Lisa Solomon was nominated by her colleague, Robert Anguiano.
As an educator for over 20 years, Ms. Solomon has continued to demonstrate true altruism at all levels. Whether it be assisting fellow colleagues, teachers, students and/or families, she is readily available. Within the Santa Ana Unified District, Ms. Solomon serves as principal of a large TK- 6th grade campus, working with students in high poverty with many basic needs. Ms. Solomon has accepted all challenges presented to her in a positive and nurturing manner.
In addition to her school site responsibilities as principal, Ms. Solomon also coordinates the Operation School Bell Program, where thousands of students receive free uniforms and toiletries. She coordinated the Annual SAUSD Caring Educators Nurturing All (CENA) dinner that provides families in need with food and gifts during the holiday season. Ms. Solomon also serves as a district and community representative on the City of Santa Ana's COMLINK Committee, which brings all neighborhood associations together to discuss relevant issues on a monthly basis.
For all of her efforts, Ms. Solomon has received the Orange County Department of Education's Outstanding Contributor to Education Award in 2014, as well as being selected to represent California in the National Elementary School Principal Recognition Program in Washington D.C.in 2015.
"Although she works behind the scenes and does not seek recognition, it is evident that she is a unique individual who wakes up each and every morning and asks herself, 'What can I do to help someone today'," Anguiano said. "If we had more people like Lisa, the world would be a much better place."
