Jamie Trzebiatowski was nominated by an anonymous colleague.
Ms. Trzebiatowski is a life saver just as much as she is a LifeChanger. During the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, she was a rock of safety and diligence, not only for her school, but her whole community. While her main goal was to keep everyone healthy and safe from the virus, she was also diligent about keeping her school open for students to learn in person. She worked to meet both physical and mental health needs for staff and students. Thanks to her expertise, the Waupaca Learning Center (with over 600 students in grades K-4) was able to stay open, help students learn, and manage any spread of the virus.
From the beginning of her time in the School District of Waupaca, Ms. Trzebiatowski has been a leader in student support and health. She has taken charge of the healthcare system in her school, supporting her team in other buildings, managing and training support staff to help students, and providing medical care to students with health needs, from tube feeding to medications. With each of these areas, she maintains excellent records, collaborates with local physicians, and adheres to the strictest confidentiality. She builds strong relationships with students and their families, and she holds their trust in high regard.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Ms. Trzebiatowski became Nurse 2.0! She readily stepped in on her Spring Break to volunteer her time leading a team planning for this pandemic. She provided solid medical advice to help her district establish protocols to promote health, safety, and learning all at the same time. Ms. Trzebiatowski secured proper PPE and supplies so her district's schools could continue teaching students. She established a safe place for sick students to go to while waiting for their parents to pick them up. Communication and documentation were designed to help all families understand what was expected and happening. The leadership team, consisting of administrators and directors, looked to her for guidance to ensure students would be safe and healthy.
Ms. Trzebiatowski is also a mother of three younger children. She balances her time with her family at home and her family at school. Often, the school family wins her time, but her own children love that their mom is passionate about keeping people safe, and they strive to be like her. She is an unbeatable role model for them.
"We are lucky to share those children in our school family so we can, in turn, help her with some of that balance," said her colleague. "Part of the reason she supports her family along with our students is because she places such a high value on the family structures. She helps families make that same connection!"
"As we continue to navigate our way through the many changes needed to survive this pandemic, Jamie continues to push us forward and keep us moving in the direction of success for all students. She is a warrior," said her colleague. "She takes on the challenges thrust upon us with determination and passion. Our safety and public health is the hill on which she stands. Giving up or conceding is not part of her character...I truly cannot think of someone more deserving of the title of LifeChanger. Jamie is not only a LifeChanger; she is a life saver!"
Jamie is a great LifeChanger and a great nominee for this award. When I think of Jamie I think of a health care professional, who takes great care of not only the students in our district, but also the adults. As a personal experience, when my heart afib acted up she checked on me a few times during each day until I had the bout resolved.
She is very thorough with the students and their physical needs. The staff under her, I believe, take many of their cues from her as they are all a lot like Jamie. Thank you, Jamie for being all the things people who have already commented on. We are so lucky to have someone here like you.
Jamie is so deserving of this award. She does an amazing job of promoting health and safety protocols throughout our whole district (which is quite large). She is dedicated, puts in long hours, & continually does research to stay updated & on top of changes & safety protocols. She coordinates several different schools and maintains and manages the utmost professional nursing practice for the good of our staff, students, families, etc. She goes above & beyond in her quick & smart decision making skills which are made day in and day out. Her compassion, optimism and kindness does not go unnoticed ~ you are my hero!!!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Jamie is very driven to develop and accomplish the best plans for staff and students. She wants to do what is right and is highly cautious and concerned for the welfare of others. She does go above and beyond and places a tremendous amount of pressure on herself to gain knowledge,make good decisions,lead in her field, and not show the stress. There is no doubt she is dealing with a lot of conflict and unpleasant exchanges during COVID. She is humorous as much as she can be while being busy every second of the day. She has a lot of responsibility to take care of seizures, blood disorders,diabetes, feeding tubes, wheelchairs, and every accident and sickness affecting staff and children. COVID has added a lot to those responsibilities. Jamie is deserving of being recognized. She is also still parenting three young children. Jamie worked harder than anyone since COVID began and she works to keep everyone alive and well which is the position of a life saver.
Jamie goes above and beyond every day to make sure our school and district are safe. She researches tirelessly to make sure she is making the best informed decisions. When I have had questions or concerns with my own child's health, Jamie was the one I went to. I knew she would come with answers on how she would approach the situation both as a parent and a nurse. She looks out for the best interest in our students, staff, and community as a whole. Jamie truly is a Life Changer and life saver!
Jamie is an exceptional nurse and asset to our school district! She is hard working, positive, and compassionate. Her ability to infuse humor and keep building morale high while managing all of her daily work demands is nothing short of amazing! She is informative and helpful and always makes time to address student and staff needs. Thank you Jamie for your dedication and hard work. You are greatly appreciated!
I'm not sure there is much more I can say. All of the previous comments speak so loudly regarding Jamie's character. She is one of the most wonderful, dedicated, kind, hard-working, and passionate people I know. She goes above and beyond for her students, their families, and her coworkers. Every day I have the honor of not only working with her, but learning from her as well. She has helped to change my life, and I have witnessed her passion to help change the lives of everyone around her to the best of her ability. If anyone deserves to be honored as a Life Changer over this past year and all of its challenges - it is most definitely Jamie.
What does it mean to be a school nurse?
It means you put forth 200% of your effort into making the lives of students, staff, and parents feel accounted for, loved, cared for, and important. Because not only is Jamie here to make sure everyone is healthy and safe, but she is a big part of why our students are able to get the best education possible during this crazy time during IN-PERSON LEARNING! Protocols, Procedures, Guidelines, She's got it all! Jamie is a one of a kind person who puts everyone else before herself. Thank You Jamie for your service to the Waupaca School District!
Jamie is amazing. She is always there for our staff in so many countless ways. Jamie gives of her time both in and out of school and even on the weekends if needed. She truly has been instrumental in keeping our school safely open during the pandemic and played a huge role in getting our school community vaccinated. And even in the most stressful moments Jamie takes the time to listen and offer encouragement. We are a better school and community because of Jamie. Nurse Jamie is consistently a fighter for what is best for her kids. I have had the opportunity to witness her dedication to the health and safety of her kids on countless occasions. This includes supporting me when my own child (a student of hers in the district) was going through the diagnosis of a chronic disease. It was a comfort to have her on my side of the "ring" when looking for services to support him.

Professional, caring, hard working, dedicated. These are words I think of when I think of Jamie. She puts the needs of families and students first. I have worked closely with her to support my students' medical needs. Jamie always made me feel comfortable and well trained to work with these students. Jamie has an energy and a smile that is contagious and even with all the work and long hours she puts in, she still has a smile for you. She has worked with families, medical and school professionals to help us navigate Covid. She faced it head on and took on the tough challenges that came with it. Thank you for keeping us safe.

Jamie is compassionate and caring. She has been amazing with our family. When you have a child with a rare medical condition, it’s a challenge. She had made sure he is well taken care of.
