Mr. Cooksey was born and raised in Vicksburg, MS. He's the father of three boys and the grandfather of a little princess named June, his late wife's namesake.
Mr. Cooksey exemplified what it meant to be a positive behavior specialist. He always had a kind word or gesture, and he always made positive comments about the students.
Mr. Cooksey lost his wife to cancer in 2018. Although he was sad and distraught, he still said encouraging words and uplifted his students and colleagues. Words cannot describe how he puts others before himself.
"I have known Mr. Cooksey for about 10 years, and I have never seen him mad or say negative things," said Thompson. "He deserves this award for his ability to put others before himself."
