. Davis at Pebblebrook High School, where he serves as an adjunct faculty member.

For the past two years, Mr. Davis has pushed Jordan to become a better dancer than she ever thought she could be. He has become her mentor in every way. He regularly teaches her and shows her ways to maintain a good mental outlook. In eighth grade, Jordan wrote an essay about Mr. Davis' impact on her life. He has had the greatest impact on her professional goals and personal well-being.
