Camryn Tomes' nominator would like to remain anonymous.
Ms. Tomes joined the GES team with excitement and determination to love the students and faculty/staff. Each day, she comes in with a smile and is ready to jump in wherever is needed. She serves her campus five days a week, dealing with students from all sorts of backgrounds with a smile and a big hug. Every student is important in her eyes, whether they need G-tubes, diabetic pumps, vision and hearing checks, or a band-aid for a scraped knee. She lends every student a comforting ear.
"Nurse Tomes works diligently to build relationships with our families by actively communicating with them throughout the day. She has played a major role in helping our parents feel more at ease knowing their student has access to her as needed," said the nominator.
Camryn is compassionate and giving! She cares for the students of GES as if they are her own!
Camryn would truly give someone the shirt off her back. Since she was a small child she always worried about the welfare of others in particular children.She has a God given gift to help the lives of disabled and terminal children, as she worked on the PICU at Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Her work also called her to be a nurse in a daycare with challenge children. After accepting the position at Gautier Elementary, she jumped right in by seeking out a size 13 pair of shoes for a child. Before the days end, that child felt very special in her new shoes. She is kind, compassionate with a huge heart and love for what’s she’s doing. I couldn’t upload a song to describe Camryn but if I could it would be “DO SOMETHING” by Matthew West
Although Camryn is my daughter, I truly believe she is one of the most kind and caring people you could ever know. From her early childhood she has always been a compassionate individual. Throughout high school and college she has participated in civic organizations dedicated to helping others. Camryn has a “larger than life” personality and children adore her. You cannot find someone more well rounded than Camryn when it comes to children and their parents.
Nurse Camryn Tomes has worked diligently and compassionately on the PICU Women’s and Children for years as well as for a daycare that specializes in Disabled and Challenge. When she decided to take the nursing challenge at Gautier Elementary because she could make a huge difference in the lives of some of the underprivileged. I have heard and received so many compliments on the great job she I’d doing and the lives she’s touching with these student, as she called them “her little chickens” The first week she was there an unfortunate child needed a size 13 shoe because she had none. Camryn utilized her resources and by the end of day, the little girl had shoes. Camryn has always had a heavy and compassionate heart. She will do what ever it takes to take care of her

THe song “DO SOMETHING” BY MATTHEW WEST is an amazing song that I truly believe was written with Camryn in mind. She is always for the underdog and will always stand up and do the right things for the right causes.
As a parent, I turn to Camryn for advice all the time knowing I can trust her judgement and that she will care for my child like her own! She is truly a gift to not only her school but to anyone who knows her.
Nurse Tomes has a passion for children and you can see it by the way she deals with the children. She comes in with a smile on her face ready to tackle whatever the day throws at her. GES is thankguk to have such a caring nurse that loves our children!

We Love you Cam and could not be more proud of you. I knew the kiddos at your school would love you too. Congratulations on being named a Life Changer but we already knew that about you! You are loving & caring and all the things everyone has said about you but you are also so funny and animated and entertaining in a way that puts kids at ease and makes them feel safe. That is a gift all into itself!
I worked with Camryn for many years in the PICU at Children’s and Women’s hospital! I have seen her take care of patients and their families in the worst moments of their lives with such grace and so much love. She has the biggest heart of anyone I know!! Just ask anyone who knows her she can cry at the drop of a hat ?? There is no one more deserving of this award! Her students are so blessed to have her and I’m blessed to call her a friend!

Camryn was a former colleague of mine in the pediatric intensive care unit. If there is one word to describe Camryn it would be caring. She genuinely cares for the well-being of her patients. She has a way of bringing a sense of comfort to her patients and their families. GES is lucky to have her as a part of their team!

So impressed with how Mrs. Tomes has seamlessly stepped into her new role as a school nurse. Her love of children is evident by the care and attention she shows each student she sees. Extremely knowledgeable in her field, Nurse Tomes is able to remedy any ailment that comes her way. What lucky kids to have access to such an amazing nurse!
I became friends with Camryn during nursing school. I’ve watched her evolve into the nurse she is today. Camryn would do anything for her kids and she works so hard to be there for them. I’ve learned so much from Camryn as a nurse and a friend. She inspires me to be better every day. Her kindness is infectious and she uses it so evidently with every action she makes. Camryn has made such an impact on my life and I can not think of anyone more deserving of this award.
