David Ross was nominated by his colleague, Amanda J. Usey.
"I don’t know much about Mr. Ross’s class; his subject is not my area, and his classroom is on the other side of the school from mine. That just shows how far Mr. Ross's spirit can reach," said Usey. "Everyone in the school knows his class is a special one. All of his students, past and present, absolutely adore him. The number of success stories he produces from an at-risk school is staggering. It’s very clear to everyone that Mr. Ross’s class is a step above excellent, and he deeply cares about his students."
"Outside of his classroom, he is one of the kindest people I have ever met," said Usey. "Mr. Ross is usually quiet, but never shy about offering a helping hand when someone needs it. He will often go above and beyond for his coworkers and students alike. This year, with so much uncertainty and stress, Mr. Ross was often seen reaching out to make sure people were doing alright. Sometimes, he'd volunteer to do something to lighten their load or contribute to a project. Other times, he'd just listen and offer an ear to someone who desperately needed one. It is impossible to walk away from Mr. Ross without a smile. His calming and encouraging demeanor is infectious and uplifting. He is a real treasure who will be greatly missed, and his absence will be felt for years to come."
