Rosemarie Borquez was nominated by her colleague, Aubrey Chambers.
A great principal is one who is relied on by teachers and parents, adored by students, and appreciated by staff. Ms. Borquez is all of these things and more. When some students had difficulties getting to school on time, Ms. Borquez met with them one-on-one and asked why they were late. She didn't have any judgement, only a desire to help these struggling students. When she found out their parents went to work early and there wasn't anyone to wake them up, she held an alarm clock drive so the students could be self-sufficient and still arrive on time.
Ms. Borquez made sure students knew how to work the clocks before taking them home, and as a result, she has noticed less tardiness at her school. When students are struggling academically, she encourages teachers to meet with parents to find solutions that will help them. She makes home visits to check on students who are having behavior issues and tries to work with students and parents to find ways to give students every opportunity to succeed. Ms. Borquez participates in community events, holds parent nights, offers parenting classes, and encourages parents to be an example to their children by taking English classes offered on campus.
"Rosemarie changes lives of parents, students and staff by being kind, considerate, hard-working, patient, a good listener, and a friend," Chambers said.
Rosemarie Borquez has been a phenomenal person and very down to earth and practical since the time I met her. I am sure she has touched many lives and her influence will continue to pay dividends on those she comes across.

Even before becoming Principle at Sierra Vista, Rosemarie was well known throughout the community of Arvin through the Migrant Program as the Migrant Coordinator; reaching out to the Arvin Community Family’s needs. She was well known and respected by the community. Every event as head of the Migrant Program, was thoroughly throughout to increase parent and student involvement, knowledge, and participation. The same philosophy has continue as her role as SV School principle. Borquez is 100% committed to parents, students, staff, and the community. As a school principle, Rosemarie has transformed the school environment. She takes it upon herself to assure her students are always safe, ready to learn and that her staff feels cared for and supported. Her words “We got this!” not only encourage her staff but shows a commitment towards her school and staff. She is always there to support staff, students and families. Miss. Borquez is committed, positive, encourages, is authentic, and shows her love towards her job. Most importantly, she embodies all those qualities in her students and staff. With this said, Miss. Rosemarie Borquez would be a worthy recipient as the Life Changer of the Year Award.

I truly believe out of all the years I have been here with my son, who is now a 6th grader, Miss Borquez has been the best motivational Principal I have seen. It is an honor to have her as my children's principal, she goes above an beyond for all her students. She also motives all her staff, which is amazing, and the progress has been noticed. I will truly miss her as a principal for my children, for this is my last year here. I know she will continue with greatness for this school and if I have future children I truly hope she is still here at Sierra Vista doing amazing things for this school.

Rosemarie is such a beautiful person inside and out . She’s one of the many teachers I have seen so dedicated to her job . She is pure , sweet and loving . She treats her kids with respect and love . Rosie has to be one of my role models even though I didn’t have her as a teacher , I still know she’s has a pure soul , she’s honest , and very dependable. She use to treat me and my siblings like we were really her siblings . We’ve never felt so comfortable or loved until we met her around people we barley knew until we met her and her family . My family and I are very appreciative of what her family has done for ours . Many reason on why she is so selfless , and humble is because he mother is too . Mrs. Rosemarie Borquez is the hardest worker in the whole school, and she’s very passionate about ensuring that all of our students succeed. She does not hesitate to make home visits, pick up students who can’t find transportation to school, or simply have conversations with students who need a little encouragement. She finds a way to make every student, staff member, and parent on campus feel welcome and safe as she promotes a family centered approach at our school. She goes above and beyond to make sure that anything her staff needs is promptly attended to. She nonjudgmentally meets every staff member wherever they are in their teaching journey and inspires them to improve in their craft with nothing but positivity and encouragement. Because of her hard work, dedication, authenticity, and how she makes us feel like family, Ms. Borquez is the kind of person that makes us willingly work hard at trying to be better teachers. My opinion is that Ms Borquez should be given the opportunity as principal. since she is working with the community and looks at the needs of each household, it may not be possible to achieve the goal by a hundred but she can look at the good results in these days, not many children arriving late to class. Getting involved with parents is very important because if the need in the community is better seen. She is a hard worker, the most important is she have pasión for the kids.

As the saying goes, "it came from the horses mouth"...I have had the pleasure of being Ms Borquez's secretary for the past 2.5 yrs and she is absolutely amazing. Ms Borquez dedicates approx 80% of her life to our school and has made a humungous impact here at SV. Ms Borquez is positive and determined to conquer any obstacle necessary and with that comes hard work and dedication!! She greets everyone with a smile and makes herself visible and available to all. Ms Borquez is enthusiastic about everything and anything we do here at SV and is very giving. Ms Borquez is open to ideas, change, and positive criticism. We at Sierra Vista who have been around for a while have lived through the good, the bad, and the evil when it comes to admin. By some stroke of luck or maybe a god saw we needed an angel Rose came to us. She has not only done amazing things for our students and their families (that started years ago when she was our migrant coordinator) she has brought a unity to our campus that can only form under a natural born leader.

Being an administrator is no small feat. I am a teacher and I have never met somebody as dedicated, enthusiastic, energetic, and positive as Miss Borquez in all my years of teaching. She is a person that always views the glass half full and more. If there is a problem, she comes up with a solution right away. If we are in need of resources, she is able to provide for us the best she can. She is driven by the students of our school, despite the challenges that are presented, and she shows compassion for them. She is constantly celebrating their successes whether it's academics or positive behaviors. It is obvious that she genuinely cares for them and wants the best for them.
She also goes above and beyond to make sure that everybody has a part in helping our students achieve success. Everybody meaning parents, school board members, and teachers, as well as community members. From Coffee with the Principal with parents to monthly cuddle huddles with the staff, she makes everybody feel that they play an important part. She brings out the best in our students and the staff.
Even though she is our leader, she doesn't always lead from the front or the top, but more from the sidelines, cheering us on like a cheerleader! I will end this with an inspirational quote from Ronald Reagan. I truly feel that this reflects Miss Borquez.

I have known Rose for 10 years. We started together as first grade teachers. She was awesome as a teacher! She was full of creative and new ideas of how to motivate her students. They always loved her! As we both moved through the district, the next time we were able to work together was when she was promoted to the head of the migrant program. She took a good program and made it spectacular. She truly inspired the students. She always planned wonderful trips for the students and was even able to take them to Washington DC! Not many California students in elementary school have traveled that far!
We have been lucky enough to have her as our principal for 3 years and the difference in the school is like night and day. Before she started to lead, our morale was very low, the students were performing mostly below grade level, and coming to work was difficult. Now that she is our principal, morale is high, students have started to performing much better and coming to school can be fun. She has made everybody's life brighter. Her enthusiasm is contagious. Even when she is asking for more and more hard work, you can feel that she knows you can do it and has confidence in you, which helps you feel like you can give that little bit more she is asking for. Rosemarie deserves this award not just because she has changed the school and is a good person, she deserves this award because of the countless lives that she has touched and changed forever, just by being herself, working hard and having a huge heart that cares.

I remember Rose as starting out as a First grade teacher,, but she got a pink slip because of lay-offs and she was low-woman on the seniority list. But that didn't stop Rose. She quickly became the director of our After-school program and now she is a principal!She alays works late and is here early. She cars about the students lives as a whole, not just their academics! She cares for the staff, She is always bringing us donuts and Starbucks coffee. She really has changed our school for the better! She deserves this award!

As a new teacher in a district, it can be intimidating when your principal comes in to observe your class, even when you feel prepared for an evaluation. From the first time Rosemarie came into my classroom, she put me at ease and was wholly positive and encouraging. Whenever she interacts with teachers, staff, students, or parents, her positive attitude and kindness are on display. She has made me feel not only welcomed here at our school, but has become a friend and valued asset in my life. Her genuine desire to be a leader and not just a boss is evident when she rolls up her sleeves and jumps right in to work with the staff. She is the first one to volunteer for activities that require time, effort, and hard work. We recently held a haunted house fundraiser and she was the first person to show up to help and the last person to finish cleaning up. She inspires me to be the best teacher I can be every day.

She is also a great supporter of all the staff who work here, and shows what a true leader should encompass by always sharing the latest ideas and strategies she has encountered. Rosemarie Borquez is a true life changer with her positive attitude and willingness to go beyond her job requirements to make our school feel like a family.
Ms. Borquez is student- centered, treats our staff like family, and has an abundance of love. She takes the time to get to know our students and their families. The students and families have so much respect for her because of this. With the greatest of sentiment I would like to follow that nomination of Rosemarie Borquez. Rosemarie has gracefully led our school site as principal for three years. Not one single student can pass her without Rosemarie cheerfully greeting them, and making them feel welcomed and an important member of our school. Rosemarie also stands as our students biggest advocate. Always approaching any student challenges with fairness, an open mind, and with a passion to re-direct our students on the better path. All students know her door is always open when they have a concern or issue of any sort. Time and time again Rosemarie refers to our students as "her babies" and will always hold their best interest in mind. She is well known in the community for the countless home visits, to the point where on one occasion we didn't have a school card on hand and I was worried that we had no way of letting the parent know we stopped by. Jokingly Rosemarie stated not to worry, the neighbors in the area would recognize her truck and keep us or the family posted. Sure enough after our departure she received a phone call within fifteen minutes regarding the home visit.
Ms. Borquez has been an instrumental element in the school culture climate as she has always promoted our staff members strengths, and has definitely led by example in her dedication and commitment to our staff and students. Besides the countless amount of time she gives after hours working on planning and implementation of successful school programs, Rose is supportive and a compassionate leader. Our school site has made a dramatic transformation over the last few years as a result of her leadership. Our school is on a climb and journey of growth in academics and student success, and much in part of Rosemarie's mission to see all her students be college and career bound for a life of success.
Ms. Borquez is the hardest, most kind, and hard-working person that I know. She goes above and beyond for her students, parents and staff. She truly cares about her students and her school team. She is always very positive no matter how hard the situation can be. She always has the best ideas and sets goals and acts upon them until she reaches those goals. The parents know her very well and know that they come speak to her about any issue their student is going through. Ms. Borquez has participated in the walking school bus with parents and students walking with them to school early in the morning to teach students the importance of being in school every day and on time. She picks up students from their who missed the bus. She always acknowledges every single person who walks by her and says good morning with a smile. She is at work early in the morning until late at night. She always reminds her staff that they are a team and always praises them for their hard work. She is loved and appreciated by the students, the community and staff.
