LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Leighanne Mainguy was nominated by the Nevada School Counselor Association.

Ms. Mainguy is Nevada's School Counselor of the Year for 2021. She has the amazing gift of being able to calm students, staff, and parents when they are upset about something. Current and former students seek her out just to say hi or ask for help. Besides her upbeat personality, Ms. Mainguy creates a positive atmosphere at her school through her involvement with many school committees designed to improve student success, including MTSS, PBIS, RTI, Restorative Justice, and 21st Century Tutoring, just to name a few.

Ms. Mainguy spearheaded the implementation of the Sanford Harmony social-emotional learning program at her school. She serves on the Mentorship Cadre for her school district, where she mentors and assists new elementary school counselors to her district. During the school closure, Ms. Mainguy and her co-counselor made home visits and helped families with technology issues, anxiety, grief, clothing, food, and toys for the holidays. She has a huge heart and is the first to volunteer for any service or activity that will benefit students.
