Lois Stoll was nominated by her colleague, Sally Stolly.

Just like the American businesswoman Mary Kay Ash, Mrs. Stoll strives to be first on the list! For the past 26 years, Mrs. Stoll has been making things happen at Benjamin Logan High School. Every day, she inspires those around her to go above and beyond for their students. Each and every day, she makes a significant difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence, and leadership, not only at Benjamin Logan High School, but across the district and the community. Mrs. Stoll’s last day due to her retirement is May 27, 2021.

Thanks to Mrs. Stoll's leadership, every junior at Benjamin Logan High School takes a one-semester personal finance course before graduating from high school. Mrs. Stoll believes that we must equip the next generation with the financial decision-making skills they need to thrive in the future. She has a passion for financial education and a commitment to deepening her content knowledge. She also demonstrates creative ways to bring engaging, up-to-date resources to her students. Mrs. Stoll noticeably demonstrates a proven ability to make a beneficial difference in the lives of BLHS students.

Mrs. Stoll serves as an FCCLA Adviser. She creates a positive school atmosphere by connecting with students as they cultivate skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation. Mrs. Stoll’s confident leadership is an integral part of students’ success within FCCLA. Students rely on her mentorship and guidance in navigating the daily challenges of high school and beyond.

For the past 15 years, Mrs. Stoll has volunteered as the co-chair for her district's Relay for Life chapter. Her passion for volunteering has not only unleashed creativity across the school district, but encouraged staff and students to continually find new and different ways to support Relay for Life and help fund this cancer-fighting work. Her volunteerism doesn’t stop at school. The United Way of Logan County, the Logan County Cattle Association and Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church are among the organizations that reap the benefits of her positive attitude and spirit of volunteerism.

Mrs. Stoll has served as a Building Leadership Team member and District Leadership Team member for many years, which validates her commitment to providing solid leadership within the school and district. She monitors data, analyzes strengths and obstacles, establishes goals, selects instructional strategies, and determines results indicators for individual students. In short, her dedication to collaborative, structured, scheduled meetings that focus on the effectiveness of teaching and learning enhances her ability to make a positive impact on her school’s culture.

Mrs. Stoll utilizes a blended-learning personal finance curriculum to engage and empower students to make smart financial choices. Through the use of a Personal Finance Simulation, Mrs. Stoll implements decision-theory learning to teach students the basic principles of financial literacy in a safe and nurturing learning environment. Her commitment to fostering a nurturing atmosphere, as opposed to having students simply study financial concepts, affords students the opportunity to actually experience financial decision making. They are able to make decisions on how to spend their money in an ongoing role-playing simulation that has real in-class consequences. The model creates an environment where students’ choices dictate the learning experience. Lessons are continually reinforced as each decision a student makes impacts the remainder of the course. By letting choices dictate learning outcomes, a differentiated experience is created naturally. Students master content and learn more about themselves and their personal approach to financial matters.

Through adherence to high moral and ethical standards, Mrs. Stoll strives to help each student realize their potential as a worthy and effective member of society. She works to stimulate the spirit of inquiry, the acquisition of knowledge and understanding, and the thoughtful formulation of worthy goals.

Mrs. Stoll helps students learn to analyze their situation, needs, and goals while dealing with real consequences for their choices. As a result, students learn how to make smart financial decisions throughout their lives.

In addition, Mrs. Stoll exerts every effort to raise professional standards for all educators. She continually promotes a climate that encourages the application of professional judgment to achieve conditions that attract persons worthy of trust to careers in the field of education.

You are an amazing person Mrs. Stoll! I will never forget taking career readiness with you my junior year. Since then I have been amazing with budgeting my money and have been paying my bills now for a year. I could have never done that if I didn’t have a great mentor to help me get there. I have known Lois Stoll through the Logan Piecemakers Quilt Club of Logan County and her chosen career as an educator happens in all facets of her life. Fortunately for our club and her students of Benjamin Logan, Lois was able to find ways to connect existing groups to work together for community service - especially through the Veterans recognition breakfast. I am sure she will continue as an educator even after her formal retirement.

Lois Stoll has truly been a lifechanger in our community for many, many years. Through my community involvement, I have been fortunate to have observed the positive impact Lois has made. As a CPA, I value her commitment to the personal finance class she developed and continues to teach. In this class students gain critical insight that helps set them up for success no matter what their career path becomes. These students won’t make the poor financial choices that so many others in our community do. I have been involved in our local Rotary Club’s Excellence in Teaching Award committee for many years and can attest that Lois was a very deserving recipient of the award. She is one the best of the best teachers in our community as the award reflects. Lois’s leadership of her school district’s Relay For Life fundraising efforts has resulted in the district raising an amazing amount of money each year to fight cancer. Fortunately Lois jumped in at the very beginning to help co-chair the effort. She supported a student-led approach and that has been a key element in the district’s fundraising successes. For these reasons and many others, I feel Lois is deserving of this recognition.

I recently learned of Mrs. Stoll's personal finance course during her presentation at my service organization, and I was incredibly impressed with the thought that went into the curriculum and the scope of information taught to her students. As a financial advisor, I have always been on a soapbox about the importance of teaching our kids personal finance concepts--budgeting, saving, debt management, investing, etc.--and Mrs. Stoll is actually doing it! We cannot rely on parents/families alone to impart financial responsibility to the next generation, and it is this type of education that will help decrease the income inequality gap in our society and give kids a leg up as they start their adult lives. I never had a course like this offered to me, and I did not make the best financial decisions in early adulthood. After starting a career in finance, I only then learned what no one had taught me. Mrs. Stoll has dedicated her life to making sure her students are armed with the knowledge I did not have, and I applaud her storied career. She is a huge advocate for her students and has undoubtedly changed many of their lives in a positive way!

Mrs. Stoll took me in and mentored me as a teacher even before I was teaching. She helped me learn the ins and outs while showing me how rewarding teaching can be. As I began preparing to become a full time teacher, she guided me through the process and provided invaluable advice to help me on my way. Throughout my life and career there have been only a handful of people who helped change my direction and led me to where I am today. Including my parents, I can count those people on one hand. Mrs. Stoll is one of those people. It’s no stretch to say that I would not be a CTE teacher today if it weren’t for her guidance and mentorship. Her example and work ethic have helped shape me as a teacher. She has pushed me to be a better teacher and a better person. She will be greatly missed when she retires.

As the former principal of Benjamin Logan High School, I was blessed to work with so many outstanding educators. I take great pride in recommending Lois Stoll, Family Consumer Science Instructor, to be considered for the "Lifechanger of the Year" award. I had the opportunity to work with Mrs. Stoll over the past twenty years in the capacity of administrator. During that time, I was continually impressed with her driving commitment to excellence. She is uncompromising in her quest for quality educational opportunities for all of her students. Mrs. Stoll consistently displayed qualities of initiative, conscientiousness, and professionalism. She continuously sought avenues to provide her students with opportunities to explore the many facets which family consumer science has to offer. This was demonstrated by the numerous grants received by Mrs. Stoll which resulted in obtaining resources that gave students the needed tools to explore, create, and succeed. Three areas in which Mrs. Stoll was instrumental to the Benjamin Logan School district over the past twenty years through her leadership and vision include; the creation of a comprehensive health & wellness program, community service initiative, and producing a model financial literacy program that is recognized at the state level. Each of these areas have remained a focus for her and their level of success is overwhelming. While overseeing the health & wellness program, the district has been recognized at the state level and presented with multiple gold rating awards for new initiatives. The major community service project is dedicated to research of cancer through a “Mini Relay for Life” which Mrs. Stoll serves as chairperson. Her passion for this cause has resulted in 95% of student & staff participation within the high school alone. This service learning project has presented checks for $25,000 or more to the American Cancer Society on a consistent yearly basis. Needless to say, a project of this magnitude requires much commitment, organization, and dedication which Mrs. Stoll has provided. Benjamin Logan High School has also been very fortunate to have multiple state FCCLA officers under the supervision of Mrs. Stoll. While being elected a state officer may be an individual accomplishment and honor, it is also a direct reflection of the program in which they are involved. Mrs. Stoll recognizes the opportunities for students whom obtain a state officer position. Through these experiences, students develop leadership qualities which connect them with further opportunities after graduation. Mrs. Stoll is recognized by her colleagues within the FCCLA program as an innovative leader who tirelessly strives to enhance the organization. Her passion and commitment is recognized through serving on the FCCLA Board of Directors as well as serving as a state officer advisor and a member of the FCCLA Board of Endowment. Also to her credit, Mrs. Stoll has successfully served as a mentor to new FCS teachers within her district. In my 33 year tenure, I can say without hesitation that Lois Stoll is one of the best individuals that I had the honor of working with. Her ability to inspire and provide students with the necessary skills for success beyond high school is to be commended. To say that Lois Stoll has left her mark on the field of education, is truly an understatement ... "Leaders Make it Happen" and this defines Lois Stoll ! Thank you Lois for being such a vital influence on the lives of your students and colleagues ... I am blessed to have had the opportunity to work side-by-side with you and to call you my friend !

Mrs.Stoll has been my greatest supporter in my high school career. She is one of the most caring teachers while also being one to push you to do your best. She made major positive impact in my high school career and my life. It will be hard to see her go and have someone else in her classroom. I don't know how we'll run without her.
