Melanie Rueda was nominated by Rebecca Summerlot, the parent of a student.

"Melanie is an excellent example of having a positive and helpful attitude," said Summerlot. "My son is adopted from another country and has challenges with caregivers and especially the transition to in-person school. Nurse Melanie has developed a friendship with my 5-year-old son that has been incredibly helpful in this transition. She has told me she recognizes his cry in the hallway and has come to his aid. She helped my family when we contracted COVID-19 and explained all the procedures for quarantine and return. As a family, we're incredibly grateful for her professional, helpful attitude and great kindness and love for students. She goes above and beyond."

Our school is blessed to have Nurse Melanie helping our students and guiding us during a pandemic. She has so much Information for parents and staff. She goes above and beyond her call of duty. Oftentimes calling parents during the weekends and evenings to make sure our students are doing well. She is always ready to help and does it with a smile. As a parent of two children that attend O’Shea Keleher, Nurse Melanie has helped both of my kids and they adore her! I can’t thank her enough for all that she does for our school, with my kids, and for being so helpful with the students in my classroom. I am so fortunate to not only work with Melanie but to have her as a friend!

I agree with Ms. Kaiser, it does not end! Melanie goes above and beyond for her students and her co-workers. You can always count on her during a challenging time for guidance. She is a beautiful soul, inside and out. Our community is blessed to have her.

Melanie was my husband’s oncology nurse. I can only image the love and care she puts into her new role as a school nurse. She was made for this position

As a school employee, I can attest to the truth in Ms. Summerlot’s words. Nurse Melanie goes above and beyond not only for our students, but for our staff and the community at large as well. As if that weren’t enough Nurse Melanie doesn’t just go above and beyond at work; she provides that same level of care at home to her beautiful, incredibly busy family of 7. Where does her above and beyond end? I don’t think we will ever see it. I’m so very blessed to call her my colleague and friend.
