Position: School Nurse
School: Comstock Park Public Schools
School District: Comstock Park Public Schools
City, State: Comstock Park, MI
Heather Norman was nominated by her superintendent, David Washburn.
Ms. Norman has served in her district for the past three years and has gone above and beyond to provide amazing care to students, educate staff, and navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic. She has built many positive relationships with students, who refer to her as "Nurse Heather." There are a few students she sees daily to help with care during the school day due to medical conditions. In addition, she has spent time after school hours attending sporting events and other activities, which these students participate in.
Ms. Norman takes time to talk with parents when issues arise, or to help them understand COVID-19 issues that are challenging or difficult to understand. She follows up with families in a timely fashion to ensure they're doing OK after an injury or medical event.
Ms. Norman has put processes and procedures in place to support the Health Department mandates. These processes are easy to understand as the district navigates COVID. Documentation and adhering to policies are one of her major strengths.
"Heather is an employee of Spectrum Health, but we consider her one of our own," said Washburn. "She is a kind, loving, fun, organized, caring, and hard-working person. Heather has served as our LifeChanger, and we are so very lucky to have her in our district!"
