Freba Watts was nominated by her friend, Wanda Heath.
Ms. Watts has been in the same school and district for 24 years. Words cannot describe her love, dedication, and devotion to her career. She started in the classroom as an elementary teacher for 10 years. After receiving a Bachelors’ degree in Early Childhood Education, Ms. Watts came out of the classroom and became an Early Intervention Program teacher. Then, she became an instructional coach to help both the exceptional kids and teachers who aid EIP children.
She has continued to educate herself and stay up-to-date so she can further educate the children and teachers in her school. Ms. Watts has obtained her Master's degree in Elementary Education, Leadership Add-on, and a Specialist Certification in Curriculum and Instruction. Additionally, she has also obtained a Reading Specialist Certification, Coaching Endorsement, and K-5 Math Endorsement. She is also a local LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) Facilitator. This past summer, when she should have been resting and recharging for the next year, she took courses in both Reading and Math. She utilized all of her past training to help support all the instructional programs for her elementary school.
Ms. Watts is not only a teacher, but the Lead Mentor of the BETA Club program, Department Chairperson, and Building Mentor. In addition to her own expenses, she’s spending some of her income for students' needs and, occasionally, the luxury of making a child feel special. Then, when she’s finished for the week at school, she goes to her church and teaches children aged 4-9 in her Sunday School class.
"Ms. Watts truly has a passion for teaching, and she doesn’t do the things that she does for pay or recognition. She truly does them out of love and compassion," said Heath.

This wonderful, kind-hearted, sensitive woman cares...REALLY CARES about her family, students, community and friends. She is dedicated to serving within her church and community and goes the extra mile to make things better for those around her. She is a mentor and a role model with a sweet spirit. Ms. Watts, I am so proud of you I have been at Haynie going on my 4th school year and they way that you continue to encourage not only the students but myself as well shows that you are so deserving of this life changer award. Each morning I look forward to you walking down the hall to greet each and everyone on the kindergarten hall and when you do not see me you always make a point to stick your head in the door and say" I just want to put my eyes on you" you just don't know how much that means to me. Ms. Watts is the epitome of what an educational leader should be. Everything that she does is for the improvement, growth, and development of our students. She is dedicated to education and Haynie Elementary School. She goes above and beyond for students to ensure that they receive a quality education and support daily. Her students know that she cares about their personal and academic growth and they look forward to their lessons with her.
Although she wears many hats within the school, many of which she does behind the scenes, she handles her duties and responsibilities with grace and without complaints. I look forward to seeing her smiling face every morning. She rarely, if ever, misses a day of work and there is no doubt that she absolutely loves her job. She serves as the EIP Grade Level Chair, 'Hear Our Voices' Representative, Lead Mentor, LETRS representative, Spelling Bee Coordinator, and many other unofficial leadership roles. She is just as gracious with the adults in the building as she is with the students. She is genuinely patient, understanding, courteous, and kind to all whom she encounters.

Ms. Watts is so deserving of this award. Since I have met her she has always been very helpful. She is passionate about her job not only serving students, but her collogues as well. I can not think of anyone else more deserving of this award!
I have only known Ms. Watts a short time, but she has certainly impressed me. Ms. Watts is a dedicated, caring educator, always ready to help anyone, student or staff, who needs her knowledge and expertise. Freba Has lived her life doing the right thing. She has always expressed her willingness to help others. As a small child, she loved to share her toys with others. As a teenager, she served as secretary of the Sunday School. As an adult, she truly loves working with her elementary students. When she calls me each day she recites good times she has spent with her students, At that point all I have to do is hold the phone. Freba is a blessing to everyone she meets. The Bible says “God’s spirit makes us loving, happy, faithful, patient, kind, good, gentle, and self controlled.” Freba has truly lived her life this way. Freba’s contagious enthusiasm and creativity for teaching makes her a great teacher. I am biased but I know Freba is a great teacher and a wonderful precious daughter. To my daughter I want to say Congratulations Freba on this wonderful recognition. You truly deserve it!!! Love you always- Your Dad- Benjamin Watts!!!
Dedication. Strong Work Ethic. Attention to detail. Kind. Warm. Willing to Help. This is the Freba Watts I have known for approximately 15 years. In her work life, I have known her to be a most depended upon employee to complete additional tasks that support the development and growth of elementary students. As a partner in our professional development classes, I know her to be most knowledgeable, logical and willing to learn and share. As a sister friend who I have called upon her from time to time, she is always responsive and giving of herself. There has never been a time where I have seen her that she did not inquire about my son who she worked with in elementary school. She gets so much joy knowing her former students are still thriving! Freba is an amazing individual. Freba is my niece and always take the time to call and check on her favorite uncle in Las Vegas. I had major back surgery and Freba always call to see how I'm doing and if I'm following the Dr instructions. Freba keeps me up to date on what's happening in her life. I'm so proud of her in all that's she's accomplished. I especially like that she make sure her dad Ben is eating healthy and his health needs are addressed. Freba also supports her community by volunteering whenever she can with food drives and church activities. Freba always end our conversation with love you uncle. Call me if you need anything.
