Kim Cammack was nominated by her superintendent, Joel Wilson.
Last year, Ms. Cammack led an unforgettable IEP meeting in her district. A single mother and her first grade daughter were the focus of this meeting. The mother was in tears as her daughter colored and hummed to herself. The mother said that when she was pregnant, her doctor urged her not to go through with the delivery. He told her that her daughter would not be viable. When the daughter started working with Ms. Cammack and her team as a pre-schooler, she was nonverbal and could not walk.
"The mother, in tears, told us how their walls now have framed papers of the words her daughter is now writing," said Wilson. "Her daughter now walks on and off the bus, as well as to and from classes, without any assistance. Her vocabulary is growing each day. This mother looked at Kim and said, 'You have saved our lives.'"
Another student with severe disabilities moved to Butte County School District with his family. They were very apprehensive to move to a small, rural district from their large metropolitan district, one of the largest in the country. His mother, however, couldn't be happier with the services and support Ms. Cammack has been able to provide her son.
"Despite the lack of financial support and resources of the much larger district, this mother told me that Kim is providing a much more meaningful and appropriate education to her son," said Wilson. "The support Kim has given this student and his family was far superior to the family's former district. The mother said she could not be happier to have moved to our community because of Kim."
Ms. Cammack is driven by meeting the needs of all students. When her district needed a certificated preschool teacher. she volunteered to become certificated. When her district needed an alternative school program for middle school students, she developed an alternate schedule/placement program housed in her classroom. Middle school students who were on the verge of dropping out flourished in her program. Some earned achievement recognitions by school administrators at their school's end of the year awards assembly. A credit recovery summer school was needed. Ms. Cammack volunteered to be the administrator and worked with her staff to provide another needed program.
Parents know they have an ally in Ms. Cammack. The support she offers parents cannot be overstated. Parents and students know they have a safe place with Ms. Cammack in the district. She trains her colleagues and shares the wealth of her knowledge to collectively make the staff better. She has an electric personality that has earned her the nickname "Honey Badger."
"Kim will not give up on students and will not let them give up on her. If ever there was someone who has earned the title of LifeChanger, it's her," said Wilson.
You deserve this so much mom! You are so amazing at what you do!
I worked with Kim for many years in the Kuna School District and know first hand that the Butte district is lucky to have her. The love and effort she gives her kids is phenomenal.
I worked with Kim for about three years in a different school district and I don’t think I knew anyone that loved her students more or who was more devoted to them than Kim. She is an amazing teacher and advocate and deserves this recognition!
I have students in my class who work with Kim daily. She is the reason these kids come to school. She is their safe place when they are having an off day or need additional support. We have witnessed the progression of a student who would not come out from under the desk to now being fully integrated in my general science class. Life changer is an understatement!
Kim is a hard worker. And makes a difference in the kids lives.
I am a first time teacher and I only work with Kim for a little over an hour everyday but I have learned so much from her already. The way she is with the kids just amazes me. She is patient, loving and just what those kids need.
Three years ago we moved into the Butts County School District with our son, Liam, who has a very rare genetic disorder. We worried about his care moving into such a small district that we knew would have limited resources and were coming out of big-city districts who seldom knew how to help him. He entered Kim’s care. Within 2 months he was potty trained, something we had been told was not possible. She made sure he was integrated as much as possible with peers. She pushes him and loves him, believes he can do anything, all the while helping me and my husband to remember that it’s ok to be worn out. She is a believer who works to make all things possible!
Kim is very deserving of this award. Her dedication to her students is evident whenever you see her with her students. She is compassionate and encouraging. It is no wonder she gets results!
Kim does an excellent job providing support to students and parents. She advocates for the students in our district, and she helps all students feel good about themselves. Thanks for all you do!
Kim really cares about her students. She goes above and beyond to meet their needs. Thank you for everything you do for our school Kim.
Kim has done and does so much for our schools. She is a Rockstar. She helps each student and helps them to see school as a positive influence. She brightens the day with her willing smile and contagious laugh. She also isn't afraid to step in and get work done. Thank you Kim!
As a general education kindergarten teacher, Kim had offered me so much knowledge and support in ensuring all my students succeed.
Kim is such an asset to our small school district. She truly cares about her students and their success. We are fortunate to have her. Thank for all you do Kim!
Kim has changed my life! Sometimes in life we go along thinking we are settled and happy with our progress, which is where I was. Then I met Kim, and she challenged me and believed in me. 25 years after my first college degree, I was enrolled in school, working on my own special education degree. Watching the impact Kim has on adults and students alike is inspiring. I am blessed to have had Kim as a mentor and hope to continue to learn from her for a few more years while I work towards understanding how and what needs to be done to help students succeed! Kim believes in EVERY student and has taught me a great deal about the kind of teacher I hope to become.
Kim worked in the Kuna school district for many years. She was the Extended Resource Teacher at Reed Elementary when I become the principal. Kim was not just a special education teacher, she was a compassionate servant to our students and a passionate advocate for them. She not only knew the individual strengths and needs of our students but was also well connected and aware of family needs and circumstances. Parents knew and trusted Kim because she knew them and was an advocate for them as well as their children. She was creative and determined in finding ways to meet needs of students and families. I have great respect and appreciation for Kim's example and the way she changed the lives of our students in positive ways.
Kim has done so much for so many students my own son is a prime example. We struggled to figure out why He was having such a hard time being successful in school, and Kim was able to get the proper testing done to discover what his weaknesses are, she cares so much about the students, and this causes them to care she believes in them, and it causes them to be able to begin to believe in themselves! I firmly believe This!!!
Kim has Made arrangements to work with my child even, After school hours, To tutor and help my son with his work, especially during Those Times when my child has struggled to complete assignments, Kim has helped my Step daughter become More comfortable with her transition to move here to live with her father. My daughter told me just the other day what a wonderful friend Kim was. Kim is such an encouragement and inspiration to both of my children , she is 100% for All of the children! Her hard work and dedication means the world to me! I’m so grateful for all the things she’s done in our community with our kiddos!
Kim works so hard And she makes everyone feel like they matter, have value and importance.
I don’t know how she gets it all done! I just know that kids love her and they thrive! Keep up the great work Kim nobody deserves this award more than you! The hours you put in to help these kiddos are huge!
Kim rocks! I have known Kim for years as a former student and later as a special ed teacher in my building and in my district. Kim is all about kids and being a huge support and advocate for those students who have challenges. She's been at this a long time and has always give it (them) her all. She understands disabilities, she understand "kids", and she understands how to integrate it all bu supporting the classroom teacher. Kim, our district is lucky to have you; our kids are luck to have you. Thank you!
Kim goes above and beyond to help anyone who needs a little boost. Thanks for all the work you do Kim.
Thanks for all you do Kim!
I have nothing but good to say about Ms Kim. She is a teacher that goes above and beyond for her students. I know because she's been my son's guiding light for years. My son has special needs and struggles everyday with simply going to school, she has given him reason to not just attend school but to raise his grades and work just a little harder. She thinks outside the box and though she's firm she's very positive and encouraging. Kim I hope you win, I cannot think of a more suitable person for this award (though you have close competition with our other teachers/ staff). You are a beautiful person inside and out and our children are so lucky to have you!
I've only been with the district now for a little over a year but it was evident from the start that Kim was someone to reckon with. She is smart, loyal and diligent and truly cares about the students and community. Great job Kim!
Ms. Cammack is a truly extraordinary lady! She's so kind, helpful, and understanding. And a realist. Bless her!
Kim is the most fierce advocate for students I have met in my career! She does in a day what most do in a week and I have seen the positive life changing impact she has had on every student, not just those assigned to her case load. Her love for students, staff and the community is evident in all that she does and though she often doesn't know or see it herself, she is a guiding light for our school! You rock Kim!
Way to go mama! You are a extreme life changer! You bless everyone who meets you. You make a difference every day and I’m so proud of you!!
