Amy Marquez was nominated by Nora Galvan.

Mrs. Marquez is an outstanding 21st Century teacher-librarian. She incentivizes students to learn using various methods.

"Frankly, I do not know where she finds the time to read about the latest trends and strategize all of the events that she promotes," Galvan said.

Mrs. Marquez is a mother of four beautiful children ranging from ages 1-14, yet she still finds time to search for new ideas and apply for grants. She helps the library department write grants and has been a recipient of grants from the Laura Bush Foundation, Donors Choose, and the PSJA Education Foundation.

Mrs. Marquez takes her job to an even higher level as she teaches parents how to crochet and learn other skills. She teaches them how to create items that may help them earn some income. The parents she teaches live in one of the most impoverished areas of the district.

Mrs. Marquez was featured on the district website demonstrating students' research projects because she uses innovative iPad Apps and other technology items, including Augment Reality and Chatterpix. She uses these apps to bring history to life, and her students' projects were displayed at the Regional Service Center. Mrs. Marquez also uses coding to demonstrate the use of small robots such as: Dot and Dash, Osmos, Virtual Goggles, and other great technology items, to help students.

Mrs. Marquez has been a presenter for the Region One ESC Conference, the 2016 Dream, Inspire, Engage Conference, UTechMDC Makerspaces in the Library, and Library Media Fair 2015. Additionally, at the 2016 Texas Association of School Library Administrators workshop, she presented "Book a Trip...Gateway to the World," and has presented at many other venues as well.

Mrs. Marquez has been featured on the cover of the Texas Library Journal's fall issue, "Frontline Library Super Heroes," and has also been featured on the Power of Librarians 2018 Calendar for the month of November. She is an Intel Master of Technology Teacher, Renaissance National Honor Roll Master Librarian, and finalist of the South Texas Literacy Coalition's Literary Excellence Award for School Librarians. She was awarded a writing workshop that was presented by author Dr. Carmen Tafolla, the Texas Poet Laureate.

The students in Mrs. Marquez's school have all the odds against them: low socio-economic background, English language learners, recent immigrants, no college graduates in their families. HOWEVER in spite of all those obstacles, the students are so successful. They are top readers, innovative, and motivated. With many programs that she uses, those students are using technology and science in their weekly lessons. They create the unimaginable. Many students have been impacted by this AMAZING librarian. Best of wishes.

I have known Amy since her first years as a librarian, before her work as the Opening Day librarian at Marcia Garza Elementary. She has always demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm and true joy as a librarian-teacher. She is a very busy mom and wife, and a most exceptional professional leader in her role as a librarian. Amy's work incorporates cutting-edge concepts into her library which represent the 21st century in development. She understands the need for traditional basics in combination with STEM/STEAM educational times. I have always admired her dedication to her work, which obviously reflects love. Amy is ever curious and ready to try new approaches for her students. She is also a true leader in sharing her discoveries with other librarians and teachers. Yes, Amy Marquez is a life-changing librarian and educator!
