Karen Body was nominated by her district's executive director of special services, Scott McCall.
Over the past several years, Ms. Body has been a leader within the health services department. She is someone who others look to for advice and direction routinely. She is extremely knowledgeable, hardworking, and dedicated to improving health services for the staff and students in Putnam City Schools. Ms. Body also works to improve the overall wellness of the community by leading the district wellness committee and organizing the first annual District Health Fair. She's seen as an expert within Putnam City, and she collaborates with and leads a Metro Area group of school nurses, as well.
"During this past school year specifically, Karen has been an incredible resource to the District as we navigated the impact and response to COVID-19," said McCall. "Karen was essential to our efforts as a district and was always available to discuss current situations and identify solutions and positive outcomes. She ensures the district is aware of current policies and procedures from the Health Department and CDC."
Throughout this school year, Ms. Body has been proactive in things such as set-aside well clinics vs. isolation rooms, testing/vaccine opportunities for staff, and establishing partnerships with organizations such as Total Wellness and Passport Health. She routinely consults with the local epidemiologist and provides information and feedback to school nurses and District Administration when needed.
"Karen goes above and beyond in so many ways, and she truly has a heart for public schools and the health and wellness of our community," said McCall.
