When I first met Lisa in college, she was FOCUSED on her goals for the future. She is a compassionate and caring woman who makes the world a better place. The world needs more people like Lisa.

My daughter Lisa was a wonderful and responsible child growing up. She was always mature beyond her years. Even as a child, she always loved to helped her sisters and her parents or anyone that needed help. As I reflect upon her childhood and the Life Changer nomination, it really is indicative of the kind of person Lisa was as a child and really is now as an adult. She's sincere, respectful, hard-working, self-motivated and unselfish. Additionally, Lisa is an exceptional daughter, wife, sibling, aunt, mother and person. Lisa truly has the heart of a servant and it makes me extremely proud as her dad that she's being considered for this award. It gives me great pleasure to know that Lisa is being considered for such a prestigious honor. She is definitely a difference maker and a life changer.

With the state of the world being what it is today, I am proud to say that Lisa Forney is a person that has compassion and cares about others. Mrs. Forney is not part of the "What About Me" generation. I want to say two words, "Thank You."

Lisa Forney and I attended the same church in Katy, Texas along with her husband and daughter. I admire her efforts in reaching out to Hurricane Harvey victims by supplying food and essential items to the families that were affected by the devastating flood. She exemplifies what a true Christian really is. And, as an Assistant Principal in one of the best school districts in Houston/Katy along with being a wife and mother she still unselfishly takes time out of her overwhelming schedule to help others. Now that is a true hero. God bless you Lisa.

Kim D. Law Posted over a year ago

Lisa Forney is a HERO, she used her amazing organizational skills and love for her staff, students & their familes, to formulate a plan to help many others after hurricane Harvey wreaked destruction over the area! My deepest respect and accolades go out to her, and to those who assisted in carrying out the plan. May Lisa Forney and all who were affected by hurricane Harvey and all who helped others, be blessed! Kim Law, Volunteer in KISD schools

Mrs. Lisa Forney has by far been the best assistant principal I’ve ever worked for, even if it was for a short while. From the moment I began to work at the school, she made me feel like I was a part of a family. She made me feel like I could take on anything (even tho I honestly didn’t know what I was doing). Even after she left and was no longer my a.p., she was still available for any support I needed, whether it was professional or personal. Mrs. Lisa Forney by far deserves this award.

Mrs. Forney has gone above and beyond to show her students and CJH family that she loves us. From years of building the character of her students to countless hours of sharing her love with everyone at CJH, Mrs. Forney has changed the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of people for the better. She deserves this! Congratulations!

Mrs. Forney is definitely a Proverbs 31 woman! She is tireless in her efforts to meet the needs of others. From my experiences as an educator, I would put her at the top of my list among administrators. She is FIRM yet FAIR in every circumstance. Mrs. Forney possesses the unique ability to get beyond the surface to the real issue and then bring all of the sides together with a satisfying resolution. I appreciate her and all that she brings into every encounter - Faith, Fairness and Friendship.

Shari Francois Posted over a year ago

Although I've not had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Forney, I have participated in a fundraiser for her teenage daughter --who by the way--has her own foundation that helps children/families in need. Common sense and wisdom says "giving/doing for others when they need it most" is a common thread running through this family. I would also have to conclude that "giving" started with Mrs. Forney and has heavily influenced her child. That said, it's great to be a positive example outside of your home. But when your child sees the benefit of your goodness and wants to do what you do as a parent, it just doesn't get any better than that. In my book, Mrs. Forney's already a winner ....so just hand her the award! She earned it!!

Mrs. Forney is the epitome of a ln extraordinary leader. Mrs Forney is the first person to ask if everything is okay with her teachers, lend a helping hand even when we don’t “think” we need it, and help us resolve issues before they begin. I have had the priveledge of working hand in hand with Mrs Forney since she came to CJH a few years ago and I can say CJH has captured a gem in her. She is an administrator every teacher dreams of working under because you know she genuinely has your best interest at heart. She applauds her teachers dedication, recognizes their hardships and celebrates their triumphs. She is respected by all who encounter her and we are honored to have her at CJH. Mrs. Forney is who we take our ideas to when we don’t know how to “get them done” ourselves because we know she can and she will! She is amazing and deserves the honor in becoming Life Changer of the Year!

As a student teacher, I have only known Mrs. Forney for a short time but I can certainly see why she would be thought of as a “life changer.” From the moment I met her, I felt her positive, powerful energy! As busy and in-demand as she is, Mrs. Forney made it her business to truly get to know me and understand how she could be an advocate and mentor for me. She believes in truly connecting with people, building relationships, and helping her school community (students, colleagues and parents) understand how to grow, develop, and be their best selves. I know this! She has done it for me. She is truly a heart worker (and a hard worker)! I am so blessed to have gotten a chance to work with Mrs. Forney, and feel like she has touched my life in the most wonderful way. She is a life changer.

Marlena Hartz Posted over a year ago

It’s 6 o’clock, and Lisa Forney is still at her desk. The halls of Cardiff Junior High are empty, but she’s not ready to go home yet. Helping survivors of the storm and meeting the day-to-day duties of an assistant principal means long hours. Lisa does it anyway. Hurricane Harvey slammed her community in Katy, Texas. Homes were flooded, some filled with 3-feet of stagnant water from the slow-moving storm. On a cul-de-sac a few miles from Cardiff Junior High, residents had to escape to their attics and be rescued by boat. Two months after the storm, their neighborhood is still unrecognizable, with abandoned homes, piles of debris on lawns, and shattered windows. A hurricane-devastated neighborhood just a few miles from Cardiff Junior High. The storm affected more than 200 students and staff at Cardiff Junior High. “When you’ve lost everything, it’s devastating. We are so tied to our homes. It’s our place. It’s our peace of mind. It’s up to us who did not have a problem to work, and that’s what we’re doing,” Lisa said. The assistant principal recruited cleaning crews to haul away junk and scrub floors in storm-battered homes. She bought pencils and notebooks for students who lost theirs in the water. She set up a food pantry outside her office and told displaced students they could come by whenever they wanted and take whatever they needed, no questions asked. She relies on school volunteers, spreadsheets, and sign-up forms to keep her home-grown hurricane relief effort humming. “There’s a job for everyone,” she said from her office, a small, but inviting room filled with thank you notes and colorful knickknacks from students and colleagues. In the hallway, there’s some unusual deliveries—new furniture and mattresses waiting to be delivered to survivors. “These are unusual times, and it will be a while before we can get back to life as normal. Kids are very resilient?—?kids ,they bounce back very quickly. It’s the adults, it’s the mamas, that I worry about. Some are angry. Some lost everything they worked their whole lives to build. Some are living in hotels or with their brother-in-law or sister-in-law. It’s very hard for them,” Lisa said. Lisa’s latest project is a pop-up Thanksgiving market, where hurricane-displaced families can pick up turkeys and canned food. She’s managed to make it happen thanks to local businesses, the Katy community, and a partnership with GlobalGiving and Dawood Foundation. In times like this, it helps to have a neighbor like Lisa. To learn more about how Texas is rebuilding thanks to the heroic efforts of people like Lisa, visit GlobalGiving’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund at www.globalgiving.org. This is a story from GlobalGiving’s new "Voices From The Crowd" series.

Donna Lau Posted over a year ago

Mrs. Forney has always gone above and beyond to do what she can for her students, her staff, and for the community. She is a teacher’s teacher, who guide all of us to do our best in the classroom. She Is always there when you need an ear to listen or give wise suggestions, no matter how busy she is, or how late (or early) it may be. Often time, she is the first one in the building and the last to leave. In a school with hundreds of students, she can call each and every child by there name and know details about their family and their interests. Maybe to most, that does not seem like it is much. But to know those details tells you how much effort she has gone to get to know our students and the community. She fights for every teacher and student, present, past, and future. She see a problem, and she makes sure she finds a solution. She is a superwoman. Seeing all she does, most of us have difficulty seeing when she have time to sleep or take care of her family. But she does! She is an inspiration to all of us to do our best, in our job, in our community, and in our life.

I have known Lisa for a long time. From the time my son, Marcus, brought her to our house in 1987 up until now. She has an awesome personality, a giving spirit and she's a Christian young lady who walks her talk. She has an amazing personal story of triumphant and in helping others to win and reach their personal and professional goals. She works hard and she's self-motivated in everything she does. . Her service efforts are too numerous to name but she's involved with her local church, business partnerships with her school, works in the community and always honors senior citizens with an annual tea at her home. She serves as a role model to her daughter, students, parents, community and staff members. She truly believes in the mantra service above self. In fact, she lives it each day. Although she is my daughter-in-law, she's really like the daughter I never had. To be nominated for such a prestigious award is certainly befitting of her integrity, character, work ethic and service efforts and she's certainly deserving.

Antoinette Boulet Posted over a year ago

I only worked with Lisa Forney for a few months, when I was a long-term sub at the school where she works. She certainly stands out as someone who maintains high expectations for those around her. My impression was that she was in tune with and knew each student. She was dedicated to each student's success and encouraged students to be the best versions of themselves. In particular, she seemed interested in helping teachers understand what was in the best interest of students rather than what was easiest for the teachers. Creating a culture where even the most disadvantaged students can find success is the definition of what it means to be a life-changer in my opinion.

If there is anyone who deserves recognition for serving others and self-sacrifice, it is Mrs. Lisa Forney. I have had the honor of knowing Mrs. Forney for many years and throughout this time, I have witnessed first hand her tireless efforts to serve. Whether it is opening her home or wading through deep waters, she is always first to volunteer and use her many God given talents for the benefit of others. She is truly an amazing person and never counts the personal costs to herself as she constantly seeks ways that will ease the burden of others. Mrs. Forney is a true blessing to all she encounters.

I am grateful for her guidance, admire her commitment to her students, and love her sassy attitude. I miss Mrs. Forney very much. I hope that she wins this award because knowing her has definitely changed my life! ~Raelyn

Brandi Brown Posted over a year ago

Ms. Forney is an outstanding educator. Her love for and dedication to the students is remarkable. She brings a sincerity and caring honesty that both students AND parents need. I'll never forget my "aha moment" when she asked what was wrong and I told her that I didn't feel that my then 6th grader was ready for Jr. High. She looked me right in the eyes and said "Mrs. Brown SHE is handling Jr. High extremely well, I think it's Mom who may not be ready." Guess what? She was right and her giving me that moment of authenticity led to a lifetime of clarity that prepared me for when my daughter entered High School this year and will continue to comfort me as my other two daughters do the same. Ms. Forney sees the best in her students and not only helps them see it but also encourages them to walk into their greatness. I believe this award fits her because she is indeed a Life Changer!

I have had the honor and pleasure of knowing Lisa Forney for twenty-five years. Since the first day I met her at Edna Rowe Elementary School in Dallas, Texas I knew she was a life-changer. She is passionate about working with students, smart and intelligent, yet eager to learn from others by being transformational. Last, but definitely not least, she is a servant leader. She never cease to amaze me with her tenacity for doing what is necessary to have the best life and her will for helping others to attain the same. She grinds and works hard daily not just for herself or her family but for others too. Anyone who crosses her path will get to feel and experience her purpose and passion of loving and helping others. She is the epitome of a life-changer. Karen Wiggins

When I think of a "Life Changer" there is one person that comes to mind, & that is Mrs. Lisa Forney. I had the privilege of having her as my 3rd grade teacher at Edna Rowe Elementary School in Dallas, Tx. Even then with me being so young I was still influenced through out my life on lessons, morals, & values she instilled in us! Every day she would make us say, "Education is the key, education is the ticket to success. Believe me"! She would always remind us that anything we wanted in life we had to go out, work hard, & make it happen for ourselves because no one was going to give us anything! Never through out the rest of my days in school did I feel like a teacher loved and genuinely cared for me as much as she did! As I got older and went on through life I got side tracked, & caught up in a life full of crime! I found myself sitting in a Federal prison for Drug Conspiracy! In my darkest hour I sat back & reflected on the few people that I know I'd let down, & I became depressed & felt live giving up! Then I would remember what my 3rd grade teacher said, I would remember how she encouraged, & motivated us to be somebody in life! So today I'm proud to say that I made a full turn around in my life! In less than a year from being released I received a Diploma in Funeral Directing from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Services, & preached my first sermon at The New Mt. Horeb Missionary Baptist Church where my father is the pastor! On that day my heart was full of joy as i was surprised to see her sitting out in the congregation, she had came to celebrate with me & surprised me! Lol! It was amazing to see her there! Still supporting me & having my back like always! Then a year later I married the love of my life, & again to my surprise there in attendance was my 3rd grade teacher that I loved so much! Keep in mind, she doesn't live anywhere close to the Dallas area any more, she made 2 trips driving for hours to be with me on these life changing events! Today I'm the Vice President of Eternal Rest Funeral Home, & the proud Pastor of The Grace & Truth Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Tx! I know it was the prayers, lessons, & moral values of the people that loved me & never gave up on me that made me who I am today! I thank God for people like Mrs. Forney! Tears fill my eyes as I write this just thinking about how lucky I am to know her & have her in my life. No matter if she wins this award or not, she'll always be the real Life Changer in my book. God bless you all!

Lisa’s passion rests with being of service- to those who are underserved and who often have little to no voice. She works tirelessly to seek creative and fulfilling ways to meet the needs of others. A heart of gold...I was blessed to meet Lisa five years ago. At our first encounter she embraced me like we were lifelong friends. Later, I was told she does this to everyone; nevertheless, at that time, at that moment that was exactly what I needed...a big hug. Lisa makes you feel special just being in her presence. She is a stranger to none and shares her heart of gold with everyone she meets. Congratulations and well deserved!

Since the first time I met Lisa Forney, I have been inspired by her warmth, grace, and generous heart. She is the best example of what it means to be a steward of God. Her service to others does not cease. Whether it is spending her weekend to help feed those who have lost everything after the hurricane, or spending a minute brightening someone's day with a hug and a smile, Mrs. Forney seems to just know what people need. I thank God that Mrs. Forney is a part of my life; she played a huge role during a time when I was struggling personally and professionally. Although my family has not yet met Mrs. Forney, they all know how important she has become to me!

Life Changer? Yup. She has had an impact on my life, and makes a positive impact on all of those that she comes into contact with. When she changes positions within the school, she was still willing and excited to talk to students with whom she had worked before. On one hand, she would snatch them up and give them a good talking to if they needed it, and then with the other hand, give them positive affirmations and send them on their way. If there is something going on at Cardiff, where someone in our school or community is going to be positively impacted, Ms. Forney's name is typically attached to the project. She is definitely a life changer.

She has worked tirelessly helping those affected by Harvey. When my father had a stroke I called her to ask her for prayers. She offered to meet me at the hospital and pray with me. She let me know I could call her at any time and she would be there for me! There is no doubt in my mind she would have dropped everything to come be by my side. Lisa Forney is an amazing person, educator, and leader. I am honored to work alongside her as a colleague, and I am truly grateful to have her on my administrative team here at Cardiff Junior High. There is not a day that goes by that Lisa doesn’t bring 100% to her work. Actually, it’s not that she give 100% to “work,” she gives 100% to PEOPLE – students, fellow educators, parents, and community. For Lisa, her role as an assistant principal is not work -- it’s a calling and a passion. Just to name a few of her amazing attributes, Lisa is gracious, kind, driven, passionate, relentless, and hard-working. She is a believer in people and has a way of bringing out the best in others. As Assistant Principal for Student Support, she serves and blesses our school in so many ways. She will go to the ends of the Earth to find solutions for how a child can be successful. With diplomacy, empathy, and insight, Lisa coaches both students and parents through challenging situations. Additionally, she has been incredibly instrumental in reaching out to local businesses to partner with our school. In the past two years, she has forge a partnership with at least five local businesses. These business partners have made contributions to our school in the way of volunteers, donations, and treats for our faculty. Lisa’s actions during and after Hurricane Harvey are additional testament of her passion to serve PEOPLE. When families were being rescued from their flooded homes by the National Guard and taken to two temporary shelters at Katy ISD high schools, Lisa was one of the first to volunteer to serve as an on-site, district administrator. After Harvey, Lisa put pen to paper and outlined a comprehensive plan to meet the immediate needs of the Cardiff faculty and staff that were hardest hit by Harvey. She called it “CJH Boots on the Ground Initiative”. Lisa organized Cardiff faculty volunteers in the areas where they were needed most – crews to clean out staff/faculty homes, teams to provide food to work crews and families, and teams to collect items that would be needed by families. Lisa also solicited help from non-profit organizations to sponsor families and support them as they worked to get back on their feet. In a time when people were reeling from disruption to normal life, Lisa envisioned the organization needed to direct individuals who were so eager to help. Because of her detailed planning and communication, many families received the help they needed, and volunteers found a place where they could make a difference. Shortly thereafter, with the help of many staff members, Lisa organized an essential needs pantry that served over 200 Cardiff Junior High families and community members. The flurry of donations that poured in from individuals, business partners, and non-profit organizations were quickly organized for efficient distribution. Families were able to come to the school to pick up essential items -- water, food, clothing, school supplies, bedding and toiletries. Lisa scarified hours of her personal time to meet the urgent needs of our community. Recently, Lisa led the coordination of a Thanksgiving Pop Up Market. With help from Tays Junior High, another Katy ISD campus, she rallied business partners and volunteers from across the Katy community. The effort provided turkeys, compliments of Higher Dimension Church, and typical Thanksgiving foods for CJH families who were displaced from their homes. Over 100 hundred families left the market with a turkey and plenty of packaged foods to celebrate a stress-free Thanksgiving! Lisa Forney is absolutely a deserving individual to be recognized as a Life-Changer of the Year! Scott Rounds, Principal, Cardiff Junior High, Katy ISD.

. Mrs. Forney works tirelessly for her school an community. She understands the roll of a school in a child's life and uses resources available to build relationships among students, parents, administration and teachers. Her organization ability to bring people together for a cause is astounding. I have never seen someone expel so much energy towards others, whether it is letting someone observe her administration skills in order to advance their teaching careers, helping teachers with classroom management, giving students a safe place (her office ) to communicate. It is not surprising administrators and teachers from other schools call her for advice. She has the ability to bring out academic strides in students. Not only is she highly respected and admired at the educational level, but in the community she gives as much as a full time job. Mrs. Forney has the gift of "bringing people together" for a common goal. She has fed, clothed, counseled, and given resources to make the lives of others better in the time of need or crisis. And it doesn't stop there. Mrs. Forney has ALWAYS shown thankfulness and/or encouragement to others. She will write many cards, bake something purchase a little something just to show as she says is "I appreciate you" . Mrs. Forney is a remarkable person who is deserving of recognition for enhancing the lives of children, community, teachers, students. Mrs. Forney, "we appreciate you!"

There are really no words to describe how awesome Lisa Forney is! I initially met her through a friend and was immediately blown away by her passion as a parent. At the time, I was pregnant and remember thinking "Wow, I will never be able to measure up to her." A year later we became closer as our husbands became closer. She never stopped finding amazing ways to host events to inspire women, mothers, and children. So no I am thinking "Geez, is there anything she can't do?" Well not 9 years later, Lisa Forney hasn't changed one bit. It doesn't matter what school she is a part of, which organization she is building up, or what she pours into her family as well as the families of others, Lisa Forney does it with commitment, grace, and humility. She never refrains from helping others and showing all of us how to be great. I am honored to be her friend and colleague in education. She is top notch and a constant Life Changer! I can't think of a better candidate for this award.

2017-2018 Nominee National Life Group-Life Changer of the Year Award Lisa grew up in humble and meager beginnings in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas. Her story is an interesting one in that she initially grew up with a father and mother in the household and she was the third child of four girls. Early on in her life, she went through a traumatic life altering experience when her parents divorced while she was still in junior high school. While this seemingly negative family dynamic was a devastating disruption to her household and young life, Lisa used this adverse circumstance as fuel for overcoming life’s hardships back then and now. This circumstance sparked in her an insatiable desire to never give up, give out nor give in and it propelled her to be the best person she could possibly be and to help others become there best despite their circumstances. She was now an overcomer. She did not allow her current condition to be her conclusion in life. To the contrary, she developed an audacious work ethic at a young age similar to that of a marathon runner. She always pushed herself to be the best and do her best in helping humanity in any way she could. Unknown to her at the time, this was perhaps the infancy stage of Lisa’s journey of service. As Carl Jung would describe in his book, Wounded Healer, she had now become a Wounded Healer. Though deeply hurt by the divorce, she wanted to help others. She was wounded but now she wanted to help herself and others heal. Through her own pain she wanted to help others persevere and prosper. Through tragedy she wanted to help others triumph. Through her own fears and tears she wanted others to be comforted. In retrospect, she is now grateful for the difficulties she went through. She recognizes that the most painful times in her life were the most deeply transformative; without them, she would not be who she is or where she is today. They were necessary. Out of the ashes of her pain Wonder Woman was born. I first met Lisa as a teenager in the summer of 1987. At the time she was attending Vacation Bible School. Many teenagers you encounter at her age have a self-centered mentality. But, Lisa was different. She was serving others through her church affiliation, high school government association and social organizations. Although this Life Changers nomination is perhaps the first national public acknowledgement/recognition of her transformational life changing efforts and endeavors, Lisa has been a life changer and a life saver for some time now. Life Changer Educator Lisa began her career life changing efforts upon graduation from college and accepting her first teaching assignment in the Dallas Independent School District. During her tenure as a teacher, she would always be placed with challenging students that no one wanted to teach. In this environment Lisa thrived and excelled. These difficult settings and experiences would be the birthplace and space where she would become a trailblazer for the ‘least of these.’ She met her students where they were and moved them to where they needed to be. She was not only a professional teacher, but she was so much more than this to her students and campus. She provided the academic, social and emotional well-being for her students. Due to her own challenging upbringing and childhood, she was able to relate to her students on multiple levels. She was a counselor, doctor, mediator, mom, friend and confidant to the many students she was blessed to serve and teach. She exhibited the aforementioned characteristics by paying for students’ breakfast and lunch, purchasing school supplies for those in need and by being a real life touchable role model for the plethora of students who needed someone just to listen and encourage them. As a teacher she was a life and game changer in the classroom. She showed her students that she not only was concerned about their academic performance but also about their character and who they were as a person. Therefore, her students received academic skills as well as skills for the journey we call life. Lisa was the kind of teacher that every parent desired, every student deserved and every principal dreamed of having on a campus. As evidence of the impact she had on her students, after they left her, they would always stay in touch and let her know if they had gotten a new job, graduated from high school or college, got married, had kids and even when they were in trouble, they still stayed in contact. Her passion for serving others was so impactful in the classroom and on the campus, she received Teacher of the Year awards in two different school districts. Eventually, through her service, sacrifice, warm and sagacious spirit, she would be offered a position as a school assistant principal. With this new role she was able to impact more students and staff members on an even broader scale. She gave of herself unselfishly. Difference Maker Fast forward to now, Lisa has been involved in making a difference in this world through her work as a former elementary assistant principal and now junior high school assistant principal, her church involvement, as a small business owner, through community service projects and by mentoring both female students and adults alike. She’s an exceptional role model for our daughter Lauren. She has modeled for her what it means to have a strong work ethic and being kind, compassionate, humble and what it means to put others first. As a result of Lisa’s example, Lauren understands what service above self means and what it means to be Christ like both in word and deed. Most recently, the Houston area and Katy community were devastated by Hurricane Harvey. To assist with Cardiff Junior High campus staff members, she organized a campus team to go into homes to help with cleanup and to provide meals. Additionally, she also organized a food pantry on campus for the community. The campus provided essential items: food, water, clothing, diapers, cleaning supplies, toiletries and bedding. The campus pantry served over 200 Cardiff JH staff and community members. This was such a mammoth undertaking. But with the help of business partners, campus staff, volunteers and family she was able to organize it and see it come to fruition. This year in preparation for the Thanksgiving holidays, Lisa coordinated with local businesses, a local church, a sister junior high school campus and school business partners, a Pop Up Thanksgiving Market. Cardiff JH opened its doors once again to serve over 100 families who came in and shopped for food items for Thanksgiving. This initiative was done at no cost to the families. Each family served received a turkey and other items needed to enjoy a great Thanksgiving meal. Bear in mind these initiatives were done at the same time while she was still completing all of the other duties associated with her full time ‘real job’ of being a junior high school assistant principal. Typically, she would work on these other projects during after school hours. Recently, I inquired with Lisa about how long she would be at work during preparation for the Thanksgiving Pop Up Market project. Her simple reply was, “when the work is done.” Over the years, this has been her motivating mantra, when the work is done. She prides herself on being excellent at each task she puts her hand to. Whether its feeding the homeless, mentoring young girls, visiting local hospitals, serving at women’s shelters, having teas with senior citizen women, making meals for the sick and shut in or engaging in community service projects, she does each task with a servant’s heart and she does not stop until the ‘work is done.’ This strong sense of self and divine purpose drives her to continue until the work is done. While it is simply impossible to quantify everything Lisa does, especially considering the fact that she has a very challenging job working in a junior high school, it just further illustrates and demonstrates how dedicated she is to ensuring that she leaves a lasting legacy of excellence and service to her fellow man. It was Mahatma Gandhi who said, “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service to others.” One of Gandhi’s protégé’s said, “everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don't have to know Einstein's theory of relativity to serve. You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love. And you can be that servant." Lisa’s life goal is knowing that she’s helped one person. To her, that’s true success. In sum, it was the late great Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who said if anyone is around when he has met his final hour he said he didn’t want a long funeral. Whoever was the person that was going to do his eulogy he said be sure to tell them not to be too long. Contemplating what he wanted the eulogist to say about his life and legacy he described what he did not want him to say. In a speech Dr. King said tell them not to mention he won the Nobel Peace Prize—that isn’t important. Tell them not to mention that I have three or four hundred other awards—that’s not important. Tell them not to mention where I went to school. Dr. King said, I’d like somebody to mention that Martin Luther King tried to give his life serving others, he tried to love somebody, he tried to feed the hungry, he tried in his life to clothe those who were naked, visit those who were in prison and he tried to love and serve humanity. In essence he just wanted to leave a committed life behind. Similar to the extraordinary example of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, my wife Lisa has tried her best to serve her fellow man. All of the accolades, acknowledgements and recognitions are awesome. The Life Changer nomination, though befitting, is not her why. She does it all to make a difference and to hopefully leave this world a better place by the example of servant leadership she tries to live. Lisa is truly a life changer, life saver, difference maker but most importantly she is a wounded healer. Marcus D. Forney

It is difficult to find words to adequate describe the intense, genuine warmth and loving care you experience when you first meet Lisa Forney. I was new to the school, area, and district when I met her this year and she automatically made me feel welcomed, loved and an integral part of the community family. As with everyone who meets her, the immediate appreciation you have for the way she makes you feel, grows into utter amazement and intense admiration when you realize that she extends that same warmth and welcome to absolutely everyone she meets and works tirelessly to find new and creative ways to serve others. What is also amazing is that she truly doesn't realize what a rare and priceless talent she has and the depth and width of it's reach. Lisa Forney was the Assistant Principal at Wolfe Elementary during my grandson’s kindergarten and first grade years. During that time, my grandson’s behavioral problems kept him in Ms. Forney’s office more than in the classroom. Ms. Forney, being the commensurate professional that she is, peppered with astute observation skills, recognized that my grandson’s out of control behavior was mostly beyond his control. That was the beginning of how and why my grandson and our family came to view, know and love this woman as our “super hero”! With great sensitivity and compassion, she counseled, guided and encouraged my grandson and parents through the process to get the help he needed to control and largely remedy my grandson’s behavioral issues. When he learned that Ms. Forney was a Principal at the Junior High School he would be attending, he was ecstatic! So was his family. Ms. Forney was the first person he sought out when he set foot on campus. Knowing she was there brought us all a sense of comfort and peace. We knew we had someone faithful and supportive near him and also willing and able to mete our tough love with a side of compassion and understanding. Ms. Forney is such an exemplary role model for our children and for any adult who aspires to be the very best spouse, parent, professional, friend, and child of God. This lady is a phenomenal woman! Thank you, Ms Forney, for all of the lives you have touched in such a profoundly positive way!

Lisa Forney is the consummate mother, leader, educator, and role model for positive and uplifting behavior. As a mother, she is rearing a daughter to understand the value of community service. As a result, her middle school aged daughter has parlayed her own yearly food drive, which she has done since she was elementary school, into a community service academy where she teaches other youth how to create community service projects. As a homemaker Lisa maintains a lovely, beautifully decorated home where she and her husband entertain friends and family in a picturesque environment of overwhelming hospitality. The table settings and decor for her events are suitable for an interior decorating magazine photo shoot. As a wife, she supports her husband in his career as a successful school administrator and Christian leader. As an educator, Lisa maintains a positive, upbeat approach to encouraging youngsters to learn, grow, and be the best they can be regardless of their circumstances. In the same manner, she encourages her co-workers to do the same by leading by example, making special handmade gifts for staff on special occasions like Teacher Appreciation Day, and by supervising in a firm but fair manner. She is a reliable source of advice and inspiration at the school where she works providing a beacon of joy. While doing all this, Lisa also is a small business entrepreneur running her Cake My Day home made treats company. She has countless satisfied customers around the state of Texas who call upon her to make creative theme-inspired baked goods. Lisa Forney makes an indelible mark on all who meet her and is well deserving of the title "Life Changer of the Year."

She is confident, loving, caring, nurturing, giving, thoughtful and considerate. Mrs. Forney will do all that she can to make things happen for the benefit of others. Mrs. Forney is more than deserving of this award and I am happy that she has come into my life.

Lisa Forney has always had a heart for people. It is evident in her day-to-day life working at CJH. Until recently, I never had the opportunity to personally experience her heart-warming care. Then the hurricane hit and I found myself staying at a shelter here in the area. When she heard about it Mrs.. Forney (in only the way that she can) made the decision that she and her family would take me in for the night until my friends could come and get me the next morning. It was extremely late at night and she and her family made their way to where I was and took me in for a few hours. So the word "life-changer" is real for me because for even those few hours she helped to bring light to a dark situation. She allowed me to be able to rest comfortably for a few hours verses being left at the shelter. For that, I am forever thankful for her act of kindness. I totally agree that she is deserving of this nomination and I am excited to see what other great things lie ahead for her in the future.

Lisa Forney is an amazing person who does it all. She works tirelessly as a school administrator, she has her own cake pop business with her daughter, she recently started another business on how to manage your life, and she is devoted to her family. Lisa is meticulous and caring. She holds herself to very high standards and consistently reaches her goals. I have set in countless meetings with Lisa where she always tries to make sure that the needs of those in the meetings are met. She considers the appropriateness of interventions for students while also thinking of her staff. When a parent has a concern, she takes the time to sit with them and discuss their concern. She listens to their story and connects with them. She does the same thing with her students. She forms relationships with her students reminding them that they matter. Lisa's daughter, Lauren, is a perfect example of the impact that Lisa can have on someone's life. Lauren is light-years ahead in her emotional and social maturity of what would be expected for someone her age. This has been fostered by her mother. Lisa leads by example and tries to make the world around her better for it. She is collaborative and seeks out consultation with others when figuring out complex problems and situations. Lisa recognizes that no one person can do it all and is willing to be a team-player. I feel fortunate that I have had the opportunity to get to know and work with Lisa.

Mrs. Forney is the definition of giving! She works well into the night to make sure all aspects of her job are completed to perfection! When she isn’t working as an assistant principal, she is serving our community! Immediately after Harvey struck, she was organizing and planning our school “store” to help our community! When that ran out, she thought I’d what she could do next! She then set up another store completely dedicated to making A thanksgiving “store” for our families so they wouldn’t have to go without this year! All of this free to our community! I have known Mrs. Forney since my son was in kindergarten. That year was so difficult for us as I had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had almost one surgery per month and volunteering my spare time in between, at school. Mrs. Forney took both Zac and I under her wing and supported Zac through out the whole ordeal. When she left our school we mourned her leaving as we had lost a hero and a friend. Zac had had a very difficult time with bully's at his school and when leaving fifth grade he discovered his hero was going to be at his junior high school. On the day we arrived for "meet the teacher" day. Mrs. Fourney still remembered him by name greeted and welcomed him like no time had even been lost. Even though he sees her sometimes in the hall, just knowing she is there brings him so much security. So many parents I speak to feel the same about this remarkable woman, who when meeting her for the first time, know how much she really cares about your child and wants the bullied child or , under dog to succeed. Thank you Mrs. Fourney for being that shining light in what could be the dark hallway we call junior high.

Congratulations to Mrs. Lisa Forney on her nomination. Lisa is a very beautiful person inside and out. I am so very proud and blessed that she is my friend. I met Lisa in a Zumba class where we instantly connected. We have laughed, cried, played and prayed together. Lisa is one of the most giving persons that I know. When my mother became ill last year and had to be put in the hospital, Lisa cooked food for us. I don't mean just a dinner. She made enough to last for several weeks. Lisa is a phenomenal wife, mother, business woman and is always helping her community. I can not think of anyone more deserving of the award of Lifechanger of the Year! All my love Lisa!

Lisa Forney took charge and created a free market in our school lunchroom, where victims of Hurricane Harvey could pick up goods they needed for their families. I have never experienced a trauma like my family experienced in Bearcreek. Our house had 4 1/2 feet of flood water and sewage in it. Lisa arranged for the school to go out to the flooded homes of teachers, and do the tear out. This has a market value of $15,000. Lisa also arranged a market atmosphere where families such as mine could select items we needed. At first I was reticent, I did not want to take goods that my neighbors and other families may desperately need. However, Lisa kindly explained to me that my belongings were no longer usable, they were saturated with water and sewage and I needed to take what I needed for my family. I was so reticent I took packing paper and boxes, which Lisa encouraged a fellow employee to put in my car. She also arranged with the teachers and staff to cook several meals for the employees who were displaced by the flood. Lisa goes beyond thinking of the immediate need. She was thinking of the host families taking in relatives and friends for an extended period of time. My host family was very excited about the meals. It was like "surprise day". They were so happy after a day of work to come home to a home cooked meal. Lisa goes way beyond the standard, she is amazing. She is heading up a "Pop up market" for Thanksgiving. There are several of us still living with relatives and in small apartments while our homes are in various states of repair. This pop up market once again puts the recipients in a place where they are able to give to their host family, and make a contribution to the Thanksgiving celebration. I had an opportunity to attend a Lady Lauren meeting with my son Elijah. Lisa practices these same demonstrations of love for her community, through her daughter Lauren's "Lady Lauren" Service Academy. This year the academy has welcomed their first two teen male members. Once again, the academy focuses on provided for the needs of our community members. Lisa Forney has been a blessing to me, and my family and community.

Mrs. Forney is a sweet and nice lady but she is also strict. She is strict because she cares about you and wants you always do your best in life. Mrs. Forney also believes in kids and helps us learn how to do better. Mrs. Forney has made a difference in my life.

I first heard about Mrs. Forney from my son when he came home from school. He said, "Dad this lady is a new assistant principal at our school and she already knows all the kids names in the cafeteria." Over the next few months I heard him talk more about her and saw her in the distance at school functions. I finally got to really know her when we sat near each other at a basketball game. She called me by name. Later that night I told my son, "You are right about Mrs. Forney, she knows all the adults names too." Over the last three years I have learned that this is a lady with a heart of gold who goes above and beyond to help kids and their families. She has impacted my life and the life of my son in a way that I could never repay. Ms. Forney is a true Life Changer.

Mrs. Lisa Forney is the epitome of a Life Changer. This woman with a beautiful smile and a huge heart has a reputation of integrity and generosity. She is one that will be in the trenches with you until the end. Lisa Forney recognizes impossibilities as opportunities to rise to new heights. She tirelessly gives of herself to our staff, our students, and our community on a daily basis. What I love most about Lisa is her passion. You will never find her idle because she is constantly working on new efforts to make a difference in the lives of others. Whether it is brainstorming ideas on how to move our campus to a new level of success, or rushing out on two wheels in the wee hours of the evening to take care of her family, or making phone calls and sending messages to rally people together in a community effort, or opening her home to those in need, Lisa is always making moves that count. simply put, Lisa Forney is a woman who makes it happen.

It is so hard for me to try to narrow down all of the amazing things I want to say about Ms. Forney I order for them to fit into this small space. She has been such an incredible resource and support for us, as parents of Jr. High children. She is the kind of educator and administrator who sets the bar extremely high for peers who look up to her and aspire to be like her. However, I feel the greatest indicator of her impact on Cardiff Jr High is seen in the enormous amount of respect and admiration given her by the students themselves. They know Ms. Forney loves them and believes in them, therefore they are willing to rise to meet the high level of expectation she has for each of them. She is instilling confidence, resilience, purpose, belief, character, work ethic, persistence, determination and so many other life changing skills into children on a daily basis. Many of these children come from homes where these things are not taught, but these children receive them because of Ms. Forney’s heart and dedication to truly be a Lifechanger. Lisa Forney is truly a legendary woman, educator and administrator and is so worthy of this praise and so much more.

Mrs. Forney stepped in my life 4 years ago when she was 6th grade Assistant Principal at Cardiff Junior High School. This was her first year coming to Cardiff Junior High from Wolfe Elementary in Katy ISD. When I first saw her I knew she meant BUSINESS!!! From day one she had and still continues to have high expectations for her teachers and students. She has a passion for education, advocating what is right for children, and helping others. She can multitask and has organized top notch events and created new programs for our school such as: Harvey Pantry, CJH Thanksgiving Pop Up Market, and works with countless companies and organizations that provide our school with donations. She truly made me want to work harder because I had an administrator that worked hard, never complained about her work load, and was in the trenches with her teachers. I knew back then and I know now that she has my back. When I applied for my Masters Program in Educational Leadership, I knew I wanted to learn from the BEST. Despite, her busy schedule she became my mentor, role model, and dear friend over these past 4 years. Now, Mrs. Forney, is our Student Support Administrator, and I am the Testing Coordinator on our campus, and I have the pleasure of working even closer with Mrs. Forney each and everyday and I see how the MAGIC happens (God blessed us to have offices next door to one another). She is truly an inspiration and a blessing to my life. I continue to grow daily from Mrs. Forney's wisdom, encouragement, and support. Everybody needs a Mrs. Forney in their life and she has no idea how much she has impacted my life and our school community at Cardiff Junior High. We love her and all I can say is this sounds like a Life Changer and one amazing woman!!! #CardiffStrong

I was so delighted to hear that Lisa was nominated for this award. She is a true earth angel in so many ways. She deeply cares for the children at her school and she shows such love and kindness to everyone she comes in contact with. She is a true leader and teacher of the important things in life, showing love and doing service for others. I'm so proud of the ways she shows this not only in her school/work life, but in her home life as well. She teaches her daughter the importance of love and service and guides her in community service efforts that give to those less fortunate. She truly is a life changer because she does change lives for the better. Everyone who meets Lisa is touched by her goodness and can always take away more knowledge, more insight, and more of a desire to do good and create positive changes in our world. She is a true light worker and I'm so proud of all she has done!

Mrs. Forney goes in where angels fear to tread. Others might be intimidated by a school with 75% economically disadvantaged. Others might bemoan the difficulties of a population with almost that many coming from homes in which languages other than English are spoken. Some might even see the situation as impossible, with as many as a third of the families displaced by the flooding after Hurrican Harvey. With her children-first priority firmly in place, Mrs. Forney tackles one impossible task after the next through her unique style of no-nonsense love. She loves the kids first; she loves those who teach, as well. Imagine one person making over a thousand people feel as though they are each her favorite. Through her example of tough love and hard work, we are all encouraged to do our best. She truly changes the life trajectory of each person she works with.

A little over a year ago my family was faced with a crisis that I don’t think any of us could have even prepared to battle. My Daughter was very sick and I can remember how scared and helpless I felt at times trying to gain the strength and courage just to face a new day. Ms. Forney went above and beyond to help care for my Daughter as soon as she was made aware of our situation. Until meeting her I honestly had never met such an amazing, inspiring, caring and selfless person that had the complete capability to listen with her heart and give so much of herself to a child and family she didn’t even know. Everything she did to help us changed my Daughters life and reminded her that there are truly amazing people in the world! I am so grateful and my family is completely blessed to have had the privilege to meet and receive help from such an awesome person!!! I think the world we live in today could learn a lot by following in the footsteps of such a kind and compassionate woman!!

Lisa is not only a great teacher and community minded individual who loves God, but is a bearer of great fruit. Not only does she love the students and staff, where she works daily to enrich and bless the lives of those she interacts with daily. Marcus is able to pour his gifts, into his profession because of her selfless support and love for him. Her unending encouragement and championing lady Lauren's civic and community minded goals, is shaping one of our future leaders into her purpose and passion. I have always been proud to have Lisa in my family, but the opening of her home during the hurricane and her tireless efforts to help others during this life changing event, make me compelled to write and give her, her flowers while she yet lives. My daughter, Lisa Forney, is a special person. Growing up she did everything I asked of her. I believe her life is blessed because of her obedience. She has been serving faithfully in education now for 25 years. She loves her job. As a teacher, she was named Teacher of the year in two different school districts (Dallas ISD and Arlington) in the 6 years she taught. She was a specialist with Alternative Certification Department in Dallas ISD where she worked with hundreds of interns helping them get certified to teach. She recruited, trained, helped interns prepare for state tests. She was involved in every aspect of their certification. She was a specialist with high expectations. She also worked in Advanced Academic Services where she worked with the Talented and Gifted Teachers. In this role she trained teachers, wrote curriculum and held workshops for teachers to display their students best of show---their projects at the end of the year. They were a family. They loved her and she loved them. As an assistant principal, she has been involved in many aspects of her community. She has a way of making things better no matter where she works---elementary--she puts systems in place to make things better. She kept the entire school safe with her planning guides and pulling the teachers together. She trained and trained some more. She celebrated her teachers and they celebrated her. She loved her last elementary school by the work, time and care that she put into the job. During her time at the elementary, she was in charge of the 40th Birthday in addition to her regular responsibilities as the assistant principal, my daughter planned for a year. She ensured the current and past principals were honored with an unveiling of portraits. She put together committees to work on various things, like the unearthing of the time capsule, invitations, refreshments, logistics. She is a master planner. She has the ability to see the big picture and the small pieces it takes to get the job done from start to finish. During the 40th Celebration, she honored the past, present as they looked to the future. It was a great program that honored and valued all that had graced the halls of that small elementary campus. They loved her and she loved them at that school and when she left, they missed her. Talk to any teacher that was there after she left. In junior high the story hasn’t changed for my daughter. She is a force. She brings order/structure and helps teachers to be their best. She completely supports the vision of her principal. She has been working without rest on numerous projects to help those in her school community that were affected by Harvey. She organized help for the faculty and staff; cleaning of houses, meals, helping gather essentials for faculty and staff. She spearheaded a pantry that served the community. Now, she is planning a Pop-Up Thanksgiving Market for the community to come and shop for things they need for Thanksgiving, free of charge. She has spent countless hours devising planning guides and working with lots of community members to pull off this community event. She is doing this on top of her regular responsibilities as assistant principal. Check out a story that was written about her by Global giving. https://medium.com/globalgoodness/lisa-3eae89ccdaf Not only is she a hard worker at work, but at home it doesn't stop there. She has a husband and a daughter. Her daughter started a Cakepop business five years ago where she is teaching her daughter a business. My daughter always was making things with my granddaughter to give away, like to the seniors at the church, the mailman, the teachers at my granddaughter's daycare and school. Then one day someone said they wanted to buy one of her cake pop bouquets, Well, they had a cake pop show and that was five years ago. They have been running their business ever since. They recently had a booth at a market at a local elementary school where they sold their cake pops. Checkout their Facebook page. You will see the time and effort that my daughter puts into everything she touches. She is a dynamic young woman. https://www.facebook.com/CakePopBouquetsOtherSpecialtyTreats/ Not only does she spend time teaching her daughter some business skills, but she is also teaching her how to serve others. My granddaughter also has a community service academy. It is called Lady Lauren's Community Service Academy. My granddaughter works with 15 students in a year of service under the guidance of Lisa. Last year, they collect 2,500 canned goods that benefitted a local charity. Just think of the time and effort that took. They do lots for the community, but now they are working with other students. Sometimes, I don’t know how she does it all. It is unbelievable. So, don’t believe my words. Check out their Facebook page that showcases all that they are doing together in the community with other students for free charge. My daughter takes a lot of time to help others and their children outside of her leadership role at work. https://www.facebook.com/Lady-Laurens-Community-Service-Academy-1214028515328777/ My granddaughter won a Student Hero Award, where she was selected out of 5.2 million students in the state of Texas for her community service efforts. Take a moment to watch the news story that was done on my granddaughter. http://www.fox26houston.com/news/134728018-video She won the award because of what Lisa and her Dad, Marcus are doing daily. What I am trying to say is that my daughter is a Life Changer not only at work, but in her own home. In her community. When she shines her light, it makes everything and everyone around her better. She knows how to make everyone feel special; like they are the only person on Earth. My daughter celebrates her birthday for a month, but the month is spent celebrating others. This past July, she celebrated the senior members of her church by hosting a Gratitude Tea. She served 5 courses, had someone come and sing, she celebrated the lives of those women from the church on her birthday. She also had a Mother- daughter gathering where she planned activities for the Mother and Daughters to bond and have fun; again doing for others while celebrating her birthday. She is a gracious person. She serves by example. She is a worker bee. She won't ask anyone to do something that she is not willing to do herself. She believes in making things happen by serving others. When she has an idea, she puts a planning guide together and gets everyone involved. She does this both at work and with her family. You should ask her for a copy of the planning guide for our Christmas in Katy. You should ask her for the planning guides that she puts together at work. They are remarkable. She makes things happen. She has so many talents, it would take me writing a book to cover them all. I could go on and on about how great my daughter is, but I think you get the picture. Talk to some people about her. See for yourselves how she has changed lives. Everywhere she goes people fall in love with her. She is giving and believes in making where ever she is BETTER. Plan a trip and go meet her for yourself. You will be in awe by her personality, her zest for life and her energy. I am blessed to have her as my daughter. Selecting her as your Life Changer of the Year would be the right choice. Thanks for taking the time to read about my daughter.

Lisa Forney and I are connected for life. Lisa and I attended church together for many years and worked in the same ministry when she was a resident in Dallas County.. Her beauty is both outward and inward. When she greets you, her smile illuminates the room.. Lisa is a very compassionate and giving person. She selflessly took time to coach my daughter on constructing a job winning resume when she was pursuing a career as an educator. My daughter is now in her 5th year of teaching. What I most admire about Lisa are the life changing morals and passion for learning that she instills in her daughter, Laureen. Lisa has assisted Laureen in starting "Lady Laureen's Community Service Academy." This academy started out as an ongoing can food drive initiative and has since evolved to Tshirt sales with proceeds going to help disaster victims and the less fortunate in the community. Lisa has also shown Laureen how to become an entrepreneur with tips on marketing presentation. The list for Lisa's good deeds are endless because they occur every day.
