LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Diana Johns was nominated by two colleagues. The following profile contains text from each nomination.

Mrs. Johns is an exceptional teacher, mentor, student advocate, and friend. She goes above and beyond her role as an educator and provides guidance, leadership, and support to all around her. 

Mrs. Johns works endlessly for and with her students. She is the first to school and the last to leave. She gets her AP Environmental Science students out into the field to clean up, study, and beautify the environment. Some examples of the work her students do include maintaining the school's weather monitoring system, landscaping the courtyards, and working with Friends of the Rouge River. She teaches responsibility outside the classroom through projects like recycling the school's plastic and paper.

"Diana is the most compassionate teacher I have ever met, putting the needs of everyone else before herself," said an anonymous colleague. "She has truly changed my life and pushed me to do things out of my comfort zone, which led to numerous personal victories.  Ask anyone who has ever known her and I am sure they have many wonderful things to say about her."
