Denise Isom was nominated by an anonymous family member.

Ms. Isom goes above and beyond helping students with their needs. During the pandemic, she did contract tracing and made sure students and staff were safe. She helped save lives, and she has worked overtime during the pandemic on call as needed. She was nominated as the 2021 Site Support Staff of the Year and received recognition from School Site Council and the Governing Board. Ms. Isom has received certifications from School Health, Youth Mental Health First Aide, and QPR Suicide Prevention, to name a few.

Her coworkers said the following:

“Denise stepped up as the COVID rep for Mica and the only health aid. She puts in countless hours on and off the clock making sure the students and staff are following protocol and being safe. She has gone above and beyond,” - Monica, colleague.

“Denise works so hard to make sure all COVID-19 protocols are followed. Everyone looks to Denise to know what to do, and she is a superstar! From the moment she walks in the door until the moment she leaves, she is on it. Not to mention, all the endless work she does at home! She cares so much about keeping students and staff safe,” -Monique, colleague.

“Denise has been amazing this year in keeping students and staff safe. She is proactive, hard-working, professional, and has done incredible work with COVID protocols,” - anonymous colleague

Denise is phenomenal! She goes above, and beyond daily. She is patient, and kind to all of our students. She has held strong through our last two years as our only health aide, and has been reliable and wonderful!

Denise is not only a great health aide , but a great team player. She goes above and beyond for many things not related to her job. I've many opportunities to observe her interactions with students, who she treats with utmost respect. She's great at all she does and is definitely deserving of this recognition.

Denise is an amazing school Health Aid who does go above in beyond to assist our staff and students. She has been a great asset to the Special Services Department helping with our students with their medical needs. Over the past few years during the COVID 19 pandemic, she has been great for our staff and students. Her knowledge of the processes and policies that were put in place did not go unnoticed. She is/was always available via text or phone call and always responds in a timely manner. She is more than deserving of this award!

As a teacher of special needs, I have seen first-hand Denise's sensitivity, professionalism and dedication to our high needs students. She communicates well with the students and staff to make sure they are understood and are taken care of with speed and awareness. She also communicates often with parents involving medication(s) and a variety of serious conditions that many of our students have. It is a difficult job but Denise handles it well with poise, calm and dedication. I appreciate all she is doing and will continue to do for our very, very special students.

I got the opportunity to shadow Mrs.Isom for my senior exit project. She was the best part of my day for the full two weeks. I loved getting to know her and the interest she holds in her job. She is a very compassionate and caring person. I wish I grow up to be like her.
