Yuliana Tarango was nominated by her colleague, Beatrize Issa.
"A LifeChanger can be defined as someone who has an impact that is strong enough to change people's lives for the better, strong enough to overcome any obstacle or hurdle on their journey towards helping others, strong enough to never allow the word 'no' to deter them, and strong enough to empower those around them to achieve their own goals. Yuliana Tarango, RN, embodies all of these characteristics of a LifeChanger and more," explains Issa.
Growing up, it was one particular opportunity in her life that set her on the path towards becoming a nurse. At the age of 13, while in middle school, she participated in Take Your Daughter to Work Day at a local hospital. Her experience on that day in the Pediatric Unit opened her eyes to a deep, personal satisfaction by helping the youngest and most vulnerable members of our community. From that day on, she never looked back - she had discovered her calling. Her career path had been chosen, but it wasn't an easy path for her. Ms. Tarango drew upon the life lessons she had been taught by her parents - the importance of commitment and dedication, to become the first in her family to earn a college degree.
Upon graduation in 2007 from the University of Texas at El Paso, she began her nursing career in the Pediatric unit, once again giving everything she had to help fragile new lives who had just come into this world. Eventually, in 2012, she made the transition to the Socorro ISD as a campus nurse at O'Shea Keleher and later on at Cactus Trails. One particular story that stands out to her is the moment she realized that one of the babies she had helped during her time in a NICU was a student at the elementary school she was working at. As professionals, we don't often get to see the fruits of our labor years down the road, so this was definitely a pleasant surprise!
Nurse Tarango's distinguished career includes service not only to the campuses she works at, but to the entire Socorro ISD as well. She proudly serves on the District Safety Committee, whose role became so critical in planning for the safety of all students and staff throughout the past year as we dealt with the impact of COVID-19 in the community. She is also one of only two nurses in SISD to hold the NCSN or National Certification for School Nurses.
"At Cactus Trails Elementary, where she currently works, Nurse Tarango can be found making calls and checking on the health of our scholars and their families long after everyone else has left the building for the day. She is a kind-natured, knowledgeable and trusted voice for all of us," said Issa.

I happen to be in the blessed position, of being both a staff of the amazing Team at Cactus Trails; and equally blessed to be the parent of a student at the same school. When I stop to think of Nurse Tarango what comes to mind is empathy, kindness, dedication warmth and a caring heart. Nurse Tarango is by far one of the most amazing health professionals I have come across. In a time when we are reminded daily just how important and essential our health care workers are it is such a treasure that we can count with Nurse Tarango at Cactus Trails ES. When I have received a call about my daughter being sick or possibly not feeling her best, Nurse Tarango is always comforting letting me know how my daughter is, always making sure all safety protocols are followed. She is caring with my daughter and I know she is not the exception. I have witnessed Nurse Tarango not only making sure the students are taken care of but she also shows them warmth and love. I have personally felt very comforted as a Staff when I have had concerns or questions and Nurse Tarango has always taken the time to answer them and make sure that I feel at ease. In such uncertain times as we are living with this pandemic where every moment counts. It has not gone unnoticed by me or my family how many times after, heading home Nurse Tarango stayed late at work and called our home to check on my daughter and find out how she was doing. Nurse Tarango has been a huge support and guidance for our school during this pandemic. When you have questions regarding safety protocals, health issues of children and employees, she is the main source of knowledge and professionalism. I could recall many cases where she informed and guided parents for the well being of our students. Our CTE community is so lucky to have such a valuable nurse with such a dedication to her career. Nurse Tarango is truly one of a kind. She has the biggest heart for her passion in her career. SHe is always willing to give a helping hand and goes above and beyond to help everyone. She has late nights about almost everyday, yet she wakes up with a huge smile in her face. Truly an amazing individual.
Nurse Tarango has been a true blessing and a fighting warrior at Cactus Trails Elementary. Nurses are made with a HEART of GOLD, they amplifies many great distinguishing characteristics and carry many challenges since the pandemic started. Her daily work is overwhelming but yet she does it with a smile and the ability to continue and succeed. Nurse Tarango is the best nurse I have ever worked with. She is always there when you need her, especially during this pandemic time due to COVID. If you send her an email she will reply right away, even if it's late at night! She always has answers to any safety question you may have and she clearly explains it to you! She is very friendly, patient, and smart. She always has a smile on her face, even though she might be tired because of the long hours she works every day to take care of ALL of us, not just our scholars. Everybody at Cactus Trails is grateful to have her as our nurse, she deserves the best!
Words are not enough to say ‘Thank You’ to fill the shoes of Nurse Tarango. Nurses have a heart full of GOLD that are not replaceable. Her day since the pandemic started is crazy going from 6-9pm with many challenges that they face. She is a warrior that does not stop at any given moment. She supports anything and everything that we do as school and a community. Thank you Nurse for everything your do.

Nurse Tarango has been extremely busy since the start of the pandemic. Despite how busy she is, she maintains a positive attitude and walks around with a huge smile ready to care for our diamondbacks. Thank you nurse Tarango for everything you do.??
It's Monday evening, 9:00 pm and most employees are home with their families getting ready for the next work day. Nurse Tarango has just completed her day, emailing me her follow-up phone calls and updates. She has seen countless scholars today. She has provided medical care for scholars and staff. She has completed numerous Covid reports and contacted families. She has trained her team to perform vision screenings and assisted scholars with emergency care....and this was all done this past week!
This is just an example of the dedication and work ethic Nurse Tarango exemplifies. As a school principal, it is critical that one can rely and have confidence in their school nurse. A school nurse is much more than providing band-aides, ice bags and taking temperatures. In this time of the pandemic, a school nurse has to have vast knowledge of policies and procedures, a world of patience and above all, a love and passion for scholars and the nursing profession. I can say without a doubt that Nurse Tarango has all of these. She is a true professional and a blessing to us at Cactus Trails Elementary.

ALTHOUGH NURSE TARANGO IS EXTREMELY BUSY WITH COVID-19, SHE STILL KNOWS ALL OF OUR SCHOLARS AND THEIR NEEDS. I HAVE A SCHOLAR WHO IS UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN PE. NURSE TARANGO WOULD FOLLOW UP WITH ME IF SHE DIDN'T SEE HIM IN THE NURSE'S OFFICE DURING PE. HER COMPASSION AND EMPATHY MAKE HER STAND OUT.
