Jennifer Madrid was nominated by her colleague, Rosie Rodriguez.
Ms. Madrid embodies the meaning of a true school counselor. The goal of a school counselor is to advocate for students and provide them with support for career readiness and social/emotional needs. Ms. Madrid is an advocate for all students, even when it is not the easiest task. It is necessary for her to have difficult conversations with parents and administrators in an effort to help students.
Ms. Madrid is constantly attending trainings and counselor conferences to stay up-to-date with information to help her students. After being inspired at the American School Counselor Association conference (ASCA) in 2015, she spearheaded a Social Emotional Learning plan that has been presented to district principals and counselors. She has also presented at LSSSCA 2017 and been invited to present at ASCA 2017 on her amazing SEL plan.
Ms. Madrid was part of a district ethical committee which provided support to all 100+ counselors in the district. She has also been asked to take part in a Suicide Task Force to help educate and provide support to students. She collaborates with SPED counselors, diagnosticians, teachers, parents and colleagues to ensure that students are receiving the support they need.

Jennifer is an amazing mentor to everyone she comes into contact with. Her students are lucky to have her as she is full of knowledge and passion for her profession. Her collegues and district are blessed to have her as she is always there to give a helping hand, an ear to hear or advice when solicited. We are all blessed to know her.

Mrs. Jennifer Madrid has always had a gift to talk to others and have people present the best of themselves. I had the pleasure of having Mrs. Madrid as a grade school teacher for about a year and a half. The passion and compassion she has for her students is incomparable. I have witnessed her go over and beyond what is normally expected from a teacher. The impact that she's had on my life as a child is still showing its fruits in my adult life. There is no doubt in my mind that my favorite and most memorable teacher, is now the best counselor and deserves to be recognized for all the great things she's done. Jennifer Madrid is an amazing example of what a Lifechanger Award recipient should be!! She initiates and spearheads critical causes and programs for our borderland students.. Mrs. Madrid is always eager to share information and collaborate with her counseling colleagues on the important issues at hand. Her selfless act of kidney donation is nothing short of heroic in my book!!! Her open arms to a foreign exchange student for a year is yet another example of what an ALL AROUND Lifechanger she is! I’m an El Paso native married to a military spouse, and have taught in several states. I’ve encountered countless school counselors, but none as exceptional and selfless as Mrs. Madrid. She has a passion for serving every scholar who crosses her path. Not only is she compassionate towards children, but she assisted me with love and encouragement while I coped with raising a broken stepson. I am forever grateful for the words of affirmation she poured into my heart as well as those of every person she has encountered. She is the epitome of service, kindness and love.

I’m a school principal in the Socorro ISD in El Paso, Texas. I had the pleasure of attending reading PD at Region 19 when I was a 2nd grade teacher. Ms. Madrid presented that PD and I utilized it as a new teacher to help my students succeed! Years later Ms. Madrid joined SISD and I was excited to have her join our team as school counselor, always going the extra 100 miles to help students, parents and staff. Ms. Madrid has made it her goal to help all students succeed and has done it with heart ?? and grace!
