LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Kristen Rekow was nominated by one of her students.

"Since my sophomore year, Mrs. Rekow's class has been a safe space for me. I'm not able to say that about many of my other classes during my school career," said the student. "I know I'm always welcome in her classroom. She is one of my trusted adults who I've gone to for help. She makes my peers and I laugh and has been a light during the pandemic."

"In our school, she helped the Falcon's Nest preschool get up and running. She shows older students how to help out with the younger kids in the preschool, and she's a positive and kind figure to the younger students," said the nominator. "I don't know if I'd enjoy being a preschool TA as much if Mrs. Rekow wasn't the teacher. She has always been there to help me when I needed it, especially during remote learning last school year. She made sure I was maintaining an A the whole year and consistently checked in with me. Many of her students would agree that she's a fantastic teacher who bonds with students. I absolutely believe she has helped produce a nurturing atmosphere in the Falcon's Nest preschool. Whenever she walks in, the preschoolers are excited and happy to see her, always saying 'It's Ms. Kristen!' She checks in with them to see how they're doing and lets them know she's happy to see them. Mrs. Rekow helps with conflict and makes sure students are doing well."
