Music that Describes Jane
Jane Miller received multiple nominations from her colleagues.
Ms. Miller's contributions to the Loveland City schools have been exemplary. She goes above and beyond her job title each and every day. Ms. Miller is the assistant principal, but with her background in special education, she can be found being hands-on in any of the many resource rooms. She is always available to physically help or sit down and collaborate with a teacher. She is known as the "person to go to" if there is a behavioral concern with a child or a new idea to try with a withdrawn child.
Ms. Miller has continually shown concern for students who are facing difficult situations, those who are in unique circumstances, or those who are struggling to make progress. She works closely with families and staff to ensure that each student is being provided the services they need to achieve their potential and find greater academic success. She looks at the well being of each child and sees each student as a whole, often dealing with aspects other than their academic performance, such as their emotional, mental, or physical health.
"I can think of many specific situations in which Jane's efforts have not only opened doors for students that would have otherwise been closed, but have also provided opportunities that will positively impact students and change the trajectories of their lives," said Sarah Cousino, a colleague.
Ms. Miller has worked with and advocated for students who struggle with learning or physical disabilities, communication disorders, mental/emotional health issues, being economically disadvantaged, or behavioral difficulties. She communicates closely with their parents and families to ensure their level of comfort in the collaborative education of these students.
Ms. Miller faces difficult situations with students, staff, and families on a daily basis. She handles each situation with individual care, sensitivity, and compassion, while working with the whole team to find a creative way to effectively problem solve. Her efforts, passion, and leadership extend far beyond the words within her job description as "assistant principal." Despite being bombarded with the demands of these situations, Ms. Miller continually has a smile on her face and handles each situation with grace and admirable optimism.
Ms. Miller is always available to answer a question, even late in the evening. She even shows concern for each teacher's personal life, and she remembers each joy or concern you may have confided in her. She is always willing to pitch in and do more than her part. Ms. Miller puts extra time and effort into any job she tackles.
"I believe Jane deserves this reward because she goes beyond her role both professionally and personally with her students and staff," said Mary Frees, a colleague.
