Music that Describes Lauren
Lauren Schoellhorn was nominated by an anonymous colleague.
Ms. Schoellhorn, or, Shelly, as her students affectionately call her, is the epitome of a LifeChanger. She is a person who goes above and beyond to make sure her students are safe, taken care of, and in the best possible position to be able to effectively learn.
"During the pandemic, she has gone 'on-site,' to a cemetery that she is a guide at to provide knowledge of architecture and history for her AP Art History class," said her nominator. "I was lucky enough to secure the Zoom link and was mesmerized by her knowledge and the ways in which she kept her students actively engaged throughout the lesson."
Shelly has given her time freely to write curriculum for school districts during the pandemic, including her own. She uses every available resource to provide for her students. She has been nominated for Teacher of the Year multiple times and has won the Rose Award, the highest award given to educational professionals in the Rockwood School District. In addition to being a phenomenal teacher, she is a coach who has had several girls sign letters of intent to study and play at the collegiate level. She serves as a mentor to other teachers, both in her department and throughout the district. She is a shining star in a profession that is packed full of wonderful people.
"Lauren continues to teach and learn on a daily basis, and she puts our kids at the forefront of that mission. She is truly a LifeChanger," said her nominator.
