Aimee Gable was nominated by her district's Chief of Schools, LaWanna Shelton.

Nurse Gable is the epitome of what a school/district nurse aspires to be. From day one, after starting in the middle of the pandemic year, she took charge of an extremely challenging situation.

"Our population is nearly 100% African American. Our students and families are among the poorest community in Southwest Michigan," said Shelton. "Building trust and making decisions with students' welfare at the forefront defines Nurse Gable. She takes time to examine every aspect of student health and care."

Recently, Nurse Gable assisted with de-escalating a student altercation. In the process, she experienced some minor injuries, however, her concern was not for herself, but for the students. She understood that suspension was going to be one of the consequences, but she wanted to know what other interventions would be put into place for these students to learn conflict resolution.

As the District's only nurse, she has proven to be a strong leader. She is self-motivated and self-directed. Because of her leadership, the district, as a whole, has been able to attend to student behavior and academics. Her decisions are on point, and her willingness to collaborate is commendable.

Nurse Gable performs above and beyond the expectations of her district. She conducts herself in the utmost professional manner and represents her district in a positive light. Nurse Gable is a member of various organizations and sits on various committees. She brings back and implements new strategies that help the district improve protocols and processes.

Nurse Gable exhibits the highest standards in terms of moral and ethical behaviors. She has assisted her colleagues in understanding the importance of controlling information-sharing to safeguard against HIPPA violations. She has installed processes and provided training to her district's frontline workers to better understand privacy and confidentiality. Overall, she has been a leader for her district in these roles.

"Nurse Gable has been a positive force in providing support to students, staff, and families," said Shelton. "Her position here at the district has made all of the difference, especially through the challenges of the pandemic. We cannot imagine anyone more worthy of recognition."
