LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Marcus Spencer was nominated by an anonymous parent of a student.

"This man used to teach math at Terronez Middle School. He taught one of my children, and when he found out my other child was struggling, he tutored them, as well," said the nominator. "He left middle school to teach high school business, but he still tutors many students in math. Aside from this, he runs the Black Student Union, a Champion Club (teaching students how to be their own boss), and the A-4 Program (African-American Academic Acceleration). He also coaches varsity football and serves as the head freshman boys' basketball coach."

Mr. Spencer has started a program where his high schoolers are crossing guards for an elementary school nearby. His goal is to not only bridge the gap between young and old, but to make the community a better place. He always says, "You are your own business."

"I think Mr. Spencer is amazing, and I look up to him" said the nominator. "He makes me a better parent."
