Akayla Anderson was nominated by her assistant superintendent, Y'londa Kellum.

Ms. Anderson is a true Alcott Achiever! She was born and raised in the city of Pontiac, MI. Ms. Anderson has been a part of the Alcott family for two years. Ms. Anderson burst onto the Pontiac School District scene full of energy and enthusiasm. She quickly volunteered for large and small tasks, making herself known as a committed worker and an advocate for the well-being of children.

Ms. Anderson initially began her teaching career as a second grade teacher and has captivated the attention of Alcott students since her first day of teaching. She has become a teacher leader and one of her school's most tech-savvy millennials. Ms. Anderson makes herself available to support staff with virtual instructional strategies, and she often leads professional learning opportunities for her building. She is wholly invested in the advancement of today’s youth. She spends the summer months working at Wayne State University helping teenagers in preparation for college.

Ms. Anderson creates an engaging classroom that is warm and welcoming. Every student and parent in her classroom is equally treated as the top priority for success. Ms. Anderson’s classroom activities include engaging role play, math competitions, mock elections, non-traditional experiments, and student-led instruction.

Ms. Anderson is an active member of the school community. She serves on the BTN, the Social Committee, Technology Committee, and the Intervention Team. She's also the lead contact for MiStar. With all of her innovative and creative ideas, Ms. Anderson keeps Alcott buzzing with her ingenious disposition.
