Music that Describes Brandy

Brandy Lennert was nominated by her colleague, Marcia Riendeau.

"Brandy gives so much of her life to the youth in her spheres of influence," explains Riendeau. "I first met her building sets for a production of the musical Little Women at Wild Rose High School in which both of our daughters were involved. The more time I spent with her, the more I observed how she took time with the students building and painting to share life lessons with them. She has an incredible way of observing people where they are at and knowing the right words that will help them improve their skills. This perception equips her perfectly for her position of lead teacher and coordinator at the Waupaca County Alternative Program, where she has served her students for nine years."

When the students come to this school, they are in need of more support than traditional students. Ms. Lennert finds a way to help them, whether it's listening to their frustrations, holding them accountable, wading through hours of writing IEPs for them, or finding innovative ways to help them learn. Her relentless pursuit of getting these students the support they need compels this nomination, as she effectively changes their lives for the better.

"Come and see her success stories as she celebrates each student who graduates from this program back to their school," said Riendeau.

I knew Brandy when she first took the job at this school. She started at the lowest level and immediately went back to school to be qualified to do more. She had found a place where she belonged. Brandy has a need to defend the kids in our society with the cards stacked against them. This doesn't mean not holding them accountable for their behavior; but it does mean understanding what is driving that behavior and working to fix the real problems. I only hope that the ones who make it to a better place in life will recognize how much they were helped by someone who loved them unconditionally.

I have always admired Brandy's dedication to her students. Her willingness to help kids goes beyond her students, she even would help my youngest daughter, who struggled with math, while she attended her own child's soccer games! She quickly helped my child learn in an easy, understandable way!
