LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Laura Weinbrenner was nominated by an anonymous colleague.

Ms. Weinbrenner is new to Mesa Public Schools, and she works at two different schools. Most people would say that many years of experience in a specific job qualifies you to be a better candidate, but not always. For being a brand new school nurse, Ms. Weinbrenner has already has gone above and beyond for her students and colleagues. She comes up with creative ideas to keep the students intrigued, creates a fun health office, and puts together wellness plans for the school's students and parents.

For example, the health office hosts vision screenings. It has a few supplies for vision screenings, and Ms. Weinbrenner figured out how to make them fun. She used the silly glasses for vision screenings and started to give out stickers to students who got their screenings done. What a great idea!

Ms. Weinbrenner has develped loving relationships with students. Since she doesn't stay at one school, her students miss her and ask for her by name every day.

"If I can describe Laura in any way, it's that she is a giver," said the nominator. "Laura loves to give to those around her, and she does it well. Laura is also a mother figure. She is loving and sweet, but she also has authority and receives respect from the students. She's definetely unique, but most importantly, she has very good values and shows them to those around her. Laura is professional when caring for our students and staff. She's a strong-minded person, and she doesn't let her bad days interfere with her work. In a short period of time, she has done more than most would do in years. She's my LifeChanger."
