Position: Retiring Teacher Consultant
School: Fort Gratiot Middle School
School District: Port Huron Area School District
City, State: Fort Gratiot, MI
Elizabeth Vos was nominated by her principal, Alycia Shagena.
Mrs. Vos works with special education students and teachers to establish plans to help them experience success. She is also responsible for the special education reporting requirements and testing.
In working with special education teachers, Mrs. Vos models how to work with special education students to achieve their goals. She offers recommendations based on classroom experience and education. Her knowledge of special education resources and strategies is second to none.
"As a middle school principal, having a teacher-consultant that fully understands the special education requirements is extremely important," said Shagena. "Mrs. Vos is a detail-oriented perfectionist, and she never misses a deadline. When our building went virtual due to COVID-19 and we had to update all of our IEP's, Mrs. Vos worked with the teachers and families to get it done. She worked with families to ensure they got the support they needed while virtual. Mrs. Vos never hesitates or looks to someone else to perform a task; she has it done before I even ask."
"Mrs. Vos is retiring this year. We will miss her skill, her knowledge, and her kindness at FGMS," said Shagena.
