Jessica Sampolinski was nominated by her colleague, Megan Hartley.

Nurse Jessica has been working non-stop for the past year and a half to help keep all the students in her district safe. She monitors all the latest data and research on COVID-19 to keep her school's policies up-to-date with the latest science and health guidelines. She advises the school board and staff members on best practices, both as a whole and in individual cases. Nurse Jessica takes care of the students during the day for everything from playground scrapes to suspected COVID-19 symptoms. She reaches out to families to see how sick kids are doing and to offer guidance.

Rio Elementary shares Nurse Jessica with another school district, so she's not able to be in the building every day. Even so, she is always available for a consult.

"These times have been a real struggle. As a teacher, it's a daunting task to try and keep all of my students healthy and safe and to know if I'm doing enough or doing the right things," said Hartley. "Nurse Jessica has done an amazing job by creating clear rules and flowcharts, explaining everything in a clear and concise manner, and being available to answer questions at any time. She has really been the guiding force for our schools being able to stay open this past year. She has made the staff feel supported and cared for. Nurse Jessica has helped keep our students safe and happy. We couldn't have made it through without her!"

Jessica has been a great addition to our school staff. Her dedication and great work ethic to keep our students and staff safe and healthy often goes unnoticed during these times of COVID-19. I respect her professional advice and always take it into consideration when making decisions in my position as the athletic director. After working with Nurse Jessica this past school year and seeing all the excellent qualities she brings to our small rural school district, we are fortunate to have her on staff!

Nurse Jessica has put her heart and soul into her position. She puts her skills first. Jessica will miss family gatherings to help out. I don’t remember a time when she has ignored the countless phone calls she gets Day, night, during a birthday party for her kids, holiday calls, anytime. Her passion for the Rio Schools is so amazing. It isn’t always easy but she keeps on going. She has done a great job keeping the kids and staff safe and up to date during Covid-19. Nurse Jessica and Rio Schools deserve this recognition for all they have done to keep the Rio children safe.
